Driving down to Five Island Lobster Co. to walk around and enjoy the scenery, we saw this charming little market. Outside, a bounty of attractive locally-grown produce was available for sale in baskets along with plants and garden supplies(a big ol’ bunny statue I was quite taken with). While, inside we were delighted to find basically our all-time favorite food groups: wine, beer, artisanal cheeses, crackers, spreads, nuts, olives, and more. If we were living or vacationing in this area, I think we would come here every day for dinner supplies and be very content. As it was, we considered grabbing stuff to simply have an impromptu picnic nearby — which I highly, highly recommend you do! — however, the price points were considerably higher than we were expecting. So be ready for that. Also, we didn’t find the staff to be exceptionally nice. Maybe it was an off day. Maybe they were uncomfortable in the heat(I know we were). Maybe they’re not used to tattooed, pierced young professionals(who, again, looked like sweaty hot messes). Maybe they had been bombarded by tourists or zombies earlier in the day and were tired fending off the hordes, but we felt pretty unwelcome here. An older women stocking the fruits and veg outside glared at us when we showed up and even followed us inside to watch us(the space is postage stamp sized, so I’m not sure what she thought we were going to do). Anyway, it — along with the price — made us feel like we were better off just heading on our way.

I am amazed that this excellent farm stand/gourmet food store has only one review! The produce is seasonal and perfect. Pies come in on the weekends and are really good! Artisan cheeses, fine butter, organic eggs, interesting wine selections, frozen organic meats, a fascinating array of condiments and so much more. Five Islands Farm has so much packed into a tiny space that the only negative is when it is crowded it can be hard to get around to view all the goods. If you like food you won’t find a better source for all your needs unless you drive to Portland. This is an exceptional example of a well run small business. The owner and employees are friendly and gracious and the space is more than efficiently used. I love Five Islands Farm stand!

This little farm stand is a blessing to the people of Georgetown and Five Islands. Before Heidi opened the shop we used to spend our summer weeks at our cottage delaying the run up to Bath for fresh milk, eggs, and produce as long as possible and long past due because we didn’t want to leave the sanctity of the area. Now we don’t have to. Five Islands Farm has seasonal fresh produce(the strawberries this July are even better than we get in CA), artisan cheeses, fresh baked goods, milk, eggs, plants, wine… everything to round out a meal or for entertaining. So much better than what is available«up town.» So nice to be able to stop in for real produce and a warm smile.
