The dining room is now known as Gray’s, after John Gray, developer of Salishan. Who knows whether this name will stick. They have changed chefs at least once in the past year, maybe twice. The décor was redone a few months back and I thought it was funny how our server commented on how terrible the design choices were. The chairs have no arms, which is a little weird for a place where you want to linger over your meal. Anyway they were running a weekend prix fixe special with choice of soup or salad, entrée and dessert for $ 35 … seemed like a pretty good deal. The cheese-garlic bread they brought first was delicious … loved that. Tried the brie soup which was very heavy and salty … too much before a large meal. Also not very hot. My hazelnut encrusted halibut was nicely prepared and served with scalloped potatoes and quite an array of vegetables … in fact so much food was stacked on the rather small plate that it was hard to tell what was what in the dim lighting. Veggies were only lukewarm which seemed to be true for everyone in our party. Hubby complained his scallops were rubbery. Traditionally here they have served the larger tender ocean scallops but this was a pile of the small ones. Got to try a bite of the filet which seemed very good. Desserts were good although the cobbler had kind of a cake topping rather than the traditional crumb topping. Extensive wine list so you should be able to find something you like, although our choice #1 was out. Hubby wanted a port with dessert and the server didn’t seem to know what that was so she brought the wine list(book) back. No ports by the glass listed. Some dessert wines by the bottle. Who buys a whole bottle of port? He caught the attention of a bartender he knew who happened to be walking by and the guy brought a port down from the bar for him(thanks, Mark!). So we will probably come back on not too frequent an occasion because we live in the area … but the problem is you can just never be sure of the quality of your meal here. It’s not like Tidal Raves or Side Door Café where everything is always good.

It’s a hotel«fine dining» restaurant. Don’t expect the food to match the price and you’ll leave happy. Basically, food tasted good, but was overpriced.

TL;DR: Do your homework. Make reservations at another place in town on a busy weekend. My husband and I were staying at the resort on Valentine’s Day weekend and wanted dinner, but all the places in Lincoln City were full up. So we made a reservation at Grays, the resort restaurant. Bad. Choice. We arrived to find no hostess. When she did appear, she was unsure about what was going on. My husband found a coat rack around the corner but the hostess said we should just lay our jackets on the seats at the hostess station. Hubby insisted on hanging them up. Throughout dinner, saw other patrons’ coats thrown on stray chairs in the dining room at the hostess’s request, which was weird. We were seated, after like 5 minutes of waiting for hostess to figure out what was happening, and then waited 15 minutes FORWATER. And then another 10 to have our order taken. And then another 30 until our food arrived! We did not order drinks, apps, or salads… I ordered the cioppino. The broth was good, but the lobster was horrible(as another reviewer said). HORRIBLE. But I’ve only ever had lobster in Maine, on the coast, which is ridiculously fresh and very affordable. So this was disappointing… My husband ordered the Ahi over potatoes. It came out with lots of tuna, about 12 halves of tiny potatoes, and a lake of chinese-restaurant-quality chili sauce surrounding a few nice pieces of broccolini. Also on the side were two giant balls of wasabi. All of this added up to three delicately-flavored things paired with two intensely-flavored things. He gave it a try but it was unsurprisingly disappointing. The chili sauce may have been the most bizarre choice, but it was a tie with the giant wasabi balls. We told our waiter we were done as he was pouring us water, and he said«oh you’re done?» And then swirled around and poured water at another table before leaving the room, and ignored us for 10 more minutes. Finally, got his eye and asked for the check. Dinner was terribly overpriced. We paid $ 70(with tip) for 2 mediocre entrees. We went upstairs to attic lounge and had a much better time.

Very disappointed. Caesar salad with frozen lettuce, raw carrots and potatoes with the entrées, and a poached halibut Asian soup rendition that was awful. The temperature of the room was very cold and had the ambiance of a hotel meeting-room-turned-restaurant. Our server was a bit creepy and seemed inexperienced. It didn’t feel like a high-class restaurant, but the price certainly did. If you go, stick with the steaks; they were decent. Better yet, find a better(and cheaper) place in town.

We ate at the Sun Room today. We waited to be seated. We waited to order. We waited for food. A total of 55 minutes from enter at 945am to food at 10:40am. The place was not full but service was really slow. The food once it arrived was very hot and good but pricey. $ 12 for basic egg/bacon meal.

I came here for a Spa treatment and to stay the night. We walked up to the Dining Room for dinner and it was lovely. There is a nostalgic feel here and it is a bit dated but the quality of food and the choices of wine were outstanding. The wait staff bent over backwards to make us two wine-snobs happy. We ordered crab cakes, chicken Oscar, all he Ahi tuna and arugula salad and all were to die for, especially the chicken Oscar. OMG! BTW, the Spa is amazing as well! Tanya was perfection!

This is a review of The Sun Room which is the Hotel coffee shop. It just reopened for dinner. Service was a little shaky but the waiters seem to be experienced and we had good, attentive service. The menu is adequate. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrees are on the menu, a few in each category. My wife really liked the chowder. My side salad was ok. We both had the salmon entrée. The salmon was good. My wife requested a substitution for green beans and got Brussels sprouts which she liked. She had crème brûlée for dessert and was pleased. The wine list was pitiful but we requested The Dining Room wine list and we were satisfied. It is a shadow of what it was in the 5 diamond days but we had several good choices and selected a nice Puligny Montrachet which we enjoyed. I had a nice after dinner drink. It worked for us as we didn’t want a fancy and expensive dinner.

