Its ok. The wines were good but not great but the staff was super sweet. They do have an antique place attached so we roamed through there. Small tasting room but cute.

My husband and I stopped in for the first time today. We live in AZ but vacationing in NC. We spent the day before at The Biltmore and also visited the winery there. We were more pleased with the wines at Lake James then Biltmore. We tasted the dry wines and sweet wines. We enjoyed both, but my favorite were the sweets. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a little different then most with not having a vineyard next to it. Don’t let the location keep you from stopping by though. We will definitely be back on our next trip to NC!

First off its not one of your typical wineries –no views/vineyards etc… so don’t get confused on what you will experience. I did not visit the antique store, not my thing so will not rate. The wine tasting was a very pleasurable experience, the host was very friendly and made it very enjoyable. I am a fan of sweet, fruit flavored wines and they had some of the best — the watermelon wine was fantastic, wish i had purchased more.

Lovely little winery! $ 5 wine tasting for 7 wines, a very knowledgable and fun wine pourer, and delicious wines. Would stop by three again.

What a surprise! I didn’t even know this place existed until we drove up to it. I checked in on Unilocal and was told I could get a free tasting. I’M IN! We got to taste 6 wines($ 5 without the check in) AND they had a military discount. The watermelon wine is a MUST try! The woman working was SO nice. I’d go back just to talk with her!

We just visited this winery and«antique store» and we left disappointed. Now we are not wine experts, but the wines that we tasted were not very good. Maybe it is because we had just come from another winery that was much better. And maybe we had high hopes since others had been multiple times and some were excited about the«antique store.» Lake James Cellars left us lacking not only with the wines, but also the atmosphere. And the antique store was more like a big garage sale of your grandma’s left over’s. Maybe«American Pickers» could find some treasures in there, but we sure couldn’t. I love North Carolina and am glad that they are gaining a reputation in wines, but this would not be one of my picks.

Last week I visited my parents in NC and decided to check out a couple of local wineries. Lake James Cellars has a quaint tasting room conveniently located right off of Main Street, and shares a building with an antique store. Our wine host was Alex, who was very friendly and knowledgable about the wines. I really liked how they had no set list, and offered you two separates lists of dry and sweet wines from which you can choose whatever you’d like to taste. The price was great – $ 5 to taste 6 wines, and all of the wines tasted good. I ended up leaving with a bottle of Gewürztraminer, and you get to keep your tasting glass. Coming from the San Francisco area, I can be a wine-tasting snob, but I liked this place. Definitely worth stopping by if you are passing through!

I visited Lake James Cellars a few weeks ago and LOVED the Shortoff Red. Friendly people and a cool antique store! :)
