The Glen Club

My review is for the restaurant only. I’ve been here a few times for lunch and have had several items on the menu. The food is average at best. Nice menu with a selection of typical bar appetizers, salads, burgers and a half dozen entrees. Nothing stands out but nothing is horribly bad either. The main attraction here is the bar and dining room with the views of the lovely golf course. Also the service is excellent. I like the draft beer selection and they use Zing Zang for their bloody marys, one of my favs.
Valet parking is usually available but wasn’t on my last visit.

The Glen Club was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. The entire evening went flawlessly, and not to mention the food was great. Isabella is a professional who is very good at her job, and she made sure that our special night was everything we wanted.

I went here couple weeks and it is very nice. And is the only grass for miles besides the willow hill. But it is very expensive. You only get about 50 balls for 10 bucks or 7 dollars and 50 cents if you are a member. That is not a lot. You get 150 balls at willamette for 14 dollars or 12 dollars if you have the key tag.

For the course itself it is a 4 – 5 star rating. Certainly is not cheap but the course is very nice. Only above average golfers should really come out here.
Had good and bad experiences though on the «service» side as the people in the pro shop were very nice and helpful. The negative was with the rangers of which mainly one was just a jerk. In each cart on the GPS machine is a timer of whether you are on pace or not. We were about 2 – 3 minutes behind pace for the first 7 – 8 holes on the course, which is basically nothing. All of a sudden, the people behind us get to within 1.5 shots of us (which people are supposed to be 1 shot behind) and the ranger is waiting for us at the next tee box. He says «You guys are 7 minutes behind pace and you’re holding up everyone behind you». It wasn’t said in a nice way either. I play golf a lot and worked at a golf course for 6 or 7 years growing up, so I know how these things work, and I’m sorry, but the ranger was an asshole and what he said was total bullshit. Just to placate him, we played even faster and lo and behold we literally did not see the group behind us the entire rest of the round. It was extremely unfortunate, because it pissed me off for the rest of the round for what otherwise was a great day. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and give 4 stars and assume this was an isolated incident.

This is a great place to grab a well-​built tasty sandwich or even a fine dining type entrée.
The restaurant has warm wood tones and a large bar with TVs. The outdoor patio is fantastic as it has great views of the approach to the 18^th green. Be forewarned that even if it’s warm outside the patio is cool because of the slightly southeast facing location which means the sun is generally not hitting you unless you are here at lunchtime.
The menu has a nice mix of appetizers, soups, large salads, burgers and sandwiches and then normal upscale type entrées.
The one item I did not trying to be a good value were the shrimp tacos on the appetizer menu three tacos for $ 12.95.
The spicy shrimp salad had about 12 large shrimp with the crispy better and a fresh salad mix.
The Cabernet glazed burger had nicely sautéed mushrooms and onions and a deep red wine glaze. The Sicilian burger was chock full of roasted red peppers.
The homemade potato chips they give you for free when you sit down are a nice treat with a retro 1970s French onion soup dip.
The french fries both regular and sweet potato are always fantastic here.
If you order a scoop of ice cream for dessert they bring you a small bowl with three scoops!
Sometimes service can be a little spotty, our waitress left our dirty dishes on the table after she took our dessert order.
It’s a nice day and you want to sit outside this place is highly recommended.

Played with a friend who knows a member. Practice facilities are a little below average for a private club. Clubhouse is beautiful. And the bathrooms… I digress.
Priced about right for a guest. Course was in beautiful shape. Greens are real fast. Tall fescue borders many fairways. You can lose a lot of balls that trickle 5 feet into this stuff. Holes are varied and interesting. Big hitters can drive through a couple fairways so make sure you ask the member on each hole about it. Weather is perfect that day with little wind. Nobody in front of us combined to make the experience great. Can’t wait to go back.

Our June 2014 wedding reception at The Glen Club was absolute perfection. One of the biggest reasons we chose The Glen Club was their AMAZING catering director, Isabella, who was incredibly great to work with. Her organization, quick responses to questions, and overall ability to keep all of the details in line was really appreciated by us during our wedding planning process. The Glen Club took care of pretty much everything having to do with the reception (cake was included, linens/​chairs/​tables, etc.) making it a very simple one stop shop for us.
Our reception was perfect from start to end. The food was fantastic (we received many compliments from guests on this!) and everyone enjoyed the private feel of the venue (there’s only one ballroom, so no other events happening at the same time as yours). The true bonus was the 21 guest rooms on the top floor of The Glen Club which our family and bridal party took over… allowing us to have an ‘after party’ with our nearest and dearest until almost 3 a.m.
Our entire wedding day was perfect and we have Isabella and The Glen Club to thank for so much of it. We could not recommend The Glen Club more!

