I will not be returning to this office again. I am a glaucoma suspect with a fairly lengthy family history of eye problems, so I make sure to get exams once a year to keep track of my eye health. I called for an eye appointment, and was told that they could do an exam, but no medical treatment, to which I said fine; if they saw something that concerned them, I would return at another time. When I got there, and waited an extra hour past my scheduled time, I was taken in by the technician, who began a distance refraction, but no close vision — and I wear a bifocal. I asked about the glaucoma screening, and was told that they could do it if I wanted one, and I said yes, please. I had brought along my eye records from my doctor in IL so they would be aware of my history. The tech then did the tonometry, and called in the OD. When he arrived, I mentioned that the tech had only done half a refraction, and he completed it. His cell phone rang three times in the brief visit, and he complained about that, but at least didn’t take the calls — it was annoying but tolerable. Then I called his attention to my family and records, and he took a good look with the slit lamp, but no one dilated my pupils to take a better look, like every eye doctor does and has done for the last 40 years. When I went to the desk, they told me that I owed a $ 30 co-pay which meant they intended to submit this to my medical insurance rather then to my eye care insurance. I told them that all I had was a refraction and a glaucoma screening, but no visual fields, and no dilation, so no medical treatment. The receptionist informed me that they don’t do glaucoma screenings in routine exams, so once the glaucoma screening was done, they consider it a medical appointment. She then grumbled to her coworker about how they need to explain things better to people when they make the exam appointments. Then they wanted me to return for a second $ 30 co-pay visit to do a visual field in a couple of weeks because they didn’t have time to do it today. After going a few rounds with the receptionist, I paid the $ 10 eye exam co-pay because I didn’t have anything more than a routine exam, and as I mentioned, I won’t be going back. Now, how would anyone ever get a glaucoma diagnosis if it isn’t administered in a routine exam? Your regular physician doesn’t test for it, and with no symptoms, how would anyone ever find out in time to treat it? This is not the kind of professionalism I expect from my eye doctor.

Dr. Kian and his staff are professional and friendly. I have been going to him for 10 yrs. and I had cataract surgery in the last year. I never worrry about the level of care I will receive and he has 2 offices if you have an emergency and need to see him the same day. He has been hiring support staff from the Navajo reservation and training young people to work in the Sun Lakes office. That staff is excellent and properly trained. I would highly recommend this practice.

A very high-tech office that still delivers that neighborhood doctor feeling of good service. Every machine in the office is new and Dr. Kian is one of the friendliest doctors you will meet. He will ask you questions and is very thorough. Great staff too, everyone had a smile. If you are the type of person that is normally nervous about anything medical I highly recommend this place.
