Stopped in for some nachos and a beer. Wanted to sit away from the dining room, so we sat in the only booth in the bar for a bit of privacy. Maybe we would have had better service in the dining room at 2:30? Server brings chips/salsa/beans, but no napkins? When we asked about draft beers, she rattled the names off so fast, we could not understand her. Went with bottles. Nachos come out, and since it was 2 of us, it would have been attentive to bring plates, too(had to ask for them). Good on top, yet no cheese/etc on the chips on the bottom. A thought would be to put layer of chips, some cheese, then remainder of chip order with rest of toppings? No offer of water refills, no real attention given by server(and we were the only ones in the bar at that time). Sorry if we put you out by being in another spot of your restaurant. Bill comes, and no cinnamon crisps like in the past(very spotty on when those are presented). Get to register, THEN she offers crisps. Sorry, too little, too late. Shame, too, as someone in town could/would make a real dent in the offerings in town, and Aquila seems to not want to do so…

Have tried this place 4 times. VERY disappointing. Slow service, nachos ice cold and toppings on the very top, just chips underneath. Food is expensive and so not worth it. We were the only ones in the bar, as we wanted a snack. Server acted«put out ». No napkins, utensils served with chips and salsa. Server never checked on us, we would have told her about cold nachos. No water refill. Like the location, has potential. But some one dropped the ball with location change. Overpriced. Don’t bother. Shame

Came here while visiting friends and the food was great! portions were huge and service was good. Pollo a la crema was super flavorful as were the fajitas. The Pollo a la diabla was a little sweet and not quite spicy enough, but still tasty. Would definitely eat here again!

So we tried this again to see if they made a mistake from our last experience(see previous review). The rice and beans were back to their normal portions which was good. They did, however, raise their prices. EACH entrée is now $ 2 more, that’s steep in my opinion. Their online menu has their old prices, so be prepared to pay more when you actually go to the restaurant. Bottom line, yes they have good food and their new place is nice inside, but we family ended up paying about $ 10 more than we did a few months ago. Bummer.

I love the new location. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good. I had the fajitas and it was good but not the best I’ve tried. My husband had the carna asada burrito and said that it was really good. We have eaten at their old location in the past and the food was a bit better but we will go back and give it another try as it was a busy holiday weekend. Overall, I would recommend this place.

This has been purchased by a former employee and is now called,“Jerry’s café”. It is open 6am-2pm for breakfast and lunch. Jerry, the pleasant owner, waited on us himself. Everything was very nice and clean, too. We love little friendly cafes where one can get some local flavor. We will make this a regular stop between Lake Tahoe and Mammoth.

The BEST! Service 100% A+! Staff was genuinely friendly and highly efficient, you could tell that they worked together as a team. Full service cocktails and beer. Somehow they must have picked their avocados in the Garden of Eden– never have I had such flavorful guacamole(Cilantro was very fresh). The red salsa was incredible as well, such flavor! The plates were HUGE. Seriously, the biggest I have ever seen. Rice was very flavorful, beans authentic and very delicious. The portions were huge, if you don’t get filled you might have a tapeworm! Seriously, I had every intention of cleaning the plate completely but after loading up on chips, that divine salsa and rockin’ guacamole, well I didn’t want to be wheeled out in a wheelchair! The atmosphere is unparalleled by any other in Gardnerville or Minden. High ceilings and ample room to walk around. You can have your own«space» even in a busy time. Even the bathrooms were large and very clean. I in all honesty can say only high positive praise about El Aguila Real. Give this place your business and they will give to you an absolutely amazing dining experience!

We ate here for the first time a couple of days ago, & I have to say, BESTCHIMICHANGASEVER! Better than any other place in Gardnerville, IMHO. The shredded beef was fresh, no fat, and delicious. We love the new location, its beautiful and classy inside. Great service also. Solid 5 stars.

Crazy addicting chips, salsa, guacamole and refried beans here. Food and service have always been great. Problem is I’m full by the time the entrée arrives. Nice to see them in this new and larger location!

They have moved into the old Two Guys from Italy building up the street. into a larger location. The chili relleno, enchiladas were both good as was the pork burrito with sauce. Chips and sasla, along with the rice and beans were tasty and plentiful. I like this place better than any other Mexican in Gardnerville or Minden. Big portions! The new location has better parking than the old smaller spot.

