Very solid. Udon is excellent. Tempura is light and crispy. Tonkatsu is airy and tasty. This is one of those places where it’s hard to order something new, because what you usually order is so good. I have never had a bad meal here. Prices are reasonably good, not as expensive as a lot of other Japanese cuisine. I see a lot of people ordering the Nabeyaki, but I have not yet tried it myself.

I’m gunna keep this short. It’s my mom’s birthday and she wanted Japanese food so I took her here. Food was great. I got the pork don katsu and my mom got the curry udon. There’s actually no sushi here just to let you guys know. Our server melody was very sweet and on point with the service everything came out prompt and I have nothing bad to say about it. 5 stars for the delicious donkatsu and hospitality. To me service is make it or break it.

Sanuki No Sato has been a go to place for us for years. The food is consistent. The place is clean. The staff is always friendly and attentive. They are good for singles, couples, small & large groups. And they usually don’t have a wait or if they have one, it’s usually short. * First off, the food is excellent. We come here mostly for dinner. Aside from their udon, I’d recommend the Horumon-yaki. It’s intestine and I know what you’re thinking, but be a little adventurous and try it out with rice. Delicious. There are many more items on the menu than what’s listed on Unilocal. * The service is like most things here, consistent. Consistently friendly and good. * The décor is traditional Japanese and clean. * Many celebrities have eaten here; as is apparent when you walk in the door and see the wall of photos. * They accept reservations and it’s a good idea to make one, but even if you don’t, more than likely they can accommodate you in a short period of time.

I had been waiting so long to try their udon. And today was that day, and sadly I wasn’t impressed. The broth was too sweet for me. The noodles were perfect, but I left half of it, and I was freaking hungry. I also tried their curry udon, I had better, way better actually. It’s ok for the first few bites but I grew tired of it and the thickness of the sauce mixed with my noodles and udon soup base made me lose my appetite, I don’t know I just wasn’t a fan. I ordered myself the beef nanbanyaki set. The steamed egg was presented nicely, but again I thought it wasn’t great, a few bites and I tasted no flavor except the shrimp sitting at the bottom. As for the main dish, it was absolutely disappointing. The bitter after taste of their special sauce left me feeling sick to my stomach. This place is ok(the service was the other star), in my opinion, but not worth coming again. If you want bomb udon and traditional Japanese food, go to Daichan.

This place is very friendly, clean, and spacious. The food was alright to me. I only came here since this was a friends favorite place to eat udon. The soup base is very authentic from my friend’s point of view and she loves udon and has gone everywhere in search of the best udon. The restaurant has a great variety of food on the menu. I thought they had so much to offer that their menu was kind of overwhelming. But that just makes it a great place for many people to eat here(as in a group setting). You don’t have to worry about someone not liking a certain food because they can order basically anything japanese(from bento boxes, to udon, to ramen, to sushi, to chicken teriyaki bowls or yakitori, etc.). I would go back if I had no idea what to eat, I know I would have options when I got there.

Solid. This was my first time having udon, and the Nabeyaki udon was a bit fishy for my taste, but I’m sure that’s more a personal problem than anything wrong with the dish or this restaurant itself. I look forward to many more visits here!

Service was slow, waited a while in the front to be seated with no one in site. Once seated it took a long for a server to take or order. After that the food was great and service was good. Udon was great.

In this area, you will notice strip malls filled with Japanese shops and restaurants, just like another Little Tokyo. The Japanese restaurants around this neighborhood are quite authentic. I did not know what the sign [さぬきの里] meant at first until my friend told me what it meant months after I ate here. It is an Izakaya style of Japanese restaurant that offers a variety of small dishes. If you are into udon or soba noodles, I would recommend this place to you. Besides the noodles, it also has an extensive dinner menu with appetizers, small dishes, hot pots, set dinners, as well as a great list of shochu and sake. I ordered a Nabeyaki Udon(shrimp tempura, egg & vegetables) in hot soup. The tempura batter was crispy, but not too greasy. The udon has a good texture and the soup was very nice. The portion size is good for me and it really hits the spot! Ordering too much here can get pricey, but the food overall is authentic and pretty decent.

