I personally love this place and the fact that I can pick and choose what I do and do not want in my food. It has a lot more options than other stir fry/Mongolian bbq places I have been. My ONLY negative is that is doesn’t taste like authentic Mongolian bbq, but like it says on their sign, it is «stir fry.» Service is so-so, you kind of have to seek out a server if you need anything and it never feels like there are enough servers around, but It’s pretty much buffet style, so I see why they may only have a few people on the floor, but sometimes it can get frustrating.

The food here was good and up to par. The customer service on the other hand was not. I was a little annoyed because I thought I’d grab a quick bite to eat at a fast food place before going grocery shopping and it turned into a full sit down experience. I had to wait to be seated probably around 10 mins and then the waitress came right away and took our drink order and got us our bowls. It took a very long time to receive our bowls and once we did our waitress was pretty much done with us. We waited a very long time for her to come over to us to see if we wanted our check and I wanted a box. Our drinks were empty so she did apologize and ask if we wanted drinks to go. I was not impressed

It’s always good to pile your bowl up with goodies to be cooked. We like the varieties of meat and vegetables, sauces and seasoning. Will return again

Not a horrible place, but seeing half-frozen raw meat is not aesthetically pleasing to me. Choose a bowl — small, med & large Put as much meat and veggies in the bowl as you possibly can Leave your food at stir fry area Waitress will bring your food to you when it’s done

Well, it’s a chain, and I review chain restaurants differently :) I guess for a ‘Foodie’ a ‘Mongolian Grill’ isn’t one of those places you would visit for having something ‘amazing’, rather for having some ‘nice and different’ meal. And I think this one did it. We had a birthday in the group, and when we told our waiter that she offered any single dessert item on the house. We got the Nutella wantons with vanilla ice-cream. Pretty good. The one thing i liked was although we had a variety of combinations in our bowl, it was cooked to the perfect state.

Great customer service. Ingredients could be fresher. Clean. I don’t like that some ingredients are mixed in with others bc people may have accidentally dropped it in but it is a «fix your own» so *shoulder shrug*. I like the fact that you can taste test the sauces. Will return.

This was our first time and it definitely did not disappoint us. We both got the build your own. I love the fact that I could put as much veggies as I wanted. Service was faster than I expected and excellent. We have decided this will be our go to spot for stir fry.

Came here for drinks after a movie and decided to just grab some apps and a drink at the bar area. I had this spot bookmarked for some time and I’ll have to make my way back to indulge in the bowls. For my app, I had the chicken potstickers(similar to gyoza). They were tasty but the sauce that came with it was salty and I opted to eat them plain. Shout out to Jessica who was tending the bar area. She was pleasant and gave me the skinny on how things work. I had the khangarita(mango) and it was awesome. You can choose from 3 sizes to suite your thirst level, I opted for the schooner size(medium). There is outdoor seating and plenty of parking in the loop in front or the rear of the building. They do have to go options and of course dine in seating. There is a Gengis card you can sign up for and accumulate points from your purchases. If you leave your card at home they can look it up by email.

High Quality food to use for creating your dish and a great selection. Eat here all the time. The 4 instead of 5 stars. The service is only ok. Hostess and team are great, but the servers themselves take forever for drink refills and the check. For as little as the servers need to do, you’d expect it to be a little quicker, so they’re probably doing double duty making dishes or cleaning bowls. So if you’re going for a lunch and your on a timeline, when the waitress does a flyby, ask earlier than you think you need to for refills and the check, and you’ll be golden.

Love this concept. Pile on your meats, veggies, other ingredients and seasonings. Pick your sauces. Pick your starch. Choices are many. Food is fresh. Saturday afternoon one hour after opening and it was a good crowd. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. I would return.

