Worth every penny! And it doesn’t take very many pennies to make it worth your while. I like the Chirashi bowl for about $ 13 but today I got a spicy scallop roll, and vegetable tempura and it came with miso and green tea. All in: $ 10.53

I’m sorry but this place is just awful… I love Kula and came here because they were temporarily closed. The baked volcano was seriously sad. I seriously had to force myself not to gag. Don’t waste your time and money. I’d rather starve. If I could NO stars I would! The only good thing is that I got my money back.

Since Kula Revolving Sushi is temporarily shut down for a few weeks, I wanted to try a different place for sushi. Best believe this place will be my new«go-to» spot from now on and I spent under $ 20 and got what I wanted.

I stopped here for a quick lunch to go. It seemed like everyone was getting their food and leaving before me but I was so preoccupied that I didn’t make a fuss. Even though I didn’t complain at all, the lady at the register explained the delay and apologized several times before offering me any free drink of my choice. How sweet! Food was delicious of course!

Yum. As recommended, I ordered sesame chicken and Calif roll combo. Wow, was pretty filling. Pretty good, too.

I frequently get dinner here when I do not feel like cooking. The combos are endless and the owners are great. I usually have the meatball, croquettes and california roll… this stuff is very tasty!!!

My family has been eating here for over a year now, and it’s good quality japanese food. We usually order the two-item combos that come with miso soup, rice, and a small salad. The prices are reasonable, and the staff are very friendly!

It is good, but when I hear the name I want to believe it is going to be the best and I am sorry it is just average. Good price I guess but don’t worry it is still 3 star which means it is still worth it to go :)

One of the best spot to grab a quick lunch! Happy to work nearby western, here you will find many whole and a wall restaurants. However, this spot is one of the best. they have great selection of reasonable Japanese food. Their salads are always my go to here, along with the sides of sushi rolls. The best part about this place is their miso soup, always warm and perfectly seasoned. The service is also quick and attentive. I admit the place does need a more uplifting vibe, but who cares? as long as the food is good, service is quick, what else could you want. Highly recommended for people that has 1 hour lunch.

So many choices for lunch around this area — and although I wasn’t that excited about trying Sushi Island, I’m so glad that I did! The sesame chicken is absolutely amazingggggg! We also tried the grilled salmon, salmon roll, and Japanese meatballs. The salmon dishes were fine, but I prefer Azuma’s meatballs, which aren’t doused in teriyaki. Overall, what a great value for lunch. They give you a ton of food(includes soup and salad) and the staff are friendly.

Had the craving for unagi avacado and well I could’ve went for an assortment of sushi but I didn’t see nigiris being a part of the menu(To go) so… I am a fan of traditional sushi nigiri from an OG Japanese sushi chef. But I was in sweats and sleepin most of the day kind of day. I spent about half an hour looking around and wanted to avoid a Korean sushi spot at all costs. If I’m going to pay sushi prices for to go I might as well eat something worth eating than nijiya sushi. The sushi at sushi island might as well have came from Senari Sushi, tasted great and authenticate rice texture! The waitress bagging the food was beautiful too just sayin.

This is one of my favorite lunch spots. Super affordable yet delicious! 1, 2 or 3 item combos are popular. I usually go for 1 or 2 items(3 item combo is HUGE) Each combo comes with miso soup, salad and rice. You can do double rice or all salad if you like. You should try grilled salmon, salmon avocado roll and chicken cutlet. They are very good!

The salmon avocado is my go-to here. I go fairly often now. Their combo meals are such a good deal and you can’t beat their prices. They don’t have saucey, crazy rolls. They have simple fresh rolls and it is great to be able to get a cheap healthy meal that is good quality.

I wanted something quick and inexpensive so decided to check this place out. I got two orders of the spicy tuna roll, salmon w/avocado roll and sesame chicken and paid about $ 17 total. The sesame chicken was good, but the rolls not so much. I was expecting better based on the reviews I saw so I was disappointed on that but I wouldn’t mind coming back to try the other menu items. Hopefully ill have a better experience.

