Greek Taverna

My favorite Greek Place in the area, no doubt about it. The staff is friendly and the old man that greets everyone is such a delight! The manager Jerry is so funny and its clear that he has a great connection with his workers. I had the Lavraki and ordered it with a side of steamed kale, it was to die for! They even filet it in front of you and do a pretty good job if I do say so myself! I also tried the Mediterranean Mule because the bartender Jackie recommended it and it was probably one of the best drinks I’ve ever had! A few days later I had some food delivered to me and it came a lot quicker than most places! Highly recommend everyone to stop here with the family for some authentic Greek food!

Terrible food. Mediocre service. Forgot one of our appetizers. The one we did order was terrible and too sweet with honey almonds and goat cheese, weird combo. The owner ordered a bunch of food for his table and it came out before our food but was ordered after we had already been waiting. The server was a nice boy but I’m not going back.

I am very surprised by the recent reviews to hear that the restaurant is going down hill a bit. I’ve had eaten here just recently I love their octopus and the eggplant dip it was just as good.

I’m only giving a 2 star be cause of the waiter, he was sweet, not trained very well but it was only his second day. The front bar was busy when we arrived, now I know it was the day after New Years but as we walked in everyone just seemed to stare. The restaurant was pretty dirty, again it was the day after a holiday but get rid of the day old balloons. We were seated at a four top and instead of leaving the nice cloth napkin with utensils on the table, they actually removed them and put down paper napkins.
The hummus was the worst I’ve EVER tasted!!! It actually tasted stale… I don’t eat meat so I asked for multiple side orders as my entrée and the beet salad as a starter, he even asked me if I wanted them all at the same time (I said no), all arrived together!!! The Horta (one of my favorite Greek veggie) arrived and it was spinach! My beets had to come from a jar :(and they charge for all refills on drink. I will NEVER come here again!!! It’s northern jersey we have way to many authentic Greek restaurants here and there prices were out of control for what they served… I did like the warm pita bread it’s sad when that’s your only redeeming quality.

Stopped here for a casual work lunch. At first glance, the menu seemed a bit formal, but the wraps we went with were perfect for lunch. The fried cheese appetizer was absolutely amazing. Convenient location and tasty food!

Pass it on my daily NJ transit commute to NYC. Finally took the kids (7, 4) there today. We took the train for an extra adventure!
Positives: Greek-​run. Fresh, warm pita triangles served when you sit down. Delicious salad. Think cuts of gyro. Pastichio presentation was amazing. Too full to try it so we took it home. Kid-​friendly and clean space with cute Halloween decorations. Staff was super friendly. They were attentive. Owner Steve played with the kids and gave us extra desert to bring home. Wow.
Negatives: Hortas were a bit tasteless and the spanikopita wasn’t the best I’ve had but both were tolerable.
Overall, one of my favorite restaurants in Bergen County.

I am sorry, because the service was good, that the food was very poor. A generic imitation of Greek food, lacking authenticity, and even worst, lacking quality.

Love Love Love this restaurant! We stopped in randomly one night after just moving to the area and have been visiting and ordering from Greek Taverna ever since! The food is so fresh and delicious! Everything we have ordered has been top notch! We also found out they deliver (I had had surgery and couldn’t drive) and even upon delivery the food was hot, fresh and delicious! They even have a chocolate baklava that is every bit as good as my mother-​in-​laws (and that’s a hard thing to beat)! Everyone at Greek Taverna is wonderful and friendly, you won’t be disappointed!

I tried this place twice hoping the first time that they were having a off night. The problem is that the second try was worst than the 1^st. The food just isn’t as good as other Greek places in northern NJ. The servers were so nice so I gave them 2 stars for that. Sadly we won’t be going back.

Came here for one of their greek night. What a joke for food. If you want greek authentic food. This is not the place for it. Entertainment was good but music was load you leave with your ears ringing. Wouldn’t come back.

This restaurant is one of the best Greek restaurants to which I have been. My family took me here for my birthday and we have been going back at least once a week ever since. The food is absolutely sensational and the staff is extremely accommodating and responsive. The atmosphere is elegant, yet comfortable. Being right across the street from the train station makes it particularly convenient for me to meet my husband here for dinner.
My family and I love this restaurant and look forward to many more delicious meals here!

The service was good the food was terrible. Lumpy hummus, soggy sloppy spinach puffs, and just a big bowl of tasteless ground beef that was supposed to Mousakka. There was exactly one piece of eggplant and one half a potato in the pan. The becamel was so sour it has stayed with me all afternoon. Big no to this place. On top of all of that the atmosphere in the outer room is just sloppy. You can see dirty dish rags in sight… Just unpleasant.

Been here and the others in Edgewater and Montclair, and always satisfied. Had the hummus app with the delish chargrilled with olive oil triangle pitas. The gyro platter is huge with salad, Greek fried potatoes and more pitas. Here $ 16 really will fill you up. Wash it down with a Greek beer, then top it off with Greek kafé and the best rice pudding ever. You won’t be disappointed or hungry. Met the owners and was treated like family. I love this place and will be back for more Hellenistic specialties.

My first review that is not 5 stars. Worst place ever. Don’t even waste your time when you can find better Greek food for half the price at nearby locations.

I can’t stop craving their OCTOPUS WRAP. You won’t go wrong with this soft, delicious meal. Ugh, hell, I might just order it now for dinner!

Food was solid. Service was really exceptional. I ended up staying late, even past the polite hints until finally the manager gave a deadline and said when the busboy finishes you have to leave.

I felt the food and service here was much better than the Montclair location. It wasn’t cheap, the bill left me scratching my head how it got so high, but it always adds up in the end…
I’d go back.

From the moment we arrived the staff was attentive and courteous. We ordered drinks before dinner and wanted to socialize a bit before ordering, we were never rushed even though we took a bit of time before ordering an appetizer. The waiter was attentive but never pushy. Our appetizers were very nice, the waiter mixed one for us and served us.
My girlfriend and I had the branzino and the waiter offered to remove the bones for us before placing it on the table. Very nice.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere and service was great. This was our second time there and we’ll be back again.

— my father got the moussaka — it was amazingly delicious & the portion size was HUGE
— my mother got the chicken platter — didn’t get to try this so can’t comment
— I got the greek salad with gyro on top: there are two sizes and I got the smaller size — boy was it ginormous! I was not able to finish it all — and i tried so hard to since it was yummy
my family and I ended up taking about ½ of EACH of our dishes home.
a little expensive compared to other greek places, but I would definitely come back!!!