Bottom Line: A chain Mongolian BBQ grill, located in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre, with great service but tables feel a bit cramped. Overall, I really liked Genghis Grill. I have been to various Mongolian grills before but really didn’t have any expectations about this place. Our server Angel was great and the small bowl was plenty for lunch. They serve Coca-Cola products and my heart skipped a beat when Angel asked if I want a to-go-cup for my beloved Diet Coke. Yes please! What I learned is that various Mongolian grills work in different ways, so here are the logistics of Genghis Grill so you know what to expect: 1. Seating: The hostess will seat you and provide menus. You can sit inside or outside. As noted above, the tables feel a bit cramped to me. 2. Placing Orders: The wait staff will come and take your drink order. You can order off the menu or do what 98% of the patrons do and build your own bowl. There are three sizes of bowls. This is not an all you can eat place but strategic stacking of your bowl is encouraged. The waitress will write your name on a card. Be sure to take this card with you through the ingredients bar and to the Grill Masters. 3. Carnivorous Beginnings: The ingredients bar has cute names for each station and the first stop is at the«Butcher’s Block» for raw meat. Options include chicken, steak, scallops and calamari among others. If you want shrimp, the«Grill Masters» will add it to your stir-fry for an additional charge. Be sure to pat your meat down. Maybe even pat your friend’s meat down. Remember, part of the fun about a Mongolian BBQ grill is the strategic stacking of ingredients. 4. Spice of Life: Next you get to the seasonings. Be sure to season your meet generously. If you aren’t sure what flavor combinations to do, you can use one of Genghis Grill’s recipe cards for inspiration. 5. Veggies: Next comes the vegetables. I highly recommend putting flat veggies like snow peas and carrots on top of your meat and putting the adding fluffy stuff like bok choy on the top. Remember, Genghis Grill is all about your Jenga skills and making the most out of your bowl. 6. Saucey: Nobody likes dry meat so be sure to grab a cup and select your sauce. Better yet, mix your sauces. Again, if you need inspiration, check out the Genghis Grill recipe cards. Be sure to put your sauce in the sauce cup and not on your bowl. 7. Grill Time!: Once your bowl is properly loaded, take it, along with the aforementioned card to the Grill Masters. They will want to know which starch you want(Udon noodles, rice, pasta) etc. If you want extras like shrimp or an egg, be sure to tell them. The Grill Master will grill your meal for you and your server will bring it to your table. So, feel free to sit down and relax. You may want to grab some chopsticks, wet naps or nuts for garnish, before you return to your seat. 8. Enjoy your creation If you find that you are totally tuned on by the raw meat and crisp veggies of Genghis Grill, consider joining their rewards program. Buy 9 bowls and your tenth is «free.» Also, you get a free bowl for your birthday. Magic Mike has nothing on the meat bowls here!

To be fair, I got pretty used to Bang Bang Mongolian Grill before it was closed, and Genghis is my replacement. Bang Bang was much bigger, so comparing the offerings seems unjust. Genghis offers an ok selection for your bowl, but I always feel a pang of disappointment when I see the lack of scallops and shrimp. Instead, I’m stuck with a choice of a few different types of beef and chicken, and maybe fish. I want shrimp and scallops. The selection of greenery, spices and sauces are perfectly fine(thank you for the tofu), and the flow is easy to understand(unlike Bang Bang, where it was easy to kind of get ‘lost’). My chief complaint would be the ladles provided for pouring your sauce into your cup; they’re designed for right-handed people, which makes using them either extremely messy for me, or impossible. I usually get my right-handed boyfriend to handle it for me. The food is cooked in good time, and brought to your table, which is nice to not have to stand and wait for it. The staff is friendly, though there does seem to be a slight lack of discipline among them as on more than one occasion I’ve sat waiting for help while our server had a personal conversation with a co-worker. All in all, I’d say it’s an acceptable replacement for Bang Bang, though it’d be astronomically better to me without the right-handed instruments and the addition of some more meat choices.

1st timer and it was awesome! I did the build your own and it was interesting. I got the medium sized bowl and it was definitely enough food! They charge by bowl size not weight so pile it up! I had chicken and steak, some veggies(it is stir fry after all) tossed in some of my favorite seasonings and the Chili Garlic sauce(I recommend tasting the sauce before adding salt to your bowl. You may find that you don’t need it!) I also recommend getting more meat than you think you need. I thought I had enough but as it cooked up it cooked down and I could have used a little more! I also did it with the steamed rice. But there was fried rice, brown rice and noodles to choose from. And after looking at the menu(while waiting on my bowl to come over) I realized they also have salads. Maybe I’ll try one of those next time! Because I will be back!