My first time here was last month, when I attended a luncheon here for Glenbrook Hospital volunteers. The room was beautiful. We were served a great tomato type soup, roast beef with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and a dessert. Service was great.
Tried to come back the following week for lunch at the Grill (open to the public) but the noise level was so high we left before being seated. Will try again at a non-​peak time.

Great course… challenging and fun. Have played there enough times to understand how to play it.
The staff there, in my opinion, is consistent with the course, from the front end, to the restaurant, the beverage carts, to the starters and rangers.
Yes, they take pace of play there somewhat seriously, but they should.
I’ve found the rangers to very helpful and communicative. They actually help.
The starters, and I’ve only seen a few are REALLY helpful, especially the one guy… bald guy, «Joe» I think his name is was Very Informative and kinda’ funny too. And how he described the course and pace expectations was spot on.
The food was also very good.
I really like this course and yes… YES…it is worth the money !

***This review is for our wedding ceremony & reception.***
But before I get into that… Isabella, like everyone else has already mentioned, was basically my right hand woman and deserves this first nod. She is the director of catering at TGC, but she goes above and beyond. I asked her a gazillion questions via email and phone, and I really liked all the options she told me of things she’s seen at other weddings. I really needed that kind of advice because I didn’t hire a wedding planner and was oftentimes overwhelmed. She is extremely detail oriented and always responds in a professional and timely manner. This was very much appreciated as I had a handful of other vendors to deal with during my wedding planning process, and some we’re lacking in communication. Then on our wedding day, she was behind the scenes and making sure things were in place as we discussed, and she stayed until everything was cleaned up and taken away! Well past midnight. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about my experience with Isabella!
Now onto the rest…
LOCATION & DECOR
We chose TGC because it served as our ceremony site, reception site, and hotel all in one! (Most people don’t know that there are 20 or 21 guest rooms on the 2^nd floor!) It’s also situated on an award winning golf course with great landscaping (we did our bridal pictures here), has modern interior décor (~10 years old?), and the ballroom has gorgeous tall ceilings & windows. When I was researching venues, I realized that windows were strangely really important for me…
SETUP
Our ceremony & cocktail hour were on two different outdoor patios (weather permitting), but there was also an indoor option for both. The staff set up white chairs for our ceremony, and there were patio tables & chairs already on the terrace for the cocktail hour. I had my florist decorate both patios with flowers, and my DJ was able to plug in and do his thing at both sites too. The existing chairs for the ballroom are an ugly brown fabric, though, so you will need to rent chair covers or rent entirely new chairs (like I did) if you’re going for a particular look.
RECEPTION — FOOD & PRICE
Although the ballroom can fit around 200 guests, it felt most comfortable to us at around 150 guests. TGC has an on-​site restaurant & kitchen, so we were already pretty confident about the food. We were kind of modify our courses during our food tasting, and I was really happy with my meal the day of our wedding and would give the food ⁴⁄₅ stars. The desserts on our sweet table, though, were a little disappointing in both appearance and taste.
I researched ~10 country clubs and hotels in the north suburbs, and TGC was on the high end of the price range with tax & service but not the most expensive. However, I liked it so much more than the other places (because of convenience & décor), so it wasn’t a difficult decision for us. A bonus is that you can make multiple payments — on credit card too! (For you «points» people, the category shows up as «restaurant»!)
HOTEL
There is only one suite, and it is huge. We had some friends stay after the wedding and continue partying with us in our bridal suite and easily fit 10 people out on the balcony & in our room. There is an overnight attendant too in case my friends needed to book a room at the last minute or if we needed ice from the restaurant (no ice machines).

My daughter’s wedding was here recently and everything was wonderful! The ceremony was outside and was lovely! Isabella, the catering director, was the best!
We were so happy that we had her to help us and that the wedding was at The Glen Club!

Our Wedding & Reception was at the Glen Club yesterday. The event space (Ballroom & Outdoor terrace/​garden) is lovely. The food and service during the reception was terrific. Isabella Vizzini, the Catering Director at the Glen Club is a delight to work with and extremely knowledgeable. We are thrilled that we chose the Glen Club. We could not have asked for a better day!

The driving range is nice and the range balls are titelist NXT’s. I love to play this course when I have a chance. I have played here for the past few years and am never disappointed. The fairways are not to challenging if you hit the ball straight so try to stay out of the tall stuff.

This review is only for the restaurant at the Glen Club. I ate here for dinner recently with my boss, who was staying at the hotel. The restaurant was populated with golfers (no surprise there) and looked like it was in a country club (also no surprise). Despite the fact that it wasn’t very crowded, it took quite a while for us to get seated. The host or hostess was nowhere to be found, so someone who appeared to be a server eventually seated us.
They brought a generous serving of bread, which we were grateful to get since we were starving. I ordered the penne with chicken, which came with a choice of soup or salad. I opted for the salad, which was pretty tasty and fairly large. The main dish was rather disappointing, however. Despite the fact that it was loaded with garlic, it was still somehow bland. You certainly get your money’s worth, though. The portion sizes are easily enough for two meals.
Overall, I feel like this is an average restaurant. If you’re staying here or happen to be nearby, it’s a satisfactory choice, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again.

