Where did they go?! No longer open in the Glen Lochen mall. Needless to say, I’m devastated…

Very good sandwiches and relaxed atmosphere which I enjoy. The owner has a great sense of humor and you can tell takes pride in his food and customer service. I will be back often and frequently.

Weird location. Not a lot of meat I the sandwich… Being the only competition in town makes it easy to give this place 4 stars but compare it to a real deli and you’ll understand what I am saying.

Went back east to visit family and stumbled across this place. Best sandwich I have had in a VERY long time. Got the Notorious P.I.G. and man was it amazing! Loaded with meat and definitely worth the price, great value! I will definitely be back the next time I am in Connecticut.

As others have said this place is hidden away but very easy to find. After reading all the great reviews I decided to give it a shot and am so happy I did. The owner is an awesome guy… super friendly and has great people skills. He referred to me by name even though it was my first time there. I ordered the Nortorious PIG which canes with a pickle and coleslaw. The bread is awesome and the sandwich was packed with pork and bacon. Prices are reasonable at $ 8.00. This is the kind of place that I’d love to hang out at all day.

Actually it’s not too bad. As others mentioned it’s in a «mall» that makes you feel like you stepped back in time to 1982. Once you’re in the mall you’ll have to really search for the place. From the main entrance take a right and keep walking past empty storefronts and random stores & offices that have stuff in them and appear to be in business but may or may not actually be open even in the middle of the day. It’s a terrible place but there’s lots of construction going on so maybe someday it will be nice again. Anyway, once you find the place it’s a literal hole-in-the-wall. They have a variety of specialty sandwiches along with a a special or two. I get the one with grilled chicken, mozzarella, tomatoes and some other things. Very good. Plus you get a side you can pick from. Today was a special side of chips & salsa that was good. A co-worker reports that some of the other sandwiches are good as well. The guys that work there are always entertaining. It’s never very busy and I really think they need to move to a better location. Overall if you can find it you should try it.

Delicious!!! Owner is super friendly and accommodating. I’m very hard to impress and I rarely go back to the same place twice. However, upon finding this joint(which, by the way, is in a rather off the beaten path location… But isn’t hard to get to and the vibe of the place is so laid back/friendly), I’ve gone back multiple times. Wish I had known about this place sooner(why don’t they advertise or make use of Facebook??? They have a page but it hasn’t been updated in a lonnnng time). Glastonbury’s best kept secret! I’m not of a meat eater(which makes up most of their fare), so I love the MD Veggie.

Go there, you will not be disappointed. Staff was very friendly and helpful, even towards the very picky eater in our party. The sandwiches are all very unique, offering twists on typical sandwich combinations. We had the«Notorious P.I.G.» Which is a twist on a Cuban style sandwich with the addition of bacon and a garlic pickle relish. I can’t wait to go back and try many of the other combinations on the menu.

The sandwich i had here was awesome. Owner is a cool guy. For a traveling salesman like myself it is great to find spots like this to come to. Fresh ingredients. Fair price. Great spot.

Found this place on Unilocal when looking for lunch ideas. Never would have known it existed otherwise(kind of a weird location, but the space has an interesting retro-80’s feel to it, feels like a location from a Mork & Mindy episode). Sandwiches were surprisingly good. I had the muffaletta, which is a rare find in New England, and it was excellent. Guys behind the counter are fun and really nice to the kids.

Great sandwiches — enough said! I love the Tomahawk which is chicken and prosciutto on amazing focaccia bread. My husband had the Gobbler(I think that’s what it was called) which is basically a turkey dinner on a grinder roll. He said it was amazing — turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, the works! The owners are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are happy. I agree that the hours are tough since they are only open 11 — 3 Monday through Friday. I live nearby but work in another town so I only get to go on an occasional day off. If you live or work near the Glen Lochen Mall, you should definitely give Sammy Chez a try.