My new favorite lunch spot for quick and tasty Japanese food! Located in a small plaza on the corner of Western Ave. and 186th Street, this restaurant is nestled amongst a variety of different Japanese businesses. Though there is usually ample parking, the daily lunch rush can sometimes have you circling the parking lot a couple of times. I really like their Combination Plates! You can choose one, two, or three items from a list of 22 different options, including chicken, fish, tempura, sushi rolls, and more. Each combo plate comes with salad(the dressing is delicious!), steamed rice, and miso soup. I definitely recommend getting the Sesame Chicken(chicken karaage)…it has to be the best I’ve ever had, HANDSDOWN. Cut into small pieces, their sesame chicken is lean yet super juicy and flavorful! The batter on the outside has a perfect crunch. I can’t seem to get enough of it! When I first discovered it, I’m pretty sure I ate here three times in one week! It’s that good. I also recommend getting the Japanese Style Meat Balls. Though the meatballs themselves weren’t very flavorful, the teriyaki sauce it comes with makes them quite tasty! Another of my go-to items is the gyoza. Their gyozas are Korean style – fried, so the outer wrapper is crunchy. They are so good by themselves, they don’t even need shoyu(soy sauce)! Sushi Island also has some pretty good sushi and rolls! I’ve had their California Rolls, Cooked Salmon Roll, Philadelphia Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll, and I was happy with all of them! The sushi rice is on the stickier side, and there is always lots of filling. Sushi Island’s employees are always friendly and very nice. In my experiences, their service has always been fast whether I’ve called in an order or walked in for pick-up. They usually tell me that the wait will be 10 – 15 minutes, but my food has always been ready in under 10!

I love their sesame chicken. It’s perfectly seasoned and sweet but not over bearing sweet. The sushi is very mediocre. My spicy tuna and salmon had a weird texture. I thnk I was just not feeling sushi at the time. But solely for their sesame chicken I would go back and their combo is super affordable. They’re very sweet. Credit card use for minimum purchase of $ 8.

I ended up grabbing dinner here one evening, thanks to two regulars, who walked up to walk into the restaurant, while I was looking at the menu. Father and son — told me they come here once a week and that it’s the father’s favorite place. How could I not even try it with a shout out like that? So, I walk in and I’m offered any seat in the place. Only two other parties, including the party who walked in just before me. Lots of take out business I noticed. So, as it wasn’t very busy I expected and I got great customer service. The server, I don’t remember her name — and I even asked her — was friendly and attentive. Ordered a combo set(see pic). Comes with Miso. 7 pieces along with a roll — your choice. Everything was great. The fish to rice ratio was just right just as the price is, for the amount of food you get. They were out of the dessert I wanted to try so I’ll have to make a return trip for it sometime soon.

So good! This place is located in a strip mall just off the 405 and Western, so it’s convenient for those who don’t live in Torrance/Gardena. We were actually just trying to find a place convenient to grab take out on the way back home and we’re so glad we found Sushi Island! On a Saturday we called in for take out at around 5:30 and it took about half an hour for the food to be prepared. I didn’t think it would take that long but they had orders backlogged like crazy(which was already a good indicator that the food would be good). My boyfriend and I got Sushi Combo D(yes — that feeds 2 – 4 people) which comes with 20 pieces of nigiri and your choice of two rolls. We opted for the spicy tuna and the salmon avocado rolls for our rolls. Those were probably the weakest part of the meal(rolls aren’t supposed to be the highlight anyways) as the spicy tuna was very standard and the avocado in our salmon avocado roll was slightly underripe. However, the nigiri we got was really delicious. One of my favorites was the albacore with roasted garlic — it was so flavorful and had its own sauce that lasted our car ride home. I also thought for each piece, the slabs of fish were very reasonably portioned and tasty. I would definitely come back — prices were very reasonable(all of that food was ~$ 38) and the service was very nice. I would definitely say that it is more of a take out place(there is limited seating) but there is ample parking and a call in advanced will do the trick!

I never knew Sushi Island was in this plaza(where SSG is & across from Local Place) until a friend brought some over for dinner. Since then, I have been here about 3 times in two weeks; I love their sushi! I have eaten inside and it is cozy & clean, but I find it perfect for takeout as it is fast & on my way home! Most importantly, their rolls and combination plates are super affordable. For example you can get the following rolls for only $ 4.00: salmon/avocado, CA, spicy tuna, vegetable, cooked salmon and fresh water eel. Yes, delicious sushi rolls for $ 4! I like that the sushi is smaller sized as the rolls fit in your mouth without making a mess or forcing you to devour too much at once. Also, it is a decent rice to filling ratio! Not just giant globs of rice. If you call it in, they pretty much always have it ready in 10 – 15 mins.