Great place for lunch! Salads are outstanding and one is enough for two and they will split one for you at no additional charge. love the chips & dip provided gratis as well. Be sure to bring a sweater because they keep the air on «arctic.» Will be returning.

I was at the Glen Club for a corporate meeting. The «ballroom» was fine, very spacious, but kept very cold. There are not enough outlets for people to plug in their laptops, but we were told that ahead of time.
The staff was courteous, but not overly friendly. The girl at the front desk seemed annoyed that I asked her more than one question.
We were there for a social media meeting, and told to bring our laptops or iPads (with the caviat that they should be charged, due to lack of outlets.) However, the wireless internet provided was completely spotty, and we were unable to use it for about half of the meeting. Defeats the purpose.
I can’t really review anything else as food was not provided. The coffee was standard.

I do not play golf, so this is a review more for the Club’s event planning with Isabella Vizzini.
My husband and I had our wedding reception at The Glen Club on August 20, 2011, and from start to finish, it was the easiest, most wonderful part of planning our wedding day. Isabella is the most organized, tactful, approachable, and detail-​oriented person I have EVER had the pleasure of meeting or working with, and she did everything to make sure our most important day unfolded flawlessly. She surpassed our every expectation beyond what we could have imagined!
The venue itself is gorgeous — the indoor and outdoor combination along with the obviously impeccable upkeep and sheer level of care for the premises (Isabella herself cleared foliage we encountered on a brick path and notified staff immediately when there was a bird on the ground that had obviously flown into one of the perfectly clear windows) make the Glen Club a choice you can’t go wrong with. The food we chose was delicious, and our guests raved about it all day, the day after, and even when we got back from our honeymoon!
The small, unpredictable things that did go wrong (an extra guest arriving, some seat changing, a cake topper needing to placed on top of a cake that already had top decoration from the baker) was quickly, efficiently, professionally, and perfectly addressed by Isabella. I cannot imagine the level of thought, planning, scrutiny, care, and effort that goes into doing her job, but my husband and I have no doubt whatsoever that Isabella is the by far the right person to do it.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you! If you are considering the Glen Club as your wedding venue, as long as Isabella is the one handling it, I would not hesitate for a minute!

I had my wedding here three weeks ago.
First, let me say Isabella is a dream come true. Glen Club management, if you are reading this, give that lady a raise! She is the most professional, organized, event planner on the north shore — and she know her business. I work in the industry myself so I have a true appreciation for the amount of knowledge and grasp of the role she really has. I was in an absolute panic the week of my wedding because I was afraid to let go and be a guest for a change. Isabella assured me that she would make everything perfect. She is fully dedicated and present at your wedding, as though you were the only bride ever to have a wedding there — which is definitely not the case. She will not let one thing go wrong on your day. She has the staff down to a science. Everyone hates to go to a wedding and sit twiddling their thumbs — this won’t happen. Service is prompt and friendly — seamless.
Now, for the Glen Club. It was an incredibly rainy weekend but we were fortunate to see the sun peek through the clouds long enough to have a beautiful ceremony and cocktail hour outdoors. We wanted a wedding that was classy, simple, elegant and seamless, and we got it. The setting is beautiful and understated. The ballroom is a beautiful backdrop for the evening, done in champagne with high ceilings. We had 110 people and the room was perfect. I believe 150 would be comfortable as well. (Any more might be tight.) Our guests raved about the space and the impeccable service.
If you are looking for a crazy, fancy, over the top wedding, this is not your place. If you are looking for a back-​yard buffet and beer keg wedding, also not your place. But, if you want a classy wedding in the wedding garden followed by elegant cocktails over the golf course and a well-​executed, «simple elegance» reception, book the Glen Club.

We just had our wedding here and we could not have been happier. The first thing I must say: Isabella, the Catering Director, is worth every penny. She is always reachable by email or phone, beyond organized and detail-​oriented and made our whole experience a joy. Planning a wedding was so stressful, especially with no coordinator, and knowing that Isabella was in charge once we got to The Glen Club made our day stress-​free… well as stress-​free as getting married can be ;).
The room is beautiful with windows everywhere and they did a great job setting up the room for both our ceremony and reception. We had 120 people with a dance floor and a DJ and it was cozy, which we wanted. All of the staff working the event from the director of food and beverages, to the bartender to the servers were so friendly and helpful. The food was great and every plate was cleaned when I walked around. It was a perfect day and The Glen Club was the perfect place to have our wedding.
