First and foremost, everything here is dairy, gluten and nut free. Obviously a perfect place for those with dietary restrictions. And for those with refined sugar-related restrictions. I did see ONE item that was made with agave(yay). I’ve been eating a lot of grain-free, sugar-free goods lately and I thought Dee’s was an okay bakery. I, personally, found that many of the like items sorta taste alike. For example, I ordered the the vanilla(?) donut and the boston cream pie and both seems to be constructed from the same basic recipe… what I would describe as a biscuit-y base. Except the donut tastes like a biscuit with lots of sugary frosting on top and the boston crème pie tastes like a biscuit submerged in pudding and chocolate. I also tried the red velvet cupcake(this is the item with agave-based frosting) and the whoopie pie. Again, both seemed to have been made from the same base recipe and then topped or filled with some different creams so that they can be given a different name. Additionally, I thought the cupcake rather dry. I don’t know… everything was okay but I would like to see a little more creativity from the cute bakery rather than using a couple of base recipes and several different toppings/fillings. Maybe adding a fun herb to the lemon bars or perhaps a fruit or veggie purée to keep the cakes moist. There is parking available on the side of the building and the establishment accepts credit cards. Oh! and there is dry pasta available if you’re in need. :)

I have gone to just about all Gluten free bakeries in CT. By far this place is the best. None of their items taste gluten free. They have a great variety. The donuts are amazing. Highly recommend them. I hope to see Paleo products in the future here with the growing demand and many allergies it would be a success. Especially with the variety of new flours like Cassava & Tigernut flours.

Amazing place for egg free cakes. Love all of their flavors and cake decorations. Has been ordering from this place since years. You cannot go wrong with selection here.

I’ve been a fan of Dee’s for a couple years now after being diagnosed with a dairy sensitivity. The cupcakes, donuts and squares are all magical without even considering that they are allergen friendly. This past week, I had a small wedding reception with my family after Christmas and knew I needed a Dee’s cake, since I also have a friend with a wheat allergy and my dad-in-law is also dairy free. I ordered a 12 inch egg free chocolate fudge cake with my favorite vanilla«butter“cream and raspberry filling, which is designed to feed 40 – 45 people and probably could have fed more. I consider it very reasonably priced at $ 100. Dee wasn’t even open the day after Christmas, but she allowed me to come in and pick up my cake so It would be fresh. It was so beautiful. I asked for simple decoration and she added some gorgeous wedding style scrolls and swirls with little green leaf accents. As expected, it was also delicious and all my guests were blown away when I told them what was NOT in it. The egg free cake is pretty dense, but it’s still awesome if you can’t have eggs. I will always recommend Dee’s to anyone and everyone(allergies or not).

Everything I have tried has been delicious! I can’t have gluten, dairy, or sugar so it us hard to find places that make what i can eat, let alone make something thattadtes so good– I drive 45 minutes just to come here!

Terrible bread products and very overpriced. Bread crumbles, falls apart, no crust, tasteless and way overpriced!!! Go to Aldi’s and for what 2 loafs of bad product costs here you can buy 5 loafs of good product. I saw no friendly staff just 2 people at the register taking my money for an inferior product

Good gluten free baked goods are incredibly hard to find. When you stumble upon someplace like Dee’s One Smart Cookie, you put it in your navigation system under«ABSOLUTE Favorites!» Everything I’ve tasted is incredible. The sandwich bread is tender and soft. The brownies are chewy and moist. The cupcakes… oh the cupcakes! Songs should be written about Dee’s Chocolate Fudge and Death by Chocolate Cupcakes! BETTER than regular bakery offerings. Try Dee’s and see for yourself.

Sometimes I feel like I wouldn’t be able to get through this life, these allergies, without knowing Dee’s exists. I may not be able to visit as often as I’d like, but know that I can actually purchase tasty foods despite my allergies makes this life livable! I’m allergic to gluten, dairy, soy and yeast. Her bean bread(yeast free) is a life saver. It’s so nice to have the occassional reuben or toast with breakfast. She also does rolls around the holidays with the bean bread that are amazing. But let’s be honest here, the best, most mouth watering treat is her Sunbutter brownies– they’re decadent brownie squares with chocolate chunks and Sunbutter swirls. This item is probably in my top 3 ways to consume chocolate ever, which is no small feat. I certainly don’t want to sell the rest of her product catalog short either though– I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve ever had there, with the exception of the stuffing mix(prior to knowing about my yeast allergy), but that could easily be my fault. I have, however, made stuffing from a loaf of her bean bread and it was awesome. The shop isn’t especially handicap accessible, as it’s a very tiny shop. If there are multiple shoppers in there at once things get a little crazy, but they work fast to move the line.

