If you’re looking for a restaurant for a sit down dinner go somewhere else. This place is definitely a bar that serves a full menu. We were visiting from out of town and thrown off by this spot being categorized as an Italian restaurant. Because we were in a bar, we ordered bar food — burgers and french onion soup, and a salad. Burger’s were ok but the french onion soup was extremely salty. Cons: bad experience — food /service extremely slow — took over an hour to get our food after we ordered and we were one of two groups total!

I’ve been to Gianna’s a half a dozen times now so I feel compelled to write a very positive review. The star of the menu at Gianna’s is definitely the pizza, which has a brick oven feel to it, a good crust and lots of varieties of toppings. Their salads are also large and filling! I also recommend Gianna’s for a great beer selection, including many NY craft brewers and the frequency of great live music and trivia events on a weekly basis. My only complaint is that sometimes the service can be slow and the bartender will short you on your 16 oz. pour if you don’t call him or her out on it!

With amazing knots, pizza, and wings and 20 beers on tap, Gianna’s is officially my favorite nighttime establishment in the Glove Cities region. While some people choose to invest in stocks and bonds for their golden years, one of the the best investments that I’ve ever made is joining Gianna’s mug club. You pay $ 20 to join and then are tasked with trying 60 different beers from a punch card over the next six months(which budgets out to two each week when you go for trivia and wings). If you complete this challenge, you are handsomely rewarded with your own custom mug, engraved with your name. It’s a bit bigger than a pint glass, but you only pay the pint price… who needs a 401(k) when you can invest in draft savings? Seriously though, the selection of taps is unrivaled in the area and includes Utica Club, a great, regionally-made pilsner that was the first beer brewed in America after Prohibition and the selection of food offerings is no less impressive. Though they have pasta, huge grinders, and a number of specialty burgers, I’ve never made it past their selection of specialty wings and huge gourmet pizzas. Tuesdays are a great night for pizza because Gianna’s offers«two for Tuesday,» where, if you get a two topping or gourmet large pizza, you’ll get a free large cheese pizza for free. Mondays are not a great night, because they are closed. Also, don’t forget to ask for some garlic knots for your table. They are rich in garlic taste without being overpowering.
