This Courtyard looked very nice and up-to-date on Marriott’s site, and seemed to match that on first impression. But only on first impression. My stay here was also my first time using my Marriott Rewards free-stay certificate, and during check-in, the employees at the front desk couldn’t figure out how to check me in, stating that they were having trouble putting a hold on my credit card. By the time they were done figuring it out, they had THREE holds put on my credit card, locking up funds for a week until my bank releases the holds. The staff were very polite, but were unable to correct what they had done. Money was already tight due to this being for a last-minute trip to see a sick grandparent, and having another $ 60 locked up by Marriott simply because they didn’t know how to check me in was very stressful and unhelpful. In addition, while the room was clean, the room seemed to be in need of repair, especially in the bathroom where the bathroom exhaust fan was inoperative, and one of the fixtures was clearly missing a towel bar(I know that seems an odd thing to point out, but it sort of stood out to me and my traveling companion). There was also only decaf coffee left in our room… a minor quibble, but came as the proverbial«cherry on top» of an already sub-par Marriott stay the next morning. For business or personal travel, I almost exclusively use Marriott, and as nice as the staff were at this particular Courtyard Marriott, at the end of the day, I try to avoid hotels that ADD stress to my travel.

I’m a loyal Marriott girl and their properties are usually pretty above average. There are some I actively look forward to staying at(Courtyard Manhattan East) and some I endure. This location falls into the latter category. On the plus side, the property is relatively new(about 2 years old). The location is very convenient if you’re doing anything at the nearby university, and it’s located in an up and coming development. That means there are a few places to eat within walking distance as well as a but of retail and a convenience store. On the minus side, my room wasn’t especially clean(sticky marks on the bedside table and hair in the shower). Parking is a bit of a nightmare — you park in a garage across the street which is shared with the college kids. Staff was pleasant enough — when you could find one! My first night I wanted to grab something from the Bistro which was theoretically open. I stood and the counter for 10 minutes — no staffer. Peeked in the back — no one. Went to the front desk — no one there either. Finally, someone appeared and said«sorry, I’ll be right back» and then disappeared for 5 more minutes. Same deal at breakfast — they have one person to take orders, make all of the food, and clean tables. The guy in line in front of me waited close to 15 minutes for a cup of coffee. I gave up and skipped breakfast. I’m not sure why they advertise a restaurant as an amenity if they don’t plan to staff it. Unfortunately, there aren’t many other options in the immediate area, so that means I’ll probably get stuck staying here again. I certainly don’t look forward to the prospect.

Stayed overnight for a soccer tournament in nearby Hammonton. Excellent by Courtyard standards. Rooms and public spaces are modern and clean, the room is spacious, linen, pillows and comforters smelled fresh and same for the bathroom. There is onsite laundry — important for weekend soccer tournaments. Only issue is parking — a bit of a pain to park in the garage and it’s $ 10. Also same for complimentary breakfast — we had to order food at the Bistro, but they had Starbucks, so it’s forgiven.

My wife and I stayed here a couple of nights while attending an event at the university. Was the room was clean and warm? Yes. Was the staff was friendly and helpful? Yes. Was it especially expensive? No-the rate was fair for what NY/NJ is used to seeing. With the main road nearby we chose to eat out instead of at the bistro so no opinion there. Maybe the halls were a little noisy on a Saturday night, but not exceptionally. I’m not so old that I don’t remember having a little fun myself back in the day. The Rowan Marriott did the job. I’d stay there again if need be. Tip: join the Marriott Club thingy online at no charge. I saved about$ 50 per night and it was worth it.

I’ve stayed at lots of Courtyard Marriotts but this new one is unlike my other Courtyard Stays for several reasons. Short Story 1-Noise 2-Parking Garage 3-Condition of Room 4-Preperation of the Food 5-It’s problematic to get a bottle of wine opened up That said the bed was comfortable and the shower was easy to work with water that stayed the correct temperature. Our room looked nice but had some issues. Longer Story I guess being located next to Rowan Collage we’d get a lot of noise from college students inside and outside the building at all times of night. Down the hall someone was also throwing a party with all kinds of decorations on the door too. Unlike other Courtyard Marriotts I’ve been too this one has a very tiny parking lot with a parking garage across the street. We were very tired after a long day of connecting flights and other things and had to park on the third level and walk threw the damp very cold parking garage to cross the small street and a couple cars whipping by. Our room looked nice but we had a few issues. The couch had stains on it that looked like possible body fluid stains. So we could sit on the couch unless we used a sheet to cover it up. The Other Problem was the roll out table. Our table had all the leg screws almost out so it was about to collapse. My husband climbed underneath and tightened the screws with his hands so it would be useable. We wanted to relax with a bottle of wine so we asked for a corkscrew. We were told the Marriott only had one corkscrew so we couldn’t have one but someone would open open it for us. When my husband got down there they let him bring up the corkscrew so he could open tomorrow nights wine too. They have the worst corkscrew ever made. It didn’t really have a pull handle and you had to use a pen to put threw a hole and pull up. Come on Marriott… So we went out the next day to purchase our own corkscrew. We experienced below average food preparation in Marriott Food Service. My husband ordered a plain pizza and it was doughy on the bottom and burnt on the top. The day we left we ordered breakfast. Our egg white muffin sandwich was missing the fruit that should come with it and the egg breakfast with served with burnt toast. Courtyard Marriotts are usually much better. As a slight update 1−31−15 We were told that this isn’t the normal for this place and have been refunded one night.

So eat at the Bistro inside the Marriot and really not sure how they stay in business. Extreamly expensive for average food and cocktails are even more expensive as well as under poured. Everything looks very nice and clean, and the employees are mostly professional. I would love to point you to a menu that has prices, but they only have one online without prices. Very sneaky. Here is the link to the menu without the prices —
I have also personally talked to other patrons who have also had sticker shock when they recieved their tab. Another issue is parking. Yes there is a parking garage across the street, and that is fine if your staying in the hotel, but its a bit out of the way if you are just stopping by for a cocktail or food. Sad they would come into town and demand those prices for the quality of food they are serving. Again, check the menu and drink prices before ordering and avoid the sticker shock.

Main complaint: we were charged 170 instead of 130 the agreed upon price. Otherwise check in and out was easy. The place was very clean and well heated. No complementary breakfast or coffee. They have a pool and a snack section downstairs. Calling in the people were nice and very helpful. We felt like it was a little overpriced for the location/room size/night — not too bad and was a standard rate. We will dispute the extra charge though.
