Fish an chips are great. The crap cocktail was outstanding. Blackberry pie is delicious. Friendly fast service.

We were getting gas as we passed through and asked the gas station attendant where we could get the best fish and chips in the town. I mean, we were in a coastal town and you could smell the sweet scent of the ocean. We had to have fish and chips. He recommend us here and we are very glad he did. First off, be informed that this is a rather old school place with the smell of the deep fat fryer hitting you in the face as you walked in and the waitress looking like she had been there for 20 years but everything was clean and super friendly. The owner greets every single person and checks them out so that he can ask them how their meal was. Ours was memorable. Both hubby and the mom got fish and chips and I got the chipotle fish sandwich with sweet potato fries and a side salad. Everything was fresh and delicious but my sandwich stole the show. The hubby kept trying to steal it and I had to beat him off with sweet potato fries. We got pie afterwards and it was total meh. Skip the pie get the chipotle fish sandwich. Heaven.

We came here for lunch — it’s really a 3 – 3.5 star place, but I am rating it a 4 because it was CLEAN! Restrooms clean, tables clean, menus clean… Not typical for an ocean side establishment. The food did taste good, and fresh, but wasn’t GREAT. We will go there again next time we are in town. The only thing is that I thought we were charged higher prices than the menu said, but my husband thought I read it wrong… So please pay attention when you go there.

Was worried that it wasn’t going to be a good experience cause it’s not very kid friendly for us. Very busy but actually had a good time. I had the teriyaki burger… AMAZING. I truly love this burger — so yummy. Would devour another one without evening thinking. Others had a rueben(shared between two) and out kid had the burlesque(fancy word for chicken strips). One loved the rueben the other thought it needed more sauerkraut — still though it was good! Got Ann ice tea… HUGE. You’re money is worth that cup size. LoL. If I wasn’t a tourist I would totally go back! Service was efficient and not rude but no time to talk with our server(not complaining at all, all of them were super busy and kicking butt).

We went to The Porthole because Ireland’s Rustic Lodges recommended their desserts. This is a busy restaurant adjacent to the dock and a fish market, with lots of local folks and tourists, not fancy or trendy. We wanted more blackberry pie so we just kept coming back! Embarrassingly every day this week. For a couple of California foodies it was a fun experience visit a place with good soups, and fresh, fresh fish. You would never see fresh snapper of these portions in SF. In our hometown no way. As for the pie we got 2 of the last three pieces today. I hope they stock up so we can have two slices for the drive home.

Decent fish and chips but horrible, razor clams. Clams were allegedly ‘lightly breaded and sautéed’. Gobs of greasy batter and unrecognizable tasteless and textureless clam material underneath. Very high prices($ 16 for a small portion of cod fish and chips). I would have given this place one star, except that the fish was decent. This is what you get when starving and desperate on the PCH. :-(

We were in town for a memorial service and one of our grouo made arrangements for us to have dinner here. For a group this size(18), the service was amazing. We ended up having to split the group and sit at two tables, but it worked well. The food was okay. Not bad, not stellar, but to be fair, i wasn’t hugely hungry. There were a number of orders of razor clams at our table and all were reported to be more breading than clam, but tasty nonetheless. The fish and chips were reportedly dry and appeared to be a pre-frozen product, which when you can see the ocean out the window is disappointing. The crab cocktail and crab sandwich both got excellent reviews. I don’t know that i would go out of my way to eat here again, but I would return.

Cute little restaurant next to a fish cannery. We sat down at a booth and the waitress was right there to take our order. She was fast. I ordered a portabella burger with fries and my hubby had the garden burger with fries. Burgers were ok, fries were hot. Service was great. AS the rating shows… It was A-OK.

Decided to take a random trip to the Coast, by the time I got here everything was closed(it was only 7PM) I drove around and stumbled upon The Port Hole Café, it was fate! The staff was awesome and the food is fan-freakin’-tastic!!! You really feel like family while you’re there. I had the seafood platter and wanted a taste of the local brews so I washed it down with a «State of Jefferson Porter» If you find yourself in Gold Beach, OR make sure you make this one of your first stops

We were pleasantly surprised with Port Hole Café. We tried the cup of clam chowder and fried oysters platter. The clam chowder was good and quite filling so I’m glad we shared it. The fried oysters platter came with a lot of food and again I’m glad we shared. The food was good and it was nice to be near the water and be able to see the sunset. Overall nothing very special but this place has a nice American vibe.