My sister and I came here for dinner on a Thursday night around 8pm and was seated really quickly. For a Wednesday night, there was a decent amount of people eating here. They have a great variety of dishes here. Their bento special looked really good, but unfortunately they only serve that for lunch. Although some of the dishes are only available during lunch, there are a few items that are lunch + dinner specials. My sister ordered the nabeyaki udon(~$ 13) and I ordered the kurobuta katsu combination set($ 22). Food here is definitely on the pricier side. The nabeyaki udon comes with some vegetables in the broth(bamboo, mushroom, etc.), chicken thigh meat, and two shrimp tempura(ask for them on the side if you like them crispy!). My set came with a side of soup(you can choose udon, soba or miso soup) so I chose the udon noodle soup(just broth, green onions, and udon). I enjoyed the broth and the udon noodles had good texture. Although my kurobuta katsu set was 22, it came with the udon noodles, a small cup of chawamushi(steamed egg), salad, and two pieces of octopus. The meat was thick and it was nicely fried. The only thing I didn’t like was there was too many fat chunks in the meat. Last but not least, the combination set came with ice cream! You can choose from vanilla, green tea, red bean, and sesame. I recommend sesame! Since this place is on the pricier side, I may try to come back next time for their lunch combo set.

This place brings back childhood memories when my parents and I would drive from OC to dine here! The food is fresh and authentic and the service is excellent! I love all the rice bowl combinations here! The portions are large and food doesn’t lack. Any udon/soba is good because it’s fresh and cooked to perfection! You can’t go wrong with any of the udon or soba dishes. We ordered Ten Don dinner set today and it was good! I love the small udon offered with the set! The tempura batter was a little too thick and not flaky enough. However the sauce was perfect! I can just eat that with the rice by itself! Yum! The soba with sashimi was also very fresh and light! The sauce that accompanies the soba was also delicious! Sashimi was definitely fresh! My hot tea was free! You don’t get that too often at other restaurants anymore! We’ll be back!

This place is okay, I guess. The food is decent, but overpriced. I also think it’s a bit sweet, but that’s their flavor profile or whatever the fancy people on Top Chef call it. Service is mediocre, too. This is one of those places that is like just better than the rest of the Japanese places around to have a big attitude, but is total shit in comparison to what you would get in Japan. Still, you go and put up with the abuse because you’re in American and not Japan. Life is cruel.

Went for a late lunch and got the bento box. Some items great, others OK but tempura was lacking with too heavy a batter and way over done. Should have just gotten udon as all the Japanese clients were doing. The udon taster that came with it was great. Also the sashimi that came with it was better than stripmall sushi places in quality and presentation. Not cheap at $ 22 with tax and tip, but definitely was authentic. Will try again and order noodles.

NABEYAKIUDON: the broth was a little too sweet for me but the udon noodles were perfect!!! KATSUDONUDON: more flavor than the Nabeyaki but the spiciness catches up to you. CHIKUZENNI: Japanese veggies(lotus, taro, shitake mushroom) braised in soy broth. Delicious. we ordered another order of it because it was that good. CHILLIANSEABASSYUANYAKI: I recommend this dish. It’s a small piece of fish and it taste so buttery. STEAMEDKINKIROCKFISH: this dish was meh in comparison to the chillian sea bass. SASHIMIDINNERSET: comes with salad, egg custard, small chickuzenni, udon or miso, and sashimi. The sashimi wasn’t anything special so I regret not ordering something more unique. I recommend getting their tatami rooms. They also have tables available, but for no extra charge you can reserve their tatami rooms(private room with mats; it makes you feel like you’re in Japan!) To reserve a tatami room they require each person order more than $ 25 worth of food which is not hard to do even for those that don’t drink.

Came here for a last minute lunch with the family based off my uncle’s suggestion. Parking is two hours for the plaza. We had a party of 8 and they sat us right away in a private room. It was very intimate which was nice for some quality family time. I read the reviews about the udon, so I ordered the nabeyaki udon. It was okay. There were a lot of veggies which I liked. I was expecting a soft boiled egg, instead it was poached. If I ever come here again, I would order the zaru udon. Overall, the food and service was average, nothing special.

FYI: They accept Credit card but only if your total is $ 20 or above. I’ve been here twice now once for their hot udon and another time b/c I was craving cold Soba. I’m not a udon expert at all but I heard that the udon noodles here is chewier than most udon but I found it to be about the same as other places. Maybe my expectations are too high. The other time I got the Tempura Zaru with soba. The Soba noodles are like any other place and I enjoyed the tempura more. The free tea that you get here is really good and I think its the same barley tea that you get at places in k-town.

