Steak was ok. Service below average. Drinks were good But place felt more like low standard steak house not first class.

I’ve been lucky enough to eat at some great places but The Steakhouse at San Luis is absolutely without peer. While I agree that the place is too dark, that’s really an atmospheric choice and many people prefer it. I’m not going to count off because of a thing like that. I do think they’re wasting a chance to have views of the Gulf or at least the gorgeous pool area but, again, no points off. The food could not be better. I’ve eaten here several times and the steaks have never been less than absolutely perfect. The sides are ordered a la carte and are plenty for two to four people. The seafood is also excellent but the steaks are definitely the focus. One side I do want to point out and recommend everyone should try is the Lobster and Lump Crab Risotto. I’ve eaten at a lot of restaurants where they use the word«decadent» in the description but never found a dish which really fit that description until this one. It is made perfectly, full of lump crab and lobster, and so rich as to be impossible to adequately describe. It is a «must order» on the menu and is an experience. I have never had anything here which is less than great, from appetizer to dessert. The prices… well, it is expensive. A dinner with sides, wine, dessert, drinks, etc. is going to set you back $ 100 a person by the time you add in tip and everything else but it truly is worth it.

My boyfriend took me out to dinner here for my 21st birthday and it was delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked, not a single problem. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because 1) it was really dark in there 2) the menu didn’t provide a lot of variety, which is fairly typical of upscale restaurants like this one.

What a amazing meal this was. We came here celebrating my birthday and I promise I was not let down. From the beautifully cooked steak to the cheese cake with happy birthday written in chocolate. This place did not disappoint. And a big thank you to our waiter JJ, what excellent service you provided. We will most diffently be recommending the Steak House, to all our family and friends.

This place was ridonculous. We are foodies and this was the best meal we’ve had in years. Firstly, they drop off some sliced house made sourdough bread. Sometimes I forget that bread is one of the best things in the planet. I’m then exposed to a slice like this and want to never eat anything again other than this gluten filled goodness. We started out with the beet salad and the bruschetta. The bruschetta was for the better half and was excellent. The beets and goat cheese were for me. Are you kidding me? What planet did these miraculous vegetables come from? For a main course I had the veal, yes it was against my tree hugging wish I was a vegetarian self, and it was literally one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Perhaps a bit more seasoning than I’d like but I know how us Americans love our salt. This piece of meat was stupid yummy. My better half had the filet. She is a bit of a beef snob but said it was amazing. I didn’t try it because my mouth was constantly full of the baby cow. We had a couple sides and just FYI the portions are good for two people. The better half had the truffle Mac and cheese. It was ok. I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars. I on the other hand I had the au gratin potatoes. I don’t know how they create this molten cheese goodness but it is why I gave this restaurant the ridonculous monicker. It really is too good to be true. We decided to further distend our bellies with the crème brûlée and a chocolate soufflé. The only negative thing I could say about these desserts is we were way too full to suck them all down. This restaurant really is great. If someplace like this existed around our home we would always have a no-brainer place to go for a perfect meal.

One of the best restaurants on the island every course was phenomenal. The crab cake has huge chunks of crab not just a few pieces with filler like a lot of places. My wife had the lobster bisque and said it was great it had a large piece of lobster claw. We shared the lobster and crab risotto which was very creamy and also had large chunks of crab and lobster. The best dish wasn’t on the menu at all but is a must have it was the featured steak a 40oz prime tomahawk bone-in ribeye so tender it melts in your mouth it is served with 3 sauces but they are not needed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves steaks and seafood.

Great restaurant with great food, service, live lovely music… I only give 4 stars because I personally feel that the seating is too crammed, It gives a claustrophobic feel while you eat so close to others, most the time only a chair length apart. And as far as the menu goes there are a few things you wouldn’t be able to get from the grotto but the grotto has a lot more, if you are picking between those two, any day I vote grotto hands down but I do enjoy this restaurant :)

Love this place. It has great food, atmosphere, and location. Nice restaurant in the San Luis hotel. Best place for whole lobster on the island. Great staff to boot! We eat here all the time and my boys love the steak.

Who: My wife and I What: Each of us started with a salad. Her: an heirloom beet salad which she really enjoyed(delicious). Me: a Bosc pear, walnut and Stilton salad that was perfectly dressed but could have used a few more slices of pear to balance the peppery radicchio. We both had some drinks as well. She had a pomegranate martini that didn’t impress(it needs to be fresh juice in the drink to earn her favor) and a house Cabernet Sauvignon that she didn’t like. I had a Stella Artois because the beer selection was terrible(American pilsners). The main course was where The Steakhouse really shines. We split the 12 oz filet and the side of green beans and shallots. Both were expertly prepared without being over seasoned. The steak was the best we had ever had and the green beans were a nice compliment. For desert we had the chocolate soufflé. It was fine(my wife says yummy) and the ice cream was velvety. The verdict: A nice atmosphere and good waitstaff combined with good food made this a very pleasurable dining experience. I’m generally no fan of Landry’s restaurants, but they do know how to do it right, at least for the expensive stuff.