I’ll never know what Woggy’s van would have offered, but I can bet it wouldn’t have involved blackberry pie. Because overall this place got four stars, I’ll do a quick rundown of what I noticed that was bad. Right up front, for the owners, if they’re reading: 1) I watched waitresses microwave chowder to heat it. Microwaving should never happen at a restaurant. Keep your chowder hot. 2) I watched a waitress grab croutons by hand to put on the salad. I didn’t say anything, but I very well could/should have. Get a scoop. Hands should never touch patrons’ food. I «started» with the oyster stew. That’s in quotes because it arrived with my main dish, after the salad(generously sized, but no tomatoes). I’ll note that my waitress apologized with free ice cream on my pie, which is more than fine with me. The stew is delicious, but a bit on the thin side for my taste. Yours may differ. I didn’t downgrade because I am a day removed from a conversation with my aunt and uncle about how they like a less creamy chowder, so they probably would have loved this. I’ll note that the stew comes with 4 – 5 whole oysters. It would be more useful to have them cut into 12 – 15 bite sized pieces for the purpose of eating stew with a spoon instead of a fork and knife(or to hold an oyster in my mouth and slowly bite off pieces with each soup spoonful, as I did). My meal was the daily special, fresh razor clams. They’re like clam strips on steroids, and fresh.(Each one was the size of a small fish fillet.) Would rather have not had them breaded and fried, but I knew it before I ordered. The vegetables were supposed to be carrots, squash, and broccoli, but ended up 95% carrots. That is also fine by me, but I did find it slightly odd. I got a free side of gravy for my fries, so bonus on that. As for drinks, I started with an Arch Rock State of Jefferson porter, then went to a Widmer Drop Head amber. They were both superb. I love how great the beer is in the Pacific Northwest. I also love how there is a nice local selection at this café. If I had any doubt about the rating — I was sitting 3.5 stars heading into dessert — it was resolved by warm blackberry pie a la mode. Blackberries are far and away my favorite fruit, and I’m pretty sure the last time I was at a place that offered blackberry pie, they were out. Unfortunately, I could not bring a whole pie with me for the remaining days of my journey, but that cemented Port Hole as a great, reasonably priced stop. If you have a choice of places to stay around the CA/OR border, I recommend making Gold Beach your nightly destination and paying a visit here. They’re just a pair of faux pas from 5 stars.

I’ll give the Port Hole Café 4 stars for a small town eatery. The Port Hole is a quaint, quiet little spot located in a strip mall at the Port of Gold Beach. We ate here twice in a span of 3 days due to it being close to Jot’s(like anything in Gold Beach is a crazy distance away… right?) and having some decent burgers and fish. My first day here I decided on The Kobb. A large double cheeseburger, topped with cheese and honey cured bacon. This was a great Diner burger. A real tasty, messy, flavorful burger that was really good. After a long day of fishing, it hit the spot. The fries were good, crispy and golden. The beer selection is a little rough, and when I spotted a Ninkasi Total Domination, I ordered one on tap. Sadly, it was pretty flat. And it was flat each time we came here. I was hoping they would change it out, but that didn’t happen. I assume as craft beer grows its presence in small towns that the Coors and Bud Lights will slowly take a back seat. The other night we came here I ordered, «The Gold Digger» a large basket of golden brown Cod, deep fried to perfection. This was really good. They served up 3 large fillets coated in Panko and served with tartar sauce and fries. The fish was thick, and quite the generous serving. Tartar sauce was creamy and tangy, which was heavenly with my fries… one of my sinful habits. Service was really good. The waitresses were kind, and were good about getting us our food in a timely matter. I would like to explore other food options if I was to come down again, however the fish and chips are solid, and this is one dish I would return to the Port Hole to have instead of anywhere else.

Service is great. Waitress very kind and polite. The older hostess should try smiling when new people come in to eat. Had the the deep fried cod, vegetables and mashed potatoes. Not going to jump up and down but it was good. The good thing here is that they serve micro-beers by Arch Rock Brewery which is brewed here in Gold Beach. This is a café style environment. Food is average but will not keep me from returning.
