Our last visit and I mean LAST visit to G-Town Philly Steaks was horrible. The worker behind the counter was loud and rude to people on the phone. He was also mumbling to himself something about being mad about being alone at work. Apparently he was mad because a co-worker was late?! Anyway it was horrible to listen to. When our steak sandwich came it was like eating pieces of shoe leather. (we had just commented to the new owner a few weeks before that about how tender the beef was. Go figure?! My family and I went often when it was Mac’s, but never again. Perhaps it was a one time«bad day» but who wants to bother to find out again.

While visiting a friend in Geneva, he took us straight to G-town for dinner, one of his favorite places. Call me a brat, but after going on a «sandwich tour» in Philly with my uncle in the food business, I’m pretty particular about my Philly cheese steaks! I got a basic Philly cheese steak. The bread was a good consistency, taking in the right amount of flavor from the meat but holding its own! The meet was seasoned well although I would have preferred a bit more cheesy goodness! Overall, I would try it again if I’m ever up there as a quick lunch, just maybe not dinner worthy again…

Generous portions. Very reasonable prices. Friendly staff. I got the chicken cheese steak with onions, peppers and mushrooms. The guys got a bacon, bleu-cheese, steak sandwich(could have used more bacon) and the fish sandwich(which usually they only make on Fridays, but they were super nice to make us one on a Saturday). Nice slaw. Reminded us a little of our old hoagie shop outside Philly, though no one makes the bread quite they did in the day. Not farm-sourced and seasonal ;) but good, hot, comfort food.

My original review slightly criticized the lack of a wow factor from G-Town(originally reviewed under it’s old name of Mac’s). After having deliberating intensely on what should make a 5 star eatery, I’ve decided to update my review to include G-Town here. Here’s why: — Their Steak and Cheese is my favorite around, and one of my favorite ever. It’s not too greasy, the banana peppers and mushrooms I get on it are always evenly grilled, and I never leave unhappy. — The fries are seasoned with pepper and salt and are crisp and delicious. — I mentioned this before, but the staffing is great. There was a guy that used to manage the staff that moved early 2013, but even after his departure, the remaining grill staff are awesome. Are they master chefs? Probably not. Are they good guys who are friendly towards customer and grill steak and cheese consistently well? Definitely. — Amoroso rolls are always fresh and do not suffer from the«overly thick» syndrome where you can’t taste the contents of your sandwich. Quite honestly, this 5 is a more developed 5 than my other reviews. I’ve eaten here probably a dozen times in the last 8 months, and I can’t think of a time I didn’t enjoy my meal. Their steak and cheese is probably my favorite quick meal in Geneva, and in my opinion way better than Ciccino’s and Cam’s steak and cheese. I can’t really speak for most of the other menu items as I’ve really not experienced much else. Bottom Line: Is it a gourmet steak and cheese that will blow you away? No. But it has become my favorite local eatery, and consistent service and awesome staffing gets a 5 from me.

Have looked at it many times — and passed — but finally pulled the trigger on a recent stay in Geneva. Big fan of the real Philly experience — Pat’s not G — ‘s(can’t even type the name) — so the bar is set very high for anyone advertising cheese steaks. Amoroso rolls do make a difference — so that’s a good start for G-Town. Three-star rating for a takeout order — so perhaps would be a star higher if I stayed in the shop. Good flavor for all items — cheese steak w/onions, sweet potato fries, fried mushrooms, tots w/cheese(on the side) — all good — but all suffering from takeout package«steaming» which resulted in soggy items all around. All things considered will try it again — but eat in the shop the next time.

I was going to Philly Macs for long time. Now I found G town ordered my normal and was shocked 16 inch missing meat to end of bun and not made with same quality meat, also not made rite. Cuban was just pulled pork fat, swiss cheese and slice ham. Some thing missing. Yes Philly Macs Now I will travel out of the way to Canandaigua.

Stopped by this place for lunch while traveling a few months ago. It was a pretty decent cheese steak, though perhaps not the best I’ve had. It was about what one would expect from a steak place. On the cheese steak scale, it’s about average, but an average cheese steak is above average food.
