Once upon a time, I taught at an American preschool in Germany. To this day, I remember the Director chanting to the kids at lunchtime: «Essen. Essen. Nicht vergessen.»(translation: «Eat. Eat. Don’t forget») Luckily, there is not chance of anyone forgetting to eat at this place! If you are at all a fan of German cuisine, you will have fun poking around. On one visit, I was thrilled to snag a bottle of Curry Ketchup, which reminded me of my wurst eating days in Bonn back in the day. I also took home a container of German Potato Salad on that that visit, and have since become addicted. One of the friendly guys behind the Deli /Meat counter suggested I warm it before eating. Tried that, but I must confess, I prefer it at room temperature. Good stuff. Am also a fan of the Bratwurst, both spicy and regular. They offer both a raw and precooked option for the regular Brats and having tried both, I have to say the precooked ones are just as good and easier. Kid loves the Haribo Sour Coke Bottles; if you’re into Haribo gummies, they have a better selection than most. There are also items I have my sights set on to try on future visits: Bratwurst Burgers Pretzel Buns Fresh(!) Spaetzle Apple Strudel Bienenstich(custard-filled yeast cake topped with honey-glazed almonds) I would also love to try the attached restaurant of the same name one of these days. To quote a famed sort of German(does being from a bordering country count?): «I’ll be back!»

After the Forest Pork Store moved to Long Island, this is one of the last great German deli/butchers in NYC. Walking in this place the smell of the meats is mouth watering. You can easily spend a king’s ransom in this place the longer you hang around. Their homemade salads are excellent and they are one of the few places that carries Bauer’s mustard. Hope they stick around for a long time.

Attached to Zum Stammtisch German restaurant, you can walk through and pick up your favorite German meats and candies. They are only open until 6pm and the store is tiny, but very unique! They have many chocolates and candies up front along with a small beer cooler. The back of the shop is the real winner though, with fresh German meats, sausages, cold cuts and salads. This place has things you won’t find elsewhere!

They are normally good, but this weekend, I got pork chops and when I got home to cook them, they smelled spoiled. I ended up not cooking them. Was too late in the day to bring them back.

I wanted to love this place, and admittedly I do. They have a great selection of quality food and products you really can’t get outside of Germany… That being said I recently purchased a frozen meal that was prepared in their kitchen and frozen to be eaten later. I just microwave the sauerbraten and saw that the meat was green. I’m disgusted by the fact that I almost ate that and at the quality of it overall. I’ll def be back to the restaurant and the pork store, I just will never buy the pre-prepared meals again. I highly advise you stay away from the frozen pre prepared meals If you want more quality overall, go to Schaller and Weber.

Smack dab next to the restaurant bearing the same name, the adjacent pork store was well worth my time to quickly explore. Time was short, the shelves offered products I was very familiar with, but adorning different labels. I’d wished to familiarize myself with more intimately with each jar, but alas, it wasn’t to be on this day. Solution? Just keep buying stuff and upon reaching home — read, slice, dip, sip, swallow and repeat. Vavel sour kraut, Koch horseradish, Lowensenf mustards, including a sweet and spicy Bavarian style of the same brand. Kiihnu– Grunkohl Nach all found their way into my basket along with some hard bread, Wilds party rye squares to sit below my knockwurst, goose liver and bratwurst. Not to mention a sixer of Francis Kahner dinkel. Upon reaching home I felt pulled back in time to my grandma’s house where I snacked upon such authentic delectables. While procuring my meats, a fine gentleman who held down the deli counter offered me a taste of the Speck which took my taste buds back in time once again to Oma’s kitchen.

I’m glad they made this place, next to their restaurant… As an old German neighborhood, we had our share of good delis, many are gone… This place has all the old school cold cuts, head cheese, liverwurst, bologna… And Bauers mustard! They also have take out frozen dinners from the restaurant. A great place to shop before a fishing trip or big game.

I really like this place. They have store-made items I really like such as their various versions of bratwurst(large, small and breakfasty). I also find their potato salad to be very good. Some of their other salads I’m only okay with. So why do they get five stars from me? They’re the only pork store in the area that’s open on Sundays! They have rescued many a last-minute barbecue. Also, they have the most extensive selection of pre-packaged German goods in the neighborhood(cookies, bread, soda, candy, jars of condiments, etc., etc., etc.). And finally, the Zum Stammtisch Pork Store is in glorious GLENDALE!(not Middle Village, not Ridgewood, not Forest Hills, not Woodhaven, not Flushing fer cryin’ out loud!) Don’t let anybody else tell you differently. I also like Muncan’s and Morscher’s as well for their respective strengths – and those aren’t in Glendale.