I went to this gem after my sister recommended that we both try it and man, I am glad I did! I grew up in the area so I was shocked that this Sammy’s was in the same building as the old«great escape»(which I think is no longer there). We made our way inside and were tickeled by the mini(but not confusing) maze it was to get to this spot. It’s inside a building yet not inside… interesting! But anyway, after I got over my brief confusion we sat down and came for the ride. Now, the biggest pain for me and my sister eating out at sandwich/burger/wrap(what have you) places is usually lack of options. We both don’t eat red meat which puts a lot of the good proven local choices out of commision immediately(I’m looking at you Notorious P.I.G :(I can’t eat you). But after talking to the owner(who was super friendly and helpful) he assured us that we could order anything and substitute chicken. But, me being the not that brave person couldn’t handle that and instead both my sister and I ordered the Tomohawk chicken sandwich without the prosciutto. !!! It was such a good sandwich! The chicken was nice and moist, which is difficult to get since chicken dries up so quickly so that was a HUGE plus. And the toppings on the sandwich itself were great choices– nothing was overbearing and everything fit perfectly! I also love the parmesan cheese spinrkled on top as well as the paprika! The chips were a nice touch and I loved that we had the option of a side of chips, fresh fruit, potatoe salad, or something else??? It escapes me. But the most memoral thing was that both the owner and the cook came to see if we liked the sandwich(we told them that we don’t eat red meat), So that was really nice– not a lot of places do that! I will def be back to this great place and can’t wait to eat outside once the weather gets better!

It’s for places like this that I love Unilocal. Why? Because you’d never ever find this place on your own. And that would be a shame. Because it makes very good sandwiches. The key to a good sandwich is the bread. And here, the rolls are fresh with crunchy outside and smooth inside. It’s also toasted a bit to give it some more texture to handle what is coming. The NOTORIOUSPIG sandwich is a great place to start on the menu. It’s a little heavy on the sauce but the pork was tender and not dried out. Reminded me a little of a Cuban sandwich but unlike anything I’ve had before. Add some chips as a side, and you have a winner. It’s really a bar with some outside seats and other seats, like a Reading Terminal Market place, so don’t go here for the décor. But go here for the sandwich. Hopefully, they’ll seek out a place with more visibility because they have the foundation for something good. But in the Glen Lochen mall(which was cool 30 years ago), it’s got an uphill battle.

I went to this place after gettin; a hankerin’ for a grinder, so hit up Unilocal for some close locations and happened upon this place. Lemme type this: this is one of the best sandwiches I have had in the area. not the biggest, not the cheapest, but the best, and here is why. I was able to try both the Italian stallion and the Notorious P.I.G from them and both are just quite lovely. the meatballs on the Italian Stallion are combined with Italian sausage with a hearty marinara which makes for a killer meatball sub. rather than use just plain ricotta cheese, they use cheese ravioli which are basically little pockets of cheese that explode in your mouth and meld with all the rest to make a dang good sandwich. the P.I.G sandwich… well its a tender and juicy pulled pork who is slathered(!) in bacon and is combined with a garlic pickle relish with Swiss cheese. I don’t think I need to say much more, but it is heavenly. the rolls are fresh, with a crunchy outside and soft chewy inside. They also grill the rolls BEFORE throwing all the rest of the stuff on it. Such a simple step that most places just fail to do. From there everything just screams fresh. pickles? they make em. pork? they pull that sucker the same day. the meatballs? simmering in their homemade marinara cooked that morning. there is very little that they get from cans, and I bet even the stuff they get in cans is probably enhanced in some way. as for the place itself, everything here is a very casual atmosphere and has a bit of a laid back vibe to it. the ordainments on the wall are old vinyl records in their old covers. star wars merchandise and other band memorabilia scattered throughout. even the staff is laid back a bit. they regularly chat with the regular clients, yet are prompt and polite to even the newest of comers. If I had to gripe about anything, it would be portions and location. for the price you could technically get a cheaper sub sandwich around the area. The spicy green bean comes to mind if your looking for larger portions but inferior quality. they are also located in a run-down luxury strip mall, a place where the once-wealthy would come to be pampered. only now the money’s gone, so now it’s a dusty, old, cedar structure which just looks neglected. However these are not strong enough to sway my decision. the food they put out is tasty, well crafted, not too expensive, and perfect for a lunchtime meal. If you ever get a shot to drop on by, I would highly advise you do. you would be hard pressed to find a better joint around.

