Ruffino was welcoming! First visit and will definitely be back! The staff are all personable! The prosciutto del Parma appetizer was excellent, the mussels in white sauce delicious! The pork chops and peppers out of this world! Everyone was warm and pleasant!!! Old world, try it !!! Hope you enjoy it!!!

Great grandma style Italian food at reasonable prices and a $ 10 buffet Thursday nights with live entertainment makes Stangos a must go to spot.

First time here despite my grandmother having lived across the street in The Orchard. Would describe the place as «pleasantly and comfortably tired». Probably the charm. Meal was good — basic wine list — desserts above average. Service from old«Café Al Dente» is attentive and kind. Worth the trip

This place just cannot seem to get it together. They changed the menu and my opinion they have too many items, cannot possibly be fresh. We keep trying it because it’s a nice atmosphere and would love for this old restaurant to be a go to spot. It was pricey for the quality of food and service.

Attend earlier tonight with a party of eight, and all of the dishes were excellent – chicken francaise, lobster ravioli, shrimp with vodka sauce. The cannoli were excellent too.

Let me just say: I did NOT like this restaurant when it reopened under new management. But I kept trying because I wanted it to succeed in my old hometown. Tonight – with too few patrons enjoying the warm ambience, friendly staff, and Rat Pack soundtrack – our party of five enjoyed a fabulous meal. The sole Francaise was light and lemony. The generous portion of lobster risotto was PACKED with fresh lobster. The tiramisu – made fresh in-house – was as light as a cloud. Really, people: try it again. You will be deliciously surprised!

Food was OK. The place was absolutely empty on a Sunday night. We were, however, completely taken advantage of when it came to the wine: We ordered two bottles for the table. The waiter poured us each a glass and left the open bottles on the table. A little later, when a few of us had finished our glasses, the waiter snuck back over(while we were preoccupied with our dinner conversation) and WITHOUTASKING us whether we’d like more(I didn’t), refilled glasses for two of us, TOTHERIM. That was the end of those bottles. Meanwhile, there were others sitting at the table with empty glasses who actually wanted more. Of course, the waiter offered to bring us a few more bottles. And again he filled people’s glasses TOTHERIM. That is not how wine should be poured. Especially not at $ 35 per bottle. In fact, it’s downright irresponsible when people have DRIVEN to your establishment and need to be able to drive home, you are over-serving them and they haven’t even requested it. It was clear that the waiter knew he wouldn’t be making much in tips that night, since the restaurant was so empty and he decided to take matters into his own hands to drive up our bill. I was not impressed and won’t be returning, nor recommending this place to anyone I know.

One thing about the city of Glen Cove(which I love and now call home) there is an Italian restaurant on practically every block! With all the competition, you’d better be good if not great. Stangos was one step away from the Italian food I have experienced in the South. Horrible sauces drowning overcooked pasta, eggplant parm with a heavy, greasy coating of soggy breadcrumbs and rubbery cheese. Sorry to say it was the worse excuse for Italian food I have had in NY in a very long time. I should have taken the clue that the waitress gave me when I asked how their pizza was. She said” uh it’s okay, I mean those people over there are eating it and they’re still alive”. I kid you not!

One of my family’s favorite places. The pizza is fantastic, the pasta wonderful and Stella’s Pork Chops are my top choice. That combined with friendly, attentive service puts Stango’s on our return rota.

We stopped here after learning they had re opened. It was early in the evening when they first opened around 5 and there was no one at the door. I like someone to greet you especially if they are trying to make a new start. We had the Stella Salad which was great and pizza which was also really good. Our waiter was attentive but they severed water to the table in these little tiny almost juice glasses. If you order water as your drink it should be in a tall glass with ice. Still glad to see that the restaurant is back and bringing really good food to Glen Cove. I will be back again!

We were unaware that on Sundays, they serve one«special» dinner, a handful of other entrees and pizza. That’s it, other than drinks and ice cream for dessert. The maitre’d tried to explain things when we entered, but he didn’t do it very well. We sat down and wondered why the waitress didn’t give us regular menus. Well, we ordered the«Grandma’s special» dinner, which consisted of a plate of meatballs, braciole and spaghetti in red sauce, as well as a plate of salad and one of chicken, for $ 19.95 per person. The spaghetti was OK, although the red sauce looked like ketchup and the bready meatballs were very bland. The chicken was good, except that they serve just a quarter chicken per person. The salad was just OK. Perhaps the best value was the basic table wine, which was only $ 10 for about a four-glass half carafe. We might come back for the novelty and if we needed a red sauce fix, but frankly, other local simple Italian restaurants do this stuff as well or better. And if you want really good chicken, don’t go here. Head to the Peruvian restaurant in town(called Mochiko, I think), where the bird is much better and cheaper. Stango’s is something of a city landmark that has never been at the top of the list for foodies. Now, one of the new investors is the former county executive(running again for office, as evidenced by his holding court in the back with a group of priests). I guess he thinks his presence is enough for folks to patronize the place, but it would be nice if they improved the food a bit. They have a long way to go to match another revived city landmark, St. Rocco’s bakery, where the breads and Italian pastries are to die for.

We went there Saturday Night, We had a reservation for 13 kids included. We had to wait a bit. But they were very helpful. We met one of the owners Rich at the door and he was very pleasant. The place was packed. So our waitress was a bit slow. All the food was very good and we were the first customers to be served the Famous JESSICA PIzza. Which is the best you will ever eat.

Good prices for a place in Glen Cove. It was delicious except the chicken in my penne alla vodka & my bf’s veal were on the dry side which I’m a little picky on. I also noticed that the garlic knots didn’t really have garlic which was odd. He brought a pie home for his family and it seemed that there wasn’t enough sauce either, but it could have been because they reheated the pie once home. You get a huge portion though and friendly service. I actually really loved how hot the food was, because I hate when restaurants just reheat food.

Good food, good value, friendly efficient service. I wouldn’t change anything about this place. True, the décor is as homespun and old school as it gets-it’s like a throwback. And not some hokey faux throwback, either. It’s the real deal, which may rattle someone who thinks Olive Garden is cool. Anyway, you can bring the kids, your grandma, and your status conscious friends from L.A.- everyone will leave happy. Get the Prince Albert pizza– it’s the best pizza around.

the worst possible name(I call it stinky’s) the worst possible location the worst possible décor …but you know what, the food is solid and the service is excellent! I would never have gone near this place unless several friends insisted that it was pretty good. It is the type of place where you need to let your common sense rule your heart. Given the low prices and mortgage rates available right now I think they should change location URGENTLY ! I sort of suspect they don’t care what I think though. Anyone serving food from a location like this has all the sensitivity and sophistication of George Bush… actually I suspect it is tradition thing, the oldest retaurant in Glen Cove apparently… what will they do when people are shooting up outside the door though :-/ P. S. If your a woman make sure you take a man for security when parking your car and entering this place(hey we are still good for some things). UPDATE: Roumour has it that a rodent has been spotted here so i have not been back, otherwise my review still stands. Not sure how reliable the source is… but based on the location it is not surprising if true.