My wife and I stayed at the San Luis Resort over memorial day weekend. We decided to try the Steakhouse mainly for the convenience of not having to drive somewhere after a day at the pool. We didn’t make reservations, but did call ahead before we headed down. There were no tables available until 9;00, so we sat in the bar area and had a beverage. There was live music, but we couldn’t quite see from where we were sitting. It was pleasant, not too loud which I liked. After being called and lead to our table, it was pretty clear that this wasn’t just a «hotel restaurant». I’d guess that more than half the guests there may have come just for the restaurant. The server was very attentive and proactive. Despite a full house and no reservations, we were sat a great booth near the center of the restaurant, which we thought was great as we could see everything that was going on around us which we enjoy. The menu is pretty big and there were a lot of off the menu«specials». Both my wife and I opted for an off the menu special. I had a bone in filet and my wife had a filet with crab legs. My filet was cooked to perfection and tasted phenomenal. My wife’s filet and crab were cooked perfectly as well and also had a great flavor. We ordered a lobster risotto to share as a side and it was plenty of food. We shared a nice bottle of wine over dinner which the server(who also said he was a sommelier) recommended after my wife and I told him a few wines we like. He was right on and recommended a great bottle of wine for us. Overall, we had a great meal — its definitely on the high end price-wise, but well worth it. I think it would have been quite a bit less had we ordered from the menu vs. their specials. But the server did a great job selling the specials that we had to try them as our first visit there.

GF and I split the 36oz tomahawk ribeye and sides. Excellent service, the steak was awesome and everything else was what you’d expect. Definitely a hidden gem in Galveston.

I am not giving this a 4 star even though I hesitated about it. Most of the food quality here was outstanding I had the smoked pork chop and omg it was the best thing ever! I am not a big fan of the pork chop and it was mouthwatering good. All of the sides we had were delish, especially the scalloped potatoes which I never really eat. We had a birthday table of 9 and every single person enjoyed the experience up until check time. The only thing I thought was certainly not worthy of the price is one of my friends had the Kind Crab and filet. I tasted a piece and it was just flavorless. Very surprising for him as he is a big Filet person. At the end of the evening –first off –you should always have your staff ask the table if guest are select card members” Therefore when the tabs are being settled it doesn’t turn into a cluster-f-word of having to re-figure tabs. The waiter just flat out told us we had no birthday reward, and we had to email and email to make sure our points were added.(However birthday rewards were on their when we checked the next day) I guess it was too much trouble to use the reward for him. They lost one of our companion’s credit cards. My friend had to cancel her credit card the next day. As of last night they still had not credited her with her rewards, so she will have to email them! After I had left as the others were finishing up there drinks and tabs because it took a good half hour– one of my friends called me and said the waiter wants me to re-write in your tip because they lost the tab. I had to keep checking my credit card to make sure they didn’t charge me twice for the tip since it was signed for twice, and them asking someone else to sign for me because they lost the paper is not acceptable. I sent in a survey response to the survey they sent me and still have had no response from anyone and this was on 05÷14÷15. No apology or anything. If you are going to spend 376.00 on a great dining experience, you should assuredly should have that total experience, and not leave after such a good experience feeling stressed out.

We stayed at the resort that the restaurant is located in, and at 6:00 called down for earliest reservations. We were told by someone, who sounded confused or distracted, to come down at 8:00, dress code casual, no cutoff blue jeans. I told the wife«Well THAT was a weird conversation for some reason.» So we went down at 8:00 and walked in, but there was no podium or greeter, so we sort of stood there and looked around awkwardly for someone to register with. The place was packed to capacity and quite hectic. After a few minutes someone came up and asked us to have a seat at the bar. We were dressed quite casually — polo shirts and shorts — but the rest of the clientele seemed to be very well-dressed locals, many of the men in expensive suits. We took the award for dressing down and were recipients of a few looks. We’d of dressed it up or gone elsewhere if we had known. Nothing about this place was clicking for us, everything about it was just off. After a few minutes my wife asked the maitre’d how long the wait would be, and he replied«The customers have paid to eat here and they’ll leave when they are ready.» We were like… wtf did he mean by THAT? Are we intruding here? Any answer that consisted of «15 minutes» or «45 minutes» or even«6:00 is really too late for reservations here, it might be a long wait.» would have been totally fine. We would have either had drinks and waited or left with no ill will. But the wife was quite offended, even though I told her that he is probably just a dumb-a55 and didn’t mean it the way it sounded. And this is Galveston, the culture here has it’s charms, the finer points of discretion not being one of them. Every visit here there is SOMETHING to remind us why we only come down from Houston once every few years. Wife said he needs a hostess to manage his reservations and keep him from having to talk to people. PS: someone sent a bottle of champagne and a fruit tray to the room, neither of which we touched; we were ready for bed and had already eaten. tl;dr: This place caters to locals, not the San Luis resort guests. I think all the 4 and 5-star reviews are reflective of what else is — or, more to the point, isn’t — available in Galveston elsewhere.