Create your own bowl is nice but I find this place overpriced for what you get. I’d recommend NOT to add shrimp to your bowl for $ 4. Not a good value considering that unlike the other ingredients at the self serve station, they hide the shrimp behind the counter so you don’t get to put as much as you want in your bowl. And $ 4+ for strawberry lemonade is too much even with unlimited refills.

Before I start this review, I need to apologize. Genghis Grill I humbly apologize for calling you an Asian Chipotle. This place is far from that! If you aren’t into do it yourself style restaurants, this place might not be for you. But if you have an ounce of culinary skills, you’ll be fine! The casual dining, do-it-yourself experience will leave you stuffed & with a meal for the next day. You pick your bowl size(small/large) & go down an assembly line of meats, fish, veggies, spices & sauces stuffing as as much in your bowl as you can fit before you take it to the cook for cooking. Once you get to the cook, you pick your carb(pasta, fried or steamed rice). My bowl was amazing! I had enough for 2MEALS! It was just as good the next day as it was the first day. I hope you get a chance to visit this place. You will not be disappointed!

My family and I tried this last week and we fell in love! I’m not a fan of trying new things so I definitely went in with a negative mindset. However, it turned out to be a great experience. We all decided to do the«make your own» instead of ordering from the menu. The vibe I got was that the«make your own» was highly encouraged by the staff and I’m not sure why. One of the issues that I had was that there are no instructions for the«make your own» food bar. It’s a bit confusing if you’re a newcomer. There are 3 sizes of bowls to choose from, each with a different price. However, that strikes me as pointless because the bowl they serve your food in, is much bigger. You could get more food if they let you use that bowl but maybe that’s just the fat girl in me lol! We ended up getting an extra cup of sauce to pour on top of our food because we couldn’t taste it in our food. Overall, it was really good and I’m looking forward to going back again!

It was like going to Sticky Rice, but with the ability to customize your own meal. It is overwhelming knowing what to choose, so my only advise is go with your instinct and avoid putting too much seasoning on your plate, there are sauces at the end of the line that will give you enough flavor. Otherwise, the end product is always good!

In their defense, I didn’t get a stirfry, which is what they are known for, so perhaps if I had, this review would be higher. Instead, I got one of their salads and it was seriously lackluster. So boring, in fact, I can hardly recall what was in it. Hold on… let me look it up: «Pan-Asian Chopped Salad — YOURCHOICEOFPROTEIN, TOSSEDWITHSPRINGMIX, CRISPCUCUMBERS, REDONIONS, REDBELLPEPPERS, BABYTOMATOES, THAIBASIL&TOASTEDSESAMESEEDS.» Sounds good, right(especially when I just copy and paste it and SHOUT it at you, eh?). Well, it was seriously, seriously… boring. I don’t know how you have all that in there and it is still not flavorful, but Genghi’s found a way(I got mine with shrimp). That being said, the wait staff was really nice and helpful, plus the layout was both sit down and carry out which I didn’t expect(from the outside, it just looked like a upscale fast food joint). I might try it again, but only for the build your own bowl. Salads here are totally skippable, especially with so many other tried and true spots at Waugh Chapel.

I would not go back to this restaurant. I had high hopes for it due to «Bang Bang» going downhill from opening week. The waiter did not mention there were free refills on the strawberry lemonade drinks from the bar until I asked him at the end. Usually there are no refills on the non fountain drinks so I assumed wrong. You wouldn’t have known that because the young lady assisting with the bowls never mentioned it. The only thing she said to me was try to get more stuff on my bowl which I did not want to do because my hand was already smelly from fish due to patting down what I already had. They should have a presser or something to pack more on the bowl so that you would not have to use your hand. The manager did come over to ask if everything was ok so I would grade an additional star for the customer service.

HORRIBLE! Nice lady behind the bar. But HORRIBLEFOOD! This was my last meal before heading to the airport. I’m so mad that my last taste of MD was this disgusting food. I did not make my own food… I ordered two entrees from the«we make it» menu. They were so bad it but my husband and I in a bad mood! HORRIBLE!!! I’m getting irritated just thinking about it. Noodles were overdone. Sauce was horrible and not authentic… the noodles were actually thicker than authentic noodles as well but that MAY be due to the overcooking of them. Other than the artificial tasting sauce… there was not any flavor in this meal. I will not be back. $ 20DOWNTHEDRAIN! If they continue with this trash… they will not be open for too long!
