Favorite place to come on the island for a drink. Can’t beat the great views and unique atmosphere. This review is for when I stopped in for a quick drink before heading home. Sunday is 4 $ mojitos which were average but good flavor. We sat in the love seats by the fire which are good if you want to snuggle up with your hunny when it’s chilly. They offer a small menu for appetizer type food. I do know this place gets pretty busy during the summertime so snagging a seat can be hard at times.

Decent little touristy type bar. Stopped here to grab a quick bite and a few drinks. There’s nice elevated view of the beach. Cheap frozen mojito was OK, but I went back to my standard(Tito’s rocks) after the first one. I still rate this place as inexpensive for a bar because I think my vodka was only $ 8. Food is typical bar food, but the wings for happy hour are a deal. Service was good, nothing to complain about.

I love this place!!! I’ve been several times and I always have a good time here. It’s on the second floor, great views of the beach, and cute décor that gives you an island feel. They have a menu with all the different rums that they offer, their speciality drinks, and food items. The mango mojitos are the best! They also have a rum punch that definitely feels like a «punch». I had someone else finish it for me. Average prices, probably could be a dollar or so less but it doesn’t take away from wanting to return.

Cute bar right beside the beach on top of several other bars within the building, it’s a small place that has the Caribbean feel and serving awesome Mojitos, we were able to grab a seat facing the beach, they have a lot of cocktails and told they were famous for their Mojitos which isn’t s lie, the mango mojito was so refreshing and just about right with the alcohol content… perfect day for a hot Labor Day weekend, the Mai tai was good as well, chicken nachos were huge but sadly there wasn’t enough salsa and to get extra it was $ 1, I will definitely come back to this place especially on Sunday when they have $ 4 Frozen Mojitos

Walked in to get a quick drink. The place was dead on a Saturday which in its self can be a good thing as far as quick service. They did have a full staff as you can view in pictures. Well I was wrong. Full staff and no one greeted us on arrival so we just ventured to one of the many empty seats available. We sat for a while watching the servers talk amongst themselves knowing we were here. So I thought maybe it was self serve so I walked up to the bar and one of the servers hastily walked up to me keeping me from talking to the bar tender. I was surprised and mentioned I thought it was self serv since none of them came to assist us. She just stated(ok… How can I help you) No apology nothing and continued to stare me down. I now see why this place is empty. Time 12:15 pm

The Best thing about this place is the view! There were some cozy chairs which looked inviting for those who just wanted to lay around and sip drinks. We visited yesterday with a group of 5. The place was pretty busy so we had to stand around for a while to keep an eye out for a table to open up. Our server was friendly and I was told by those who had mixed drinks that they were good, however they serve a limited menu(appetizers only) and the food was horrible and overpriced. We ordered the beef tacos which were cold, oysters which were very tiny, and chips and queso/salsa which were average. I might return in the future if I plan on drinking only. I would look elsewhere for a good meal.

This was one of my favorite bars to just chill in Galveston! It is on the second floor of The Spot complex. It is open air, has a thatch roof, and has big, comfy chairs to lounge on. There is always a breeze rolling through as the sounds of reggae music fill the air. My fiancé and I actually came back here a second time during our visit to Galveston because we liked it so much. So why only 4 stars? Well, the drinks aren’t cheap! That’s the only room for improvement.

This place has the best mojitos! Raspberry and passion fruit are my favorite. The atmosphere is awesome and the view is beautiful. This is one of my favorite bars in Galveston. The appetizers are good, but the oysters aren’t in season. But at least frickles are Never out of season!

This was a fun place to hang out! The menu has some fun frozen and mixed drinks. The décor is cool– big chairs to share and sit in. Fun things hanging from the ceiling. Jamaican music playing. The atmosphere is chill and the drinks are good… a win :)

The drinks here are good but vary by bartender. I would still recommend it as a great place to look at the ocean and have drinks though.

We always stop here when in Glaveston! Fantastic cocktails! All rum based and a nice selection of food you can order from the bar! The shrimp cocktail is great and big enough to share! They have live music on the weekends! It does get pretty windy since its on the second floor, but great view of the water and a fun atmosphere!