This wonderful little bakery makes my heart melt. Delicious blueberry donut, intense lemon bars, delish cupcakes… Gluten free tortellini?! And Italian wedding soup?! I’m in heaven… I’m in love with this place and want to purchase my wedding cake from here(one day ;-)). Thanks for the amazing treats!

I come here for dairy free frosting because why should the lactose intolerant have to regret a cupcake on their birthday? The cupcakes are to die for and the variety is an A-plus. There aren’t many great bakeries in the area, but even if there were, I’m sure Dee’s would be a stand out.

Best gluten free bakery I’ve been too so far. Not only excellent selection, but all delicious with gluten free and many other dietary needs met. You could never tell the difference with this place. Not only good for those in need of ‘special’ treats, but anyone who enjoys a good bakery with good variety.

I finally had a chance to stop here as I was passing through Hartford this past weekend! This all GF bakery(no chance of contamination, as the staff aren’t even allowed to bring outside food into the establishment) is just off the highway in an adorable little house-like building(plenty of parking). The inside is small, but well-organized, making it easy to maneuver around. They offer baked goods(cupcakes, muffins, breads, cakes, bagels, etc) and to-go items like pizza and soup. Keep in mind, Dee’s is not vegan, but they do offer a wide range of egg-free items(all items are dairy, soy, nut and GMO free). I found their prices were on par with other bakeries offering niche items, and the staff was very warm, friendly, and helpful! What I got(all vegan/egg-free): 1. Cake pop… the cake pop was vanilla cake, coated in chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. It was good! 2. Belgian chocolate chunk cookies… I personally loved the texture and taste of these a lot, though I’m not sure those who aren’t used to GF baking would enjoy them as much as I did. 3. Blondie… I really liked the blondie bar. It was soft, rich and melt-in-your-mouth yummy! 4. Red velvet cupcake… Egh. The one thing I wasn’t fond of. Cupcakes are my favorite, and I just didn’t like this. I ate it, of course, but found the flavor odd-tasting. 5. Peach oatmeal bar… Very good! If I was closer to home, I would have loved to experiment with heating it up! 6. Banana muffin… The muffin was probably my favorite item. The texture and taste were both on point, and adding a bit of my coconut butter that I had on hand in the car really put it over the top! Would I make the 2.5 hour drive for Dee’s alone? No(there are too many options here in the NYC area), but if I’m ever driving through Hartford again, I will definitely stop in for some treats! Thanks again :)

I’ve been wanting to go here for the past 2 months and finally made it. I bought 2 donuts(coconut and gingerbread) as well as a butternut squash ravioli package. I really like that they have gluten free pasta options as well as baked goods. The donuts were AMAZING, very moist and the frosting was perfect. The pasta was good too(I’ve gotten used to gluten free pasta, so I might be biased). I’ve heard mixed reviews on the cakes, but I can only speak for what I’ve tried.

Linley S. got really excited when we had some time to kill and I mentioned I was hungry. She knew just the place to take my gluten-free appetite! Cutest little house/shop, super friendly staff, and a myriad of delicious looking treats! We poked around for a minute, it’s a small shop but well laid out so you don’t feel cramped. They had cupcakes, brownies, blondies, cookies, crumb bars, and muffins. Plus a cold case of frozen gf goods. I heard they do a gluten free pizza as well! I stocked up on a huge blondie, a small bag of chocolate chip cookies, and a coconut magic bar, plus a vegan cookie for my mother, and my sister got an apple crumb bar. Prices are steep, but you are paying for Non-GMO, soy free, gluten free baked goods that are made with care and taste amazing. It took me all day to get through the huge blondie, and I had half of the magic bar last night which is also huge. My mom enjoyed her cookie and sister enjoyed her apple crumb bar. SO lucky for them to be so close to such a cool little shop that cares about what they’re serving their customers.