Food tastes like it had been frozen for decades then stuck in the oven then served. Beans and rice were crusty and the entire table was so disappointed. Will never go back

I remember coming here all the time as a kid and I have never been dissapointed! But this past week while visiting family we came here and I had some pretty terrible enchiladas. *Crying* They were filled with really harsh completely raw onion and it completely overpowered the meal and made them almost inedible. *Crying again* The three stars is because I know I probably just caught them on a bad day because like I said I have never had a bad meal here before, and my fiancé had fajitas that were excellent! I look forward to our next trip up here so I can hopefully update this into a five star review! Until then. *Still crying*

Excellent food, low prices, good service. And the Tres Amigos plate will feed a family! Seriously, the plate alone is 16″ in diameter! Very tasty. The chile relleno is one of the best we’ve had. Try them!

It’s nice to order up something that is time consuming to make at home, like tamales. I love El Aguilas tamales! Their tacos are authentic and delicious. The sides of rice, beans, as well as the homemade chips are great! I always ask for mild Pico de Gallo. Make sure to go either ravenous or be prepared to take a lot home!

My dad and I have made it a habit to stop by this little known place on the way back to Reno from the«Valley.» I first came upon this place with my good friend Sean after a full day of hiking in the desert. This place certainly does satiate the appetite! Looking at it from the outside, it’s non assuming and normally, I wouldn’t go into someplace like this, but my friend had eaten here several times before and I trust him. Parking is odd, but you can park just off the street on the west side and walk into the entrance on the south side of the property. Restrooms are located outside. The structure is of cinder block construction. Nice and solid but doesn’t lend itself to aesthetics. Despite that, they did a decent job to decorate the environment. During the winter, it still feels cold inside, even with the heat on. Service is very good throughout the entire meal. We were seated and handed our menus quickly and drinks were brought right away. This time, I ordered the Burrito relleno with pollo. For you gringos, that’s a chicken burrito with an ortego chilli. Not spicy, but great tasting. It felt like less than 5 minutes passed and our food was at the table. My burrito was HUGE! No, it’s bigger than that. It was just silly in size! My dad’s chicken shell-less tostada was big and looked great. The lettuce appeared fresh and crisp. Both plates were placed on the table with a warning that the plates were hot. And, hot they were! Wow! But after a minute of barking at my food because it was hot, I noticed something. Hmm, I sense that the temperatures on the inside were cool. This took my 4 stars down to 3 stars. The burrito was so big and thick that they couldn’t heat up the inside completely! After two bites, I noticed a woody green stick in my food. Ahh! I found the ortega chili stem! Not bad, but I didn’t expect it. I don’t know if it was meant to be that way or not. I’m figuring that it was supposed to be like that. The prices were good for the amount of food you receive. My burrito was under $ 12.00 whereas my dad’s shell-less tostada was under $ 11.00. — — — — — — — — — – Bottom Line Yes I would go back. Their menu is large, their servings are large! If I keep eating there, I too will be large!

Heard mixed reviews about this place, and since it’s one of the few Mexican Restaurants we’d never been to, we gave it a shot. We opted to sit outside, which was a good choice; We were seated right away, the tables were spaced at a comfortable distance, and we were greeted promptly. Pros: * Friday– Margaritas were 2 for 1 * Super friendly Bussers who kept chips, salsa, and waters full * kitchen made our table a spicy salsa. Fantastic. * Chile Rellano & Tacos were decent * Bathrooms are actually outside, so convenient if you’re outside. if not, well… Cons: * If a beer or margarita was ordered, it’d take awhile
The busser brought everyone a cinnamon/sugar Mexican«Cookie» topped with whipped cream at the end of the meal. Nice. None of the food was over the top, just reasonably priced, standard Mexican grub.

The green salsa is tasty, and they brought me plenty of water. I had a taco salad, and I had them cut my cheese in half, which they were very willing to do. Others in our group had other entrees that they enjoyed. But, for me, the best part of this restaurant is a summer afternoon underneath the spectacular tree adjacent to the parking lot. You get to see the parade of cars go by on HWY395, and they make as good a margarita as you can find in the Carson Valley. So, hot afternoon outside on the main street, not a bad decision.