Enjoyed The Steakhouse on two consecutive evenings. Friday night was not crowded and the steaks were prepared perfectly. As good as I have had. The only difference the second night was my steak was a little on the plus side. Highlights: — Solid wine list — we had the Orin Swift Machete, excellent southern Rhone style wine that I had never seen before. The half bottle of Cab, Rhonbauer was also very good. — Steaks were excellent with the diffence being quality of meat, grill temp, and beef stock gravy that is so much better than just putting a chunk of butter and garlic like most top tier steakhouses do. Compliments to the chef! — Sides and dessert were good but not the main event. If you like red meat and good wine this is a great spot in Galveston!

Ok, I’m not a big fan of the Landry’s chain of restaurants, but The Steakhouse is the exception! This place is fantastic! Located on the lobby level of the San Luis Resort, you need to have a reservation on the weekend! We arrived for dinner at 6 pm with very few people in the restaurant, and by the time we had our entrees there wasn’t an empty table in the house! The steak here, as the name would imply, is excellent. My steak was perfectly cooked and the flavor was wonderful. We were celebrating my birthday, and they brought a complimentary, very nice, large piece of NY Cheesecake for my wife and I to share. We only needed one piece and it was excellent cheesecake. The service was excellent from all of the staff. You will enjoy your meal here. It’s kind of pricey, but that’s to be expected for this kind of food and service. I rate The Steakhouse a step above Number 13 for food quality.

We made reservations through Open Table and requested a quiet booth to celebrate our 21st Wedding Anniversary. So, apparently, that translates to being seated directly next to a party of 12 loudly celebrating someone’s birthday. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the table was in the one spot where EVERYSINGLE server had to bump into to get back to their station. Our waiter was very nice, but seemed to disappear for 15 minutes at a time. Our appetizer was crab and shrimp stuffed shells. The pasta undercooked. There is al dente, but this was close to crunchy. We ordered Filet Mignon. It was good, but not very hot. I expected more out of a 4 Diamond restaurant. Doubt that we will ever return.

When the hotel front desk told me this steak was voted #1 in Texas, they weren’t lying! By far the MOST amazing steak I have EVER had. Tender, juicy, thick-cut, perfectly cooked to order. As much as I love all the fancy topping options, you wouldn’t dare take away from this lovely steak’s identity by masking it with even the finest of sauces. We ordered broccolini & potatoes au gratin for our sides. Both excellent. Fantastic crab cake appetizer. One of the best. We also enjoyed the crab legs. Fresh and pre-opened for easy access. The tomato caprese salad was fantastic. Superior service, thanks Michael! Excellent management. I witnessed the manager personally on the floor attentive to small details of service. Cocktail lounge is super classy, schwanky and romantic. Nice, live jazz band with a small dance floor. We slow danced to a couple slow songs to end our phenomenal dining experience. Wonderful.

In Galveston for the day, wanted to pick a great place to enjoy dinner with the mother and Grandma. Didn’t find out till the end this is a Laundry’s Chain Restaurant. Owned by Laundry’s Corporation FYI. Made reservations about 7, and parked in the back, walked right up and bam there was the restaurant in the middle of the lobby. Beautiful interior, so dark you need a flashlight to see the menu which I enjoy. Pros: Great Filet Mignon(Told them I was Gluten-Free) Handled it pretty well Great wine selection Great service Cons: …Super dark …A view of the ocean across the street and they jam this steakhouse into a dark hallway on the bottom floor with no windows of the ocean??? WTH …Service was confusing, great people, but lack of proper management with them, had to tell two people for straws, and had to remind them about a espresso I ordered, we had like 6 waiters at one point and had no clue who was who. …Told waiter we wanted a box and check and she says okay and walks over and starts taking an entire parties order I’m just a stickler for service in price/comparison kind of places, don’t get me wrong this place has some good steaks… but with so many options around I don’t think I’d come back unless I stayed in this Hotel. so many choices around. Food was great, and you should try it if your in the area or staying here.

It was good. I had the filet mignon and asked that it be cooked medium. It was cooked rare to medium rare. So it was very cool and pink in the middle. I ate it anyway.(My stomach didn’t like that!) For the side, I got steamed asparagus. It was cold and tasteless. For dessert, I got the cheesecake without strawberries. It was awesome. Not too heavy. It was perfect. Actually, it was the best part of the meal. The person I was with ordered a bone in filet and asked that it be cooked medium. His came to him rare. He sent it back and asked that it be cooked longer. When he got his, he said it was perfect. He said it was amazing and that it dissolved in his mouth. He ordered macaroni and cheese and creamed spinach. The sides are served«family style» which means that you get a large helping. The macaroni and cheese was garlicky and not cheesy. The creamed spinach was tasteless. After the first bite, we were done with the macaroni and cheese and spinach. The waiters were very attentive with the water. Constantly refilling out glasses after nearly two sips. That was nice. The person I was with also ordered the crème brûlée. I don’t like it period, so I can’t say what it tasked like. He said it wasn’t very good and that he should have gotten the cheesecake. I’ll probably go back again and just order the filet mignon and cheesecake without any sides. Stick with that combo and you’ll be fine!