Wow! Ok, I decided to write this review while eating my first cupcake from this bakery. I made it about 3 licks into the frosting and one bite into my sun cup to say«oh my, well yes this surely deserves a 5 star Unilocal review» So I’m new to this gluten free thing… and heard about Dees from all you other Unilocalers. So glad we have a community of people to tell me good places to try, you did not disappoint. I walked in and was promptly greeted. Being in customer service for a long time i always appreciate a friendly hello when i walk into business’s. I walked around this small but fun filled store. There are freezers with pasta’s, raviolis, tortellini’s… a sign about what their pizza specials of the day were… treats galore… It was hard to limit myself. I am a total fat kid and could have easily taken one of everything. I went with their monkey cupcake, chocolate cupcake, a chocolate chunk cookie and a peanut butter cup they call a suncup I can only personally review the monkey cupcake which was decadent and delicious. Very filling and fairly priced. I have had one bite of the suncup(I had to review after all, haha) and OMG… most def that thing alone will bring me back. I brought the chocolate cupcake back to work for my co-worker/roommate and she called my cubicle to say«Um, is this one of those gluten free cupcakes?» I replied«Well, yes it is…» she said«OMGJENITSTODIEFOR, THANKYOUSOMUCH» and this is from a non-gluten eater. Seal of approval all around folks! I am going to leave the cookie in my desk for a rainy day…(luckily for me the forecast predicts rain tomorrow) but expect to love it as much as I loved everything else. I cant wait to go back for lunch one day and try their pizza! If you made it all the way through this review… good job! Now go make your way to Dees and treat yourself to one of their many awesome goodies!

Dee’s is without a doubt one of the best bakeries around. It specializes in gluten free baked goods, and makes them so well it doesn’t seem like they are! I went to Dee’s for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised by the amount and selection of baked goods and the kindness of the staff. Everything is made daily.(Check out the Dee’s Facebook page to see what they’ve mixed up that day – the pictures will entice you to go and will make your mouth water!!) They offer a wide range of treats, from unique flavor cupcakes to cookies and bars to pizza. The coconut pineapple cupcake – top with a slice of pineapple – was so delicious and light. The tastes of each treat are just enough and do not overwhelm you. The blondies, filled with a hint of dark Belgian chocolate bits, melt in your mouth. They are so, so good! You definitely must try one. I haven’t had a blondie that has tasted so delicious and is so light! Everything is so fresh and so delicious. It is all made with natural ingredients and leaves you feeling good after you treat yourself! The staff at Dee’s is simply wonderful. They are extremely kind and very hardworking. When I went in for the first time last week, several of the staff welcomed me as soon as I walked in, quickly helped get my cupcakes, and helped me to check in on their app(Perka).(This app allows you to accumulate points to use for more treats in the future – a great reward system!!) As you pay for your treats, you can see right into the kitchen, with the cooks mixing together goodies. The quality of the baked goods is simply outstanding, as is the staff. I absolutely enjoy going to Dee’s, with its fresh and light treats and its fantastic service.

1.) Just to warm you up: It was my birthday, and I figured I’d get a cake from the place that was always consistent. 2.) Cake: I ordered a chocolate fudge sponge cake with coconut frosting on the inside and side and toasted coconut on the outside. This was recommended by one of the staff there. I did not like this one Sam I Am, I did not like this Free-Egg cake that’s bland. Nah, it wasn’t bland, but it didn’t taste fresh. Also, it tasted just like how many people would taste the a gluten-free product to be… like crap. The chocolate sponge part was somewhat dry and the frosting was too sweet. 3.) Bread: I bought the bread, and I thought it was okay. Wasn’t the best, but it’s definitely typical of Gluten-Free bread, but I definitely have had better and tastier Gluten-Free bread before. 4.) Impressions: I dunno what to say, but this did not cut the cake. «Ha Ha Ha Ha!»(In Mr. Belding from the show ‘Saved by the Bell’ laugh).

Allergen-free and vegan options. Outstanding service! Even when I used to live in Danbury, that wouldn’t stop me from making the long commute up here. They always have several vegan options, including, but not limited to cookies, cupcakes, pastries, muffins, etc. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. After I came back for a second time, they knew me by name. Even after not going there for a few months, they remembered me and were both kind and genuinely happy to see me return. Dee is the sweetest, she’s even offered me free samples on occasion! I’ve even gotten vegan cakes here and they are so good you’d never know they were vegan. My favorite treat is probably the vegan raspberry breakfast bar. It’s delicious! The woopie pies are great too. Highly recommended and the prices are fair. The cakes can be a little pricey, but considering they are gourmet and allergen-free(depending on selection), they’re well worth the cost!

This has to be as good as gluten-free, dairy-free baking gets. The chocolate cupcakes taste just like chocolate cupcakes. I don’t have any allergies, but have someone in the family who does, so we picked up cupcakes for her. They were a hit, with a preference for the chocolate versus the vanilla. Note: if you want a cake, you should order it a few days ahead of time. There don’t really keep many on hand premade.
