Can’t say enough about this gem near the tracks — makes every morning feel like the greatest day of my life. Craig(the owner) has simply nailed the trifecta of owning an amazing small business: 1) epic customer service, 2) superior products at a good price, and 3) frozen coffee balls! That’s right, Craig is a zen master when it comes to his coffee brewin’ skillz(#Metropolis brand). The hot stuff is insane, don’t get me wrong. But next time you visit, make sure to ask for the coffee ice nuggets — it’ll change your entire outlook on the universe. Run, don’t walk, to the Next Stop Coffeeshop in the Glen Ellyn Metra station. I’ve downed my share of iced coffee in my day, and probably your share too, so I can honestly say that this little joint has one of the best cups of iced rocket fuel you can get. So if you’re headed for the train station in downtown Glen Ellyn in the morning, don’t stop at Starbucks, go straight to the NEXTSTOP and give your tongue a ride on the taste train.

Growing up in Glen Ellyn, I definitely did not complain about a lack of chain coffee shops(Caribou, Starbucks). As I was walking through downtown a day ago, I realized that this«rustic» town definitely is missing its own little hole-in-the wall coffee stop. Next Stop Coffee Shop is not necessary a quaint establishment, but I like that it’s the closest thing to a neighborhood coffee joint. You might be weary of it, because it’s situated in the Metra Station. Fear not — no styrofoam cups and stale, watered-down coffee here! Next Stop served Metropolis coffee, a Chicagoan roaster so I appreciate the local support. I know this is now original but I liked that they served coffee ice cubes in the ice coffee drinks. They also set up 60s-style open suitcases that highlight the breakfast food selection and coffee condiments. I’m really grateful that I did not write it off when I first saw it nestled in the station. It definitely set me up well for my commute into the city.

I wasn’t much of a coffee drinker until I started commuting via Metra. My home station at Glen Elllyn has the best coffee(Metropolis) and friendliest staff(Craig and Co) of any coffee shop I’ve ever been too. I definitely prefer their coffee and conversation over Starbucks or any chain… Highly recommend.

One morning in August, I was delighted to discover this kiosk operating out of the Glen Ellyn Metra station primarily because of the Coffee: They serve«Metropolis”-roasted coffee.(Metropolis is an independent father-son roasting company from Chicago the quality of which easily rivals Intelligentsia and for less money). Both the espresso-based drinks and the drip coffee are the best in the area up until 9AM when another local eatery opens that serves this same excellent coffee. They also now sell«whole bean» or ground 12 oz bags of coffee as well for home consumption. Food: One can purchase tasty muffins, scones and breakfast bars sourced from«Honey»(the local eatery referred to above) and tea from«Serene Teaz» located in Wheaton. If you’re looking for a step up from Starbucks early in the morning(they open at 5AM– close at 10AM though M-F), then give this place a try. Oh, the Service: Craig and Joy are a husband and wife team who are really polite and eager to serve; all the workers excel at customer satisfaction, are easy going and don’t mind my occasional hurried rush(«cup of joe, quick!») for a cup of coffee1 minute before the train arrives!