Sammy Chez is a great sandwich lunch spot, although it can be hard to find if you don’t know exactly where you are going. My coworker and I eat out a lot, and finding a quick spot for lunch that is actually decent can be hard. Honestly how many times can you go to D’Angelos for a sandwich in a week?! This lunch spot well hit the spot. Their Italian Stallion is one of the best meatball sandwiches I have had hands down. The meat was perfectly spiced and the garlic french bread complemented it perfectly. Plus the cheese ravioli was just one of those odd awesome touches on the sandwich. I definitely cannot wait to go back, and see what other goodies they have on the menu. Or maybe even to just get their Italian Stallion again.

How do you go from 5 stars to 1 star? Simple… when your regular customers(3 times a week) are away on a business trip, trash talk them. That’s right, a co-worker and I used to come here about 3 times a week for lunch. Long enough, that we actually had our names up on the chalk board with check marks highlighting how many times we had eaten here. While away for a week on business, an acquaintance of ours happened to go into Sammys for lunch. She noticed that our names had been erased from the board and inquired. The response… «they haven’t been in in a few days so f@*k those guys». While I can’t deny that their sandwiches are good, treating any customer like this is simply unacceptable. I’ll never go back

My husband had actually run across Sammy Chez on Unilocal when we were trying to find a good lunch spot here in Glastonbury. I headed over there to check it out, and I’m so happy that I did! We ordered the Notorious P.I.G., the Windy City Beef, and some of the soup of the day, which happened to be chili. I didn’t have a chance to try the Windy City, but my husband said it was fantastic, same for the chili(he actually raved about it). The Notorious P.I.G. however was awesome — -great meat, perfect amount of cheese, freshly made off the grill. Also have to say that the owners of Sammy Chez are awesome – I sat at the counter and chatted with everyone there as our sandwiches were freshly prepared and you couldn’t ask for more friendly, real, down to earth guys. They even gave me a sample of the dessert they were preparing for a catering event that night(amaretto mousse — to die for). They filled me in on their story, their vision, and what they wanted to do with the restaurant. Next time we go, hopefully we can eat in! Overall, great lunch spot, and I really wish that they were open on the weekend! If you are in town during the week and are looking for a great lunch for a reasonable price, this is the place to go.

A lack of great sandwich options in the hometown led the wife and I to find this hole in the wall on Unilocal.PIcked up some sandwiches on Friday and couldnt have been more pleased. I had the Notorious PIG as well as a Windy City Beef sandwich. Both sandwiches were filling, delicious and a great mix of tender, flavorful meat and tasty veggies. Out of the two, the P.I.G. was better to me, but that didnt take away from how good the Windy City was. I am a sucker for Chicago style beef, and the pan jus to drizzle on top knocked this sandwich out of the park. We also had a cup of the chili, which was absolutely delicious. Nice flavor with the ground beef, small amount of beans, but the kicker was the chunks of meat settling around everywhere. They really added to the flavor and texture of the chili. The only downside to Sammy Chez are the hours of operation. I wish they were open on Saturdays as well, but the food was so good that I plan to figure out a way to try every sandwich on the menu, despite the limited hours. They have a great catering menu as well. When my wife went in to order and pick up the sandwiches, the owners were incredibly friendly and even gave her a dessert to eat while she waited. Needless to say, if youre around during the work week and need a good sandwich, head over to the Glen Lochen Mall and try Sammy Chez out.

I’ve been back twice since I wrote the first review. First, I decided to take the plunge and use their catering services to feed 60 hungry teenagers and I was tremendously satisfied! The fellows prepared a marvelous assortment of gorgeous sandwiches which were appreciatively devoured by the entire group. I could not have asked for more! Efficient, enthusiastic, professional and DELICIOUS! What else can you ask for? So today, I stopped by to say Hi and Thanks for the above wonderful service. I decided to order a sandwich to go while I was there… the«Notorious P.I.G.» This is a MUST have!!! Cuban style pork, fantastic bread, spices… mmmmm…
