Cool place overall with a friendly staff. The everything bagel that I got tasted pretty bland. The coffee is flavored with Inbru. Not watered down but not as robust as I like. Lots of fun ugly mugs to look at with funky artwork.

Quick, friendly service, great menu, good drinks, high quality dishes. I tried something new(arepas) and it turned out to be a new fave. Definitely coming back. Seating(oddly shaped wooden chairs) was a bit uncomfortable though.

Honestly the best place in Gettysburg to get a latte. Best latte I’ve had in a very long time. I do highly recommend this place.

Horribly rude owner. It should be called the Ugly Smug! The place wouldn’t be half bad if the owner wasn’t such a jerk sometimes. His sarcasm and blatant dislike of Gettysburg college students(who essentially make up his entire customer base) may not be completely unwarranted in some cases but is certainly unfair for all of the regular and loyal students who choose to support his local business. For someone who is dependent on Gettysburg college students to run a successful business, I would recommend not making extremely rude and unfounded commentary about the socioeconomic status of students who you think you know everything about — for your information I’m on financial aid you dbag!

I’m sitting at the ugly mug now as I write this. I’m taking the time to write because this place is not good, and travelers aught be made aware. It’s like eating someone’s grungy hippy basement hangout. And that’s coming from someone who’s at home with their hippy side! Sticky tables, dirty old carpeting, old ratty chairs. Looking behind the counter into where they prepare food, I felt uneasy as there is clearly no standard of cleanliness. There was a picture of a sandwich on the counter next to the register, I ordered it. it was brought out to where I was seated at a sticky table. It did not resemble the picture at all. Confused, I brought it up to the counter. There was NO sauce on it like the picture — and the green«special» made sauce was the selling point of the sandwich! Unapologetically, the young woman behind the counter all but stuck her finger in the sandwich to find a tiny smiggen of something and was like«it’s there… it’s just not green today.» Horrible. If you’re a person of dignity AVOID this place.

Best coffee in Gettysburg(roasted on site). Great relaxed atmosphere and the perfect place to study or chat with friends. Oh yeah, they also have arepas! Why are you still reading this? Get in there!

I had a webinar today that required internet access. Not being from town, I looked for a coffee and tea bar with wi-fi. This one pooped up. I was able to find a Cindy upholstered chair in a relatively quiet past of the establishment. I ordered a chai tea latte, plugged in my computer, and joined my meeting. This worked or great!

Best Chai Tea Lattes! Great atmosphere. It definitely helps that the staff is so unbelievably friendly all of the time! Perfect location to get away from campus and get work done.

Pretty good food and a cool location, however the owner can be rude. They ask for a tip at the register no matter what when you’re paying, even though they, at most, will shout your name to bring your food out if you decide to sit down. Other than that I like going there to get coffee, and the location is great for students living off campus or on that part of campus. Ragged edge is better.

If you are just passing through Gettysburg and want some decent food then this place might suit your needs, however one of the owners is very rude. The food and coffee are not bad(although Ragged Edge is much better) and the store is nicely decorated. There are also a lot of options including Venezuelan and Middle Eastern inspired dishes. I have been a regular customer here for the past year because I live very close by and I have been shocked by the treatment I have received here. I get takeout at least three times a week. One day they got a new register system where when you swipe your credit card, it asks you whether you want to leave a tip. The three options are 15%, 20%, or no tip. I found this a bit odd because I usually only leave tips this big when I am at a full-service restaurant with a waiter, not just picking up a breakfast sandwich and coffee at a café. I brought this up to the man behind the counter, who is one of the owners, in a polite, conversational way, just to let him know that they might get more tips if they had a .25 cent or maybe a 5% and 10% option. I wasn’t telling him how to run his store, just giving a bit of advice from the perspective of a customer. He responded rudely by going on a rant about how hard it is to keep a café profitable and how tipping 15−20% is the least I could do because, given that I can afford to attend Gettysburg College, «my dad must make 10 times more than him»(those were his actual words). I told him that many people at the college are on financial aid and that he cannot make such an assumption but he remained defensive. It has been 8 months since that conversation and I’ve still been a regular customer, mostly out of convenience because of the location. I have even been making it a point to give them a tip of a quarter or so after our conversation. However, every time I have been in there I have felt the negativity from the male co-owner of the store. This morning I greeted him friendly and he only grunted back at me with a bland facial expression, which is the regular treatment I have been getting. When I swiped my card I noticed that my name was saved in their system as «no tip guy». This is the last straw for me and I will no longer be going to The Ugly Mug. A few my friends who are also college students have said the same thing as me noting that the same man has been rude toward customers. I have also observed him being rude to his own employees in front of customers on multiple occasions. On top of their expectation for a high tip and refusal to treat customers with respect, the prices here are higher than at surrounding cafes, with a breakfast sandwich costing $ 5.25.

Coffee: a warm, delicious alternative to hating everybody every morning forever. AWHOA! This place is a hidden little gem off the beaten path in downtown Gettysburg. The Ugly Mug is a must visit for a cup of joe to brighten up your morning. The Ugly Mug reminded me a lot of a classic college hang out. You’d come here to study, for a date, hang out with friends and of course just for some coffee. The atmosphere here is unexplained, so is the vibe. While it feels young and relaxed they are bumping music that should be played while at a bar on a Friday night(re: Hoodie Allen, T-Pain, Macklemore, etc.). At the end of the coffee shop, you will find two book cases, one is hidden in the wall and the other is propped up against the wall. The one in the wall has books from every walk of life and the other has board games upon board games. The service was great and quick, too. After breakfast sandwiches were ordered the barista brought them out and delivered them as well. Grab the Jersey Sandwich, it will knock your morning out of the park. If you love peanut butter and bananas, you are in luck. They offer an Elvis style coffee, hence it has flavors of peanut butter and bananas. I stuck with my usual coffee order and didn’t get too adventurous, but maybe it’s for you. A huge perk of part of the Ugly Mug is if you check-in on the Unilocal app you get 20% off your beverage. Tip– pick up the copy of The Limerick, but be warned this matériel should not be read aloud.
