You can’t write a critical restaurant review of Sweeney’s based on food alone — not that we aren’t fans of the menu! The truth is, this place has home town, glad-to-know-you pub charm on a scale of Cheers! or MacLaren’s Pub on «How I Met Your Mother». For regulars, it’s a friendly greeting from the host, wait staff and bartenders that makes you feel more than welcome as you saddle into one of the comfy back booths and prepare for a draft craft beer with ice crystals dripping down the side of the glass and healthy servings of your favorite comfort food. For lunch, it’s crab cake sliders, tuna melt, pastrami reuben and NYC burger for our tribe. For dinner, make mine a shell steak with creamed spinach and fries. The wife will take the salmon filet or pepper crusted tuna salad. Calamari appetizer is excellent, as are the caesar salad, and the seafood bisques and French onion soups. Oh, and if you just want to catch the game at the bar? Awesome wings!

When so many of my favorite restaurants in garden city were closed for private parties or were booked up for reservation times we were looking for, I’m thrilled I found this place for Sunday brunch! I was happy to see it was a nicer place than I expected from the website– it was an upscale pub atmosphere. Although their menu didn’t have as many unique choices as my other fave brunch spots like novita or revel, they offer the standard brunch options with a reasonable price. With each entrée you get unlimited drinks(mimosas, bloody Mary’s, etc), crumb cake, and coffee/tea. Their entrees are between 12−20ish$ so this is a great deal considering brunch is usually a standard $ 20+ rate when including unlimited drinks. Debating between 4 diff options on the menu, I decided to get what my friend went with– the breakfast wrap(scrambled eggs, bacon bits etc inside wrap) and loved it! Side of roasted potatoes included and I was sold(and full). Again, compared to some brunch spots I’ve been to where they strongly stress the drink limit or time limit on unlimited drinks during brunch, they didn’t bother us at all with this. The service was good when the waitress came over; however, she didn’t come over as much as I would have liked(i.e. When I wanted coffee or another mimosa) so for this I knocked off a star. However, I will definitely have this place in mind next time I think of brunch for a good deal and good food.

was served what was called chicken pot pie but was really a mashed potato soufflé with a crust had the consistency of cement. i ate a small portion of it then complained to the waiter who removed the charge from the bill. also the rolls are often stale but the place gets a good crowd because of the bar and raucous attitude! the outside tables are nice in good weather and the drink selection is quite good,

What a great place! An upscale brit-styled pubby atmosphere. I usually meet friends and associates for lunch here and have never been disappointed. The on-tap beers are fresh and do not have a moldy or yeasty taste. The food, regardless of what you order, fish, fowl or meat is always properly prepared and flavorful. The wait staff are attentive and efficient.

The hostess is a jerk. She’s an older blond lady that told my boyfriend he needed to have a shirt with sleeves on. Fine. We called his brother who was meeting us there to bring an extra shirt and told her he would be arriving in about 10 minutes. They wouldn’t even give us water within these 10 minutes. But the hostess — jerk. She told the waiter not to take our orders and not even to light the candle that was on our table. Thank goodness the waiter was super cool and at least offered to take our drink orders. Maybe if we were white the hostess would’ve had a different response. At the end of the day, it’s a bar and it’s summer. Lighten up.

Love love love the brunch! This is our new favorite brunch spot! Typical brunch menu but oh so good! I had the eggs Benedict it was delicious! Everyone we went with enjoyed their meal! The best part was the unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s! We will definitely be going again and we will be bringing friends!

Great chicken wings! We order them in all the time for family parties. I love that they have the OTB machines so you go place a bet on the ponies while waiting for your food.

Came here for brunch the other day and was very impressed. The complimentary mimosa’s, screwdrivers and bloody Mary’s was a nice touch. We sat outside and I was impressed how clean the restaurant kept it. I ordered the 12 ounce steak with scrambled eggs and roasted potatoes which was amazing. My friend had the 12 ounce steak with the eggs Benedict which she absolutely loved. The food was cooked to perfection. My waiter was also very attentive! Overall I had a great experience!

Went here for brunch. Took 45 mins before anybody even took drink orders and another 15 or so for meal orders. Unlimited mimosas, however you’re lucky if you get more than one by the time the waiter comes back to the table. Took 30 mins to come back with another guests beer. Terrible terrible service ! And the food was not worth the wait.

