This store is the holy grail of Civil War era supplies for my group of volunteers. They sell many authentic supplies for those people interested in making their own clothing and accessories – patterns, fabrics, bonnet forms, old Godey’s books. But they also sell ready-made dresses, bonnets, accessories, and such. There is also a case of jewelry and a rack of literature from the period. Donna Abraham herself is an incredible resource. When I came to visit during the weekend of the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg, she took the time to answer a few questions I had about period dressmaking. Her husband chimed in a couple times, too. They made me feel like the most important customer, even though there were quite a few people in the store– a characteristic that makes me want to go back to a place again and again. And I will!