Great patio bar, lovely service, delicious drinks & food. No real vegetarian options, but I made it work. Nice breeze up there & lots of fans to make the stifling temps tolerable. Appreciated that kids were not allowed. It’s 21& over only.

This place is just FUN! This was my 2nd time in Galveston and we had to make sure we came back to «The Spot» to hit these 2 bars on top! Rum shack is more of a tiki/shack, laid back and relax vibe! Great breeze flowin through the place, very open, wonderful views for its at the very top of this place and its right by the beach! The staff was very friendly, helpful and fun to chat with. I had been waiting all week for their bacon wrapped shrimp and unfortunately this time around it wasn’t very tasty! The 1st time, WOW my taste buds went insane, hence the reason I was pumped for them, but it might have just been an off day?! Sad… but it happens. Other than that a really cool spot to check out if you are down in the area!

Looking for beach side Friday night with live music and some alcohol? Rum Shack is the answer. Let me not forget the decent indoor and outdoor. The chill of the winter is not a problem because of little fire pots around the tables. I highly recommend the flavored frozen mojitos. It’s definitely fun when the whole group sips the drink from one big bowl! My only complaint would that the service could be a little better.

This place used to be so great! I always come here after a day at the beach! It has a great vibe and the interior is very Hawaiian like. Nice fire and good drinks! The service isn’t all that great this last time we came. The first table we sat at no one even greeted us! So we decided to take it upon ourselves and ordered at the bar. About 30 min later is when someone actually acknowledged us. That really bothered me. The food is good, kind of greasy. Maybe it’s time to find some place new.

I would like to say I know… but I don’t. They denied us entry because we had two teenagers(our kids) with us. So not sure if this was a special event or if it’s always 21 and up.

We love rum! Ever since a trip to Mexico, I find myself ordering rum everywhere. This place offers a great selection of rums from basic Bacardi to several 12 – 15 year aged rums all at very affordable prices. Relaxed atmosphere and the cool breeze coming off the ocean. We’ll be back!

Great outdoor bar with friendly service. The drinks are pretty big and they pack a punch! Plenty of bartenders so you don’t wait long for drinks and the price is reasonable. Will definitely be back next time I come to galveston.

Oh my goodness. This is the perfect place for your Sunday Funday — get ready for some strong drinks! 12 ounce frozen mojitos are a mere $ 4 here on Sundays, so you can sample flavors to your heart’s content. I had a mango mojito, and it was tasty, but proved to be too strong for me. Obviously, Rum Shack is known for rum. They have all the crowd pleasers, as well as more obscure rum I’ve never even heard of. The food here is subpar, so if you aren’t drinking, you’re kind of SOL. You can still enjoy the salty sea breeze and scenic ocean views though.

When your urinals are shaped like giant succulent red lips of succulence, then you know that you’re winning in life.(Sorry, no pictures available.) The Rum Shack tries to be a nightclub, a tourist destination, and a local dive bar — and actually succeeds more often than it doesn’t. With a fantastic assortment of rums to choose from, as well as great cocktails and even better frozen mojitos, along with an attentive waitstaff and bartenders who don’t skimp on the alcohol, the Rum Shack is one of those bustling places that makes you want to get there early, and then stay for an extra drink. First of all, the frozen mojitos are fantastic. If you’re there to sample, then move in order of sweetness. So start with the classic frozen mojito, move on to the passion fruit, and then finish off with the mango. A 12oz costs the same as a 20oz by volume, so there is an incentive to order more of the 12oz concoctions. However, the star of the show might be the rum punch, which packs in enough fruit juices to hide that shot of Bacardi 151 mixed in with the Bacardi Rock Coconut and Myers. The one negative I would say is that there is an inefficient system for food delivery, which can be both slow and haphazard, in contrast to the excellence alcohol delivery system in place. You wouldn’t think that asking for chips and salsa would be an ordeal, but it sure turned into one. The frozen mojitos on the other hand came instantly, and so the spotty food service is really not enough to detract from the overall very positive experience. In the end, with a great beachfront view, great prices, and a great drink selection, the Rum Shack is an extremely welcome addition to the paucity of scenic hangout places for a mundane Houston population hungry for scenery. It’s a wonder Galveston took so long for it to pop up!
