I recently stopped in this bank to open a new checking account. The staff was friendly and helpful enough, but the bank manager is a joke. When I presented my pay check to open the account, I was told it is Compass Bank’s policy to put a 7 day hold on checks that they don’t recognize. There was no offer to call the issuing bank. There were snide jokes about how absurd the very idea of depositing the check and my having access to my money within 7 days is «why, this bank is all the way in San Antonio…». I was not amused by the unprofessionalism displayed by the manager, not to mention the complete lack of customer service. In today’s banking, with electronic check cashing, and telephones, that one can actually call another financial institution to verify bank balances, and accounts, much less, a check clears the bank in one business day. It is ridiculous that this hard and fast rule would apply to payroll checks, especially in a small town. I would think a forward thinking banker would WANT to know any business within a mile of their location that employs 1000 people. I expect full service from my bank and will settle for nothing less, so this is NOT the bank for me.
