ALWAYS a fun people watching experience. This past Saturday after a 7 mile hike at the nearby trail head, stopped off with friends to quench my thirst. This IS Nevada’s oldest bar so treat it with respect. As you walk up, take note of the size, outdoor tables, step inside and saunter up to the bar for a beer or spirit. There are so many historical items to view on the walls to the safe that holds patrons bras. Some of the glass windows facing the front are original. If your staying in town or live nearby, the weekend live music bring in some good crowds. Fun time. For the women viewing this, there are some good craft shops. For the gun owner there is a gun store/antique store very close. Maybe visit them first before the saloon. Parking is limited so please respect nearby shops. If your visiting from South Shore Tahoe, give yourself about 40 minutes but well worth the visit. Bring the kids as there is a good deli shop across the street. Enjoy!

Love this place. The ambiance and the history itself is worth the trip. You can sit outside and enjoy your drinks and deer watch and people watch. The staff has a lot of history knowledge of the bar and the town of Genoa making a great bar conversation and a memorable experience. Sande LeNae, Local Psychic & Historic Writer has penned a good read about the bar.

Dont’ walk in and say«Dayton, NV I hear is Nevada’s first settlement,» because the bar maid might slap you! Some friends and I specfically started a road trip of some historical spots in Nevada in Genoa to throw down a few cold ones at the Genoa Bar, Nevada’s Oldest Thirst Parlor! Lindsey, Ginger and all the girls could not have been nicer. I called in advance because I knew we would be skidding in right around the 9PM hour when they might close. From staying open for us past 9PM on a school night to the friendly service behind the bar, the Genoa Bar is something to step back in time and experience if you are in the area.(If you call them a day before or so or even on the day of and let them know you are coming, they will absolutley accommodate if they can. They did for us and we were grateful.) Walls lined with history of NV politicians to Wild Bill Hickok to Mark Twain, this little joint is indeed tiny, but is a compliment to the surrounding little town that nestles its favorite watering hole. Beer options on draft and tap, wine, spirits. No food, just booze. They do have a pool table, jukebox and what appeared to be a few gaming machines(I did not look closely and may have been slightly overserved with beer and history to properly remember.) Go for a drink, go for the history, go for the friendly faces behind the bar. And remember, don’t bring up the controversial topic that brews between Dayton and Genoa as to which town can properly claim to be Nevada’s first settlement.

The oldest thirst parlor in the state. This is a fun saloon with a lot of authentic old Nevada atmosphere. Service is extremely friendly and accommodating. A real part of the«Old West». The patrons are from everywhere looking for a good old fashion western good time.

It is always nice to visit this history-rich bar. The owners and staff are awesome. The live music is fun. The drinks… all delicious! There are wonderful other types of «spirits» in this establishment as well. I love it here and visit frequently. Those who feel it is a dive bar… well…it isn’t to us who love history… and to be visiting a down-home comfortable bar. And, to be in a fun place.

Such a cool saloon with a rich, un-pretentious history. The owner’s daughter was our bartender and was sooooo nice. My wife and I are going back tomorrow. Thanks Cindy and Lindsey for preserving such a great place and keeping it FUN. You made my birthday really special.

Another great visit late today. The house ale is wonderful, as is the juke. The oldest bar«in the world»(overheard twice) continues to impress

I was in Genoa for two nights. And I was at this damn bar three different times. And. It. Was. Awesome. Such a funky dive bar in the middle o’ nowhere. Fun, friendly bar tenders. Fun, friendly locals. Pool table. Juke box. Clean bathrooms. Cheap beer. Can’t go wrong.

Loved this great lil peace of history! The bartender Lindsey was funny, personable, and a great bartender! Loved how the had pamphlets with the history of the building. It was such a cool time warp. Definitely our kind of place. Wish we lived closer to come back again. This is a great lil peace of history to visit!

What an amazing place! On the way home from Gardnerville my colleague mentioned that Nevada’s first thirst parlor was in Genoa. So naturally, we had to make a stop to see what it was all about! This is such a cool little place with so much history literally everywhere you look! The authentic atmosphere is so inviting and you feel immediately like you are stepping back in time. The old wooden floors and the diamond dust mirror were incredible to see! It was awesome to read about the history of the bar and all the famous people who have visited. In the back there are bricks that people have carved their names or messages into that are fun to look over! Overall, this is just a cool place and I would love to go back again, order a cool beer, sit out on the patio and enjoy the atmosphere!

We are not really bar goers so my review is more from a tourist perspective. That said, even though we were obvious tourists easily mistaken for citified yuppies, we still got a very warm welcome and engaging conversation from the young lady tending the bar. My wife and I tried some of the creations, though I had mine with a special request of Sailor Jerry. The environment is awesome. It’s easy to just sit and take in all the memorabilia and converse over that alone. So much history on the walls and ceiling. There is also a little pamphlet on the bar with little stories and anecdotes. If you are in Genoa it is definitely worth the stop even if you just sit at the bar with a soda to take in the history. I’ll definitely add this as a little«out of the saddle» spot when passing through on future rides.

First time here, had a great experience! The oldest bar in Nevada, it’s walls are filled with different things from the bar’s past. Authentic and awesome. Cowboys, Biker dudes, regulars and tourists, lots of smiles! There was a band and they really livened the place up. If you’re in the area it’s a definite must try and stop.

It’s a must stop if you’re even close! The drive from South Lake Tahoe over Kingsbury Grade is stunning and this place is a cherry on the sundae! We ordered food — which is prepared by a place down the street and carried over — love it! Drinks were good and reasonably priced too. Trust me — just go!

Happy hour 4 – 6. This is the oldest bar in Nv! Very tiny and home like. You are greeted by friendly faces. Old wooden floors like the old west. I had a margarita on the rocks, and it was perfect. They have beer on draft, in the bottle. Cheap wine by the glass(beringer) and menu of mixed drinks. Good service! Def worth a stop in!

This place continues to be a great stop. We stopped in tonight, the bartender was very nice and the beer was cold. It was cold outside, but they’ve hidden a heater underneath the porch making it much more comfortable to sit outside on a cold night. Clearly this is a modern upgrade that I just noticed for the first time. It’s really simple, the place is do unique that you’ve got to stop in. You probably won’t be sorry, but if you are really into fancy this may not be for you.

Woot woot! Willy the owner just informed me if you are the designated driver for your group of friends like I was, the non-alcoholic drinks are on the house. I am in love with this place even more! Be safe out there, and thanks to safety-conscious bar owners like Willy(the owner not the singer Nelson).