I went to this restaurant with a coworker while attending a conference at the Salishan Resort. Eating at restaurants I can’t normally afford because my boss is paying for it is a business trip tradition for me, and that traditional usually entails steak. With that in mind, I ordered the filet mignon and it did not disappoint. Ordered medium to medium well and it came back the perfect combination of juicy and charred. Mashed potatoes with the bearnaise was fantastically rich, and the asparagus that came with it was better than any other restaurant asparagus I’ve had in recent memory. They also served local beer, which is a plus in my book. My coworker ordered the prawns and was not real happy with them(too salty), but I didn’t have any problems with my meal. I would eat here again(provided I wasn’t paying!).

We stayed at the lodge last night for my birthday. Granted, it was a Groupon deal and a totally last minute trip out to the coast so I wasn’t expecting much. We checked into our room and I was really impressed. We needed to have dinner and everything in the area seemed to close at 8 so we settled on this since they were open until 9. The menu seemed limited but fine and nice enough for birthday dinner. My birthday is often on Father’s Day as it was this year so I wasn’t surprised when we walked in an there was a larger party(about 15 people) at a long table taking up a large section of the dining room. I was apprehensive and I learned after our meal that my boyfriend had the same thought of leaving as I did while we were being seated. The server was a doll and took fine care of us. The wine list: it is extensive and is touted as one of the best in the state. The bottle list is pretty impressive but the by the glass list is just plain awful. 14 Hands? Really??? Who puts this thing together? There are many many many better choices available in the state at the same price point that isn’t served at every Red Lobster or Chili’s in the nation. Gross. I expected more. I ordered a glass of rosé from the Loire and I’m pretty sure they served me the white zin instead. It was sappy sweet and I couldn’t drink it. I asked and she assured me it was the Loire rosé. They should rethink that selection if they are also going to sell white zin. The food: minimal selection but enough variety that we were both appeased. The bread was warm and fresh and smelled wonderful when delivered. The salads were crafted nicely and they were unique and tasty. There were two selections and we ordered one of each. I am a huge cioppino fan so I chose that and my boyfriend ordered a small filet. They were fine with his choice to sub steamed vegetables for the potatoes listed on the menu. The server took our order and then returned to the dining room to deliver the large party’s food. We were seated directly next to them so we heard all of the issues they seemed to be having. Steaks were overcooked. One order was completely missing. It was going to be 20 minutes for something else. We were very nervous about our order now and the server was visibly shaken when she came to check on us. Let’s talk about how excited I was when I read«not a good place for kids» on the Unilocal page before making our final decision on where to go. It’s my birthday. I don’t have kids. I wanted a nice quiet meal with my boyfriend and some wine and just to have a nice experience. Well, I did not get my wish. This was a large family taking their father out for Father’s Day. Adult children, their spouses and small children(2 under the age of 5). The adults were loud and laughed and cackled out loud the entire time. The kids pounded on the table and screamed and cried and talked about how they just peed AND pooped. I was absolute appalled and my boyfriend mentioned to me that he felt like he was intruding on their private event. Back to the food: We didn’t wait long. The order was correct and the presentation was nice. The cioppino was beautiful. The broth had a hint of spice and it was served with a beautiful huge lobster claw. I was so excited to crack into that monster! I did and it was SOLIDRUBBER. I was so sad!!! I had already complained(politely asked) about the wine and couldn’t bring myself to gripe again. I ate the rest of the soup, which was extremely enjoyable and just let it go. My boyfriend’s steak was perfectly cooked but so over-salted and over-seasoned he couldn’t eat it. I mean, it was an 8oz filet, and some steamed veggies. Not a lot of food, but he just put his fork down and stopped. Between nearly jumping out of my skin from one ladies screaming cackles and the baby pounding the table-top and the older sister encouraging her by yelling«pound it pound it pound it pound it» — we were done. We finished our meal and walked to the front to pay. We couldn’t even wait for the server to return and offer dessert. I felt bad for the staff. They knew we were unhappy but what could they do? It was such an awkward situation. I worked in and have a university degree in hospitality management and I’m not exactly sure what I would have done to make it better for us either, given the small space of the dining area, but dang it, I wish it wasn’t such a horrible experience for my birthday. Maybe they need to put larger groups with kids in private rooms. I’m not sure I’ll go back but there is a more casual style restaurant on property and a bar/lounge that might suffice next time.

Stopped by dining room to get a dessert to go. Place was empty yet we had to wait ½ hour. I complained to hostess that is she would have told us it would take so long we would have gone to get a drink in the bar instead of waiting at front desk. She said they were out of an ingredient they needed. Why didn’t they tell us that and let us have it without ingredient or pick a different dessert??? Then it was $ 15 for the tiniest portion ever. I’m disgusted. Bad experience all the way around.

Beautiful presentation and the steak was amazing! We had the crab cake appetizer which was wonderful and different.(It was served with small slices of orange) I highly recommend getting in early as they get busy fast and you want a table closer to the windows for the view.

This is one of those restaurants that just scream«we are for wealthy people!» Heavy, dark, wood furniture. Old magazines. Dim lighting. It’s all very beautiful, but every time I go to a place like this, I know that I’m about to over-pay for good but not great food. Pretty much spot on here. Wife and I ordered 3 — 4 appetizers plus drinks. The pork with mashed sweet potatoes dish was interesting and original, but the rest was utterly forgettable, especially for the price paid. It’s tough to visit hotel restaurants when you live in a food mecca like Portland. We’re used to great food at reasonable prices. Since Salishan’s Dining Room is good food at expensive prices, I give it three stars.

Dirty dishes, baby back ribs was too salty and had weird spices. Staff was the best part. They always made sure you were okay. Snowflake was very good.

The meals here were truely fantastic. The prices are indicative of a very fine upscale restaurant, and to this point, I have not been disappointed. Whether it was a perfectly prepared rib eye, or a seafood chopinno, the food is amazing. If you happen to be a fan of oysters, try the oysters rockafellar. They are dreamy! Can a dude say that…