Most recently, my friends and I decided on Uptown for lunch. We scoped out a table outside facing Franklin Avenue. The minute we walked in the door, I overheard hostess say«why are they walking through the front door» — awkward. I walked over to her asking if she could set us up outside. While inside, I noticed they had a fair amount of tables occupied as well as their regular, gorgeous décor. The couple negative things that I want to mention is that we waited easily about 35 minutes for our lunch to arrive … two salads, one wrap & chicken fingers. Unfortunately, my one friend who can’t eat cheese(& modified her meal to reflect that) had cheese sprinkled on her salad. It was a simple fix but after the wait of her meal, she was upset. Aside from all of that, the food was decent. I’ll certainly return in hopes that the wait was just a random mishap. To go off on a tangent, Uptown is easily one of my favorite places for brunch. They always hook it up with their bottomless mimosa deal. The staff is working so hard but they still find the time to check in on you. I always do the Benedict. Highly recommend the brunch. As a tip, make sure you arrive BEFORE church let’s out, as the seating is first come, first serve.

I’ve eaten at BK Sweeney’s a bunch of times. Overall, I think it’s great. However every now & then there were a few minor mishaps. I wouldn’t say that it’s the best restaurant in town but, it’s got a comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, good menu, and yummy food. I fell inlove with the Cheeseburger Wrap and ordered it a few times. It’s very tasty but warning; a bit messy and pretty heavy. Basically, if you’re looking for a light/healthy meal, you’re probably at the wrong place! Over the summer I arrived at BK Sweeney’s with a group of friends and their two little dogs. The staff was nice enough to let them sit outside with us. The dogs may have gotten a few scraps so it’s safe to say they had as much fun as we did! I also had Sunday brunch at the restaurant a few months ago with a very large party. BK was able to accommodate all of us easily. The food and drinks were great, and the price was right! Overall, good job BK Sweeney’s!

I like this place for the bar, its a nice cozy spot to go to watch the game, have a few drinks with friend and not spend an arm and a leg considering its in Garden City. The drink specials are great! The bartenders are also very friendly and fun. I definitely will be back for drinks sometime soon. As for the food. Its bar food, and its not the best bar food. We had the mac n cheese and buffalo chicken bites during the football game. Mediocre food at best. I understand its bar food, but c’mon put some effort into the meal. The mac n cheese was soupy and the chicken was swimming in hot sauce. Definitely not a fan of the food here.

Sunday brunch! Went with two friends. I love the unlimited mimosas and other drinks listed while you dine. Service was friendly and our waitress brought our second round of drinks without us having to ask. But after that we had to flag her down for more drinks and coffee refills. I ate the crab cakes Benedict with potatoes. I’ve ordered that before and it was just as good this visit. My friend ordered an omelette with potatoes and toast and a side order of sausage. My other friend ordered steak and eggs with tater tots. Everyone enjoyed their food and everything including the atmosphere was perfect for a laid back, unlimited drinks, Sunday Funday brunch!

I’m going to review the brunch service here because I haven’t been here for dinner(yet). The place was packed out on a Sunday afternoon, with tons of people sitting at the bar area watching the Giants lose. A sad commonality at the moment. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait but we were seating after about 15 minutes. The wait staff was very attentive, quickly bringing us refills before we had to ask many times. The coffee cake that was brought to the table to start was delicious and finished by the table almost immediately. The main course was great in large portions. I ordered the steak and eggs and oh boy was this a steak egg. So much food that it could barely fit on the plate. The steak was prepared perfectly like I had asked, which is to say bloody, and over easy eggs were nicely prepared and set. Everything from the atmosphere to the food to the service was spot on and I look forward to coming here often. I cant recommend this place enough for brunch.

Another Sunday, another brunch. Did my search for local spots and came across this place and decided to check it out. The inside was nice. We were sat by the window. The place had unlimited mimosas, bloody Mary’s and screwdrivers… and coffee and tea(but who cares about that). We started with a mimosa and Bloody Mary. Friend hated the Bloody Mary, but since it’s free there was no point in complaining. Next round were screwdrivers which were stronger. We ordered eggs benedict and roasted potatoes and an omelette with fries. The food was unremarkable. The service was decent. The drinks were okay. At the end of the meal we received a 15% coupon for the next 5 visits. Incentive to return, otherwise I probably would not go back.

This joint was packed both times we’ve come here – granted, both were weekend evenings. Tonight, we got a table within minutes although it did take awhile to get our spinach dip appetizer… which was ok but not amazing. The entrees were worth the wait. My chicken pot pie was a revelation – big chunks of chicken breast, potatoes and veggies in a rich, creamy white sauce topped with buttery, flaky puffed pastry – delightful comfort food on a chilly winter’s night! The dish was large enough for two meals so I took half of it home. BF had a bacon cheeseburger with perfectly cooked(tempura?) battered sweet potato fries. The fried pickle slice that came with his burger was a nice touch. We used an Amazon voucher and they gave us a bit of a hard time redeeming it(cannot use phone app – must be printed) and accidentally charged us for a beer we never ordered or received, so minus a star for that.