I have since been here several times during lunch with coworkers. I don’t know my first visit was bad timing, but my subsequent visits have been more positive experiences. The food here is truly authentic and high quality. The service is polite and very traditional Japanese. Their lunch sets will leave you very full and satisfied. Parking is tight so get there early for lunch or you will need to park on the street and walk.

The weather is hot, but I’m still craving soup. What to do, what to do? Well, go to Sunuki No Sato. Their Sunuki Special comes with a Hot Tempura Udon and a Cold Zaru Soba. The hot soup to satisfy my craving and the cold noodle to cool me down on this hot day. Let me start of with the Broth for the soup, DELICIOUS. The best most flavorful broth for an udon soup I’ve ever had. The udon noodles were perfectly al dente, yum. The tempura shrimp was on the small side, but still very very good. A very satisfying bowl of soup. Get this one! I love cold noodles and the Zaru soba did not disappoint. A good portion of the soba is served with a soy based dipping sauce and some condiments(green onion, grated daikon and wasabi). I mix all the condiments into the dipping sauce and grab some soba with your chopsticks, dip into the sauce and enjoy. What a good combo, hot and cold, yin and yang. This was a great way to enjoy a contrasting dish with both being very good. Service was very good and efficient. Price was reasonable. If you’re craving a good bowl of udon or a cold Zaru soba dish, look no further, this is the place! Enjoy! 2015 Review #85

I usually come here for udon on a cold day. The udon here is really good, the noodles are fresh and the toppings go well together. The broth has an almost burnt taste to it. I am not a big fan of the broth. I normally like my broth soy sauce-y. LOL. But, nonetheless. I think the udon hits the spot for me when I want something hot in my belly. I came here for lunch this week, but it was so hot, I didn’t really want udon. I saw pictures of the una ju(eel) on Unilocal,so I wanted to give it a try. My normal fish is salmon(as evidenced by my various love letters to salmon on my previous Unilocal reviews), but the pictures look so good that I thought I would deviate. I am so glad that I decided to give it a try. The eel, which came with a sweet teriyaki-type sauce, was excellent. It was tender and juicy. The fish melted in my mouth. YUMM! The lunch set also comes with a salad and radish. I think this is going to my go to dish from now on. It’s a little on the pricey side(about $ 20), but definitely worth it. Parking gets really bad here. It’s in a small plaza with Union Bank and other restaurants and stores. During peak times, you will be fighting to find a spot. When I was leaving, I saw 2 cars fighting for my spot. I would suggest coming here either a little earlier or later to avoid the crowds. I came at 11:30AM and had no problem.

Its been a while since I have been here, but there is probably no better place for udon in the South Bay. Sanuki is located at Western &182nd in Gardena. Gardena and Torrance are a hot bed of Japanese, and other Azn cuisines. The variety and number are far better and greater vs Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa and Irvine in OC. In addition, Sanuki is a traditional Japanese restaurant, and most of the clientele were speaking Japanese. I ordered the nabeyaki udon($ 13.50 — literal translation means cook in hot pot udon). This dish typically includes shitake mushrooms, spinach, egg, chicken, kamaboko, and of course tempura shrimp. My colleague ordered the oyakodon($ 13.50 — chicken and egg rice bowl — sorry no pic). The nabeyaki was excellent. I have not had this dish in some time, and the broth and ingredients were a perfect combination. The noodles were nice and chewy, the other ingredients were not overcooked, and the shrimp were large and nicely fried. The only downside was the price: 4 Stars. Secondarily, the oyakodon was very good. My colleague is a picky eater, and they accommodated his special request for veggies on the side. He has also worked in the area for 10 years, and Sanuki is one of his favorite Japanese places: 4 Stars. The ambiance is traditional Japanese, so its no wonder that most of the clientele was Japanese: 4 Stars. In addition, the service was very good. The staff was very friendly, and outgoing. The only downside was my colleague’s food came a few minutes after mine: 4 Stars. Sanuki is a very good, I want to spend more than $ 10 kind of place, located in the South Bay. I am so happy to be working in LA County again, and even more happy to be working in the area because the food options are so good.