Right next door to the best German Restaurant in the state is a authentic German deli that serves all different types of meats along with plenty of snacks and things you would have a very hard time trying to find unless you are in Germany. The place is quite large and the staff is very friendly and will help you out for whatever you are in the mood for. Don’t come here hungry though. You will want to get everything.

They have a lot of great German products here and the staff are very friendly. Some of them speak German, too. A lot of the items they sell are hard to find elsewhere — specialty condiments, beers, some of the canned fish, Dr. Oetker mixes and chocolates — but others can be found in some of my local supermarkets like Stop and Shop and Key Food on LI. So I didn’t need to stock up, but the prices are reasonable enough to amass a good haul. The bottled beers, for example, were around $ 2 and the selection was broad. The delicatessen counter at the back has many varieties of bratwurst(but not my favorite Nürnberger würstchen, sadly), hams, frankfurters, potato salads, and the like. There is also a small case with baked goods like strudel if that’s your thing(it’s not mine). What struck me as a little odd was that there were some foods like fresh potato pancakes, prepared frikadellen(seasoned meat patties), pretzels and bread rolls just sitting on top of the deli area completely uncovered. You won’t see that in Germany for obvious hygiene reasons and I’m not sure why they have chosen to do that here. I give it three solid stars since it’s such an interesting and well-done German mini-market. It gets an extra star in support of international outlets like this one which, I feel, really add much-needed atmosphere to NY’s towns and villages. I found it on my first ever trip to Glendale, which is a great neighborhood to walk around. Little Germany! Who knew? Queens is underrated.

This store has something for everyone. A little something for those who eat meat, and a little something for those who don’t. The meat products are in the back, while the wide range of German/Austrian beers are located in the front. This store particularly stands out because they sell Reber Mozart chocolates. Yum.

Wunderbar! Stammtisch Pork Store is the child of the restaurant next door, Zum Stammtisch. This wonderland of imported specialties and top notch deli delights is sure to please the German in your life!(Die Deutsche in Ihrem Leben!) While other German restaurants and delis have closed up shop in the area, the Stammtisch brand continues to grow and serve the community that has come to love them. Stammtisch Pork Store offers everything from imported cookies, candies and treats to prepared meals from Zum Stammtisch. With a full German butcher located in the back you can find your fill of wursts, prepared salads, imported meats, cheeses and dairy products. If you’re a beer enthusiast, and if you’ve found your way to this German haven it’s safe to say that you are, you’ll fall in love with Stammtisch’s selection of over 40 different imported varieties! In need of a new glass to pour your hefferveisen in? Not a problem, because they also offer a variety of glasses and other novelty items from Deutschland.

Hot off the press… or should I say Cold from the freezer… Stammtisch Pork Store has added a freezer case which houses a variety of their«restaurant» entrees. This weekend I purchased frozen Sauerbraten dinners(sauerbraten with gravy, dumpling & red cabbage). I also purchased a container of extra sauerbraten gravy because you can never have too much of this tangy gravy version of heaven, pretzel rolls and 2 bottles of Spaten. «WunderBar » I’ll be back this weekend to try another one :)

This store has got everything you need from Germany — Deli, Baked Goods, Snacks, Candies/Chocolates, condiments and more! They even sell glasses from Zum Stammtisch next door(attached). They have a wide variety of German Sausages and this great Pretzel Roll baked at a local bakery in Queens. Fun place to visit and get all your German needs.

This is an extension of the Zum Stammtisch restaurant, and it’s really an awesome addition to the neighborhood. They have a great selection of steak, ground meat, pork, and sausages in the back, and all of those hard to find items from Germany like sour cherries, stinky cheese, and black bread. They also have a great selection of beer. If you can get past the touristy kitch up front, this place is really a great and serviceable delicatessen.

With the recent closing of the Karl Ehmer stores in the Glendale and Ridgewood area as well as Gasper’s in Middle Village, the only German butcher/pork store left in town was Morscher’s in Ridgewood, which is out of the way for me. I have long been awaiting the opening of the Stammtisch Pork Store. They have a wide variety of knockwurst, all types of bratwurst, Landjäger etc. etc. Walk down the stairs and you will find import crackers, baking needs and other dry goods. There is even more to peruse among the racks of candy inlcuding almost every Kinder product a child(or adult) can imagine. There are also canned goods and a refrigerated section of herring, sardines and the sort. Prices range from average to higher than average, however, considering this is one of two German shops left in the area, one does not mind paying a bit more. If you are new to Stammtisch be sure to take a stroll through to the other side and have dinner at their restaurant portion, Zum Stammtisch. Metered parking in front.
