The only thing better then the service was the food. We had the Steer on a Roll and Trail Burger and they were fantastic. We will definitely come back here next time we are in town!

Very mediocre… more like 2 ½ stars but definitely not 3 so I rounded down. I’ve gone twice, and both times I was very unimpressed. Both times there was a wait so I feel like there is a loyal following for their lunch specials or just a lack of restaurants in this area. First time I had an Asian salad and it was not too bad honestly. Today I had a bison burger, and for $ 12, it was incredibly lackluster. I ordered it medium but it was very overdone and gamey, and was a small amount of meat to the bun ratio. Their other burgers looked good as far as meat to bun ratio, so maybe I made a bad choice. My side salad was crappy, an iceberg base with a ton of big inedible pieces of white lettuce that never should have made it in the bowl and a small amount of finely chopped veggies and croutons… definitely not worth it. Golden has a small handful of good restaurants, and this is not one of them.

Not a great atmosphere for family. Came with my boys for some food and a brew after their hockey game. Was seated in the main aisle which wouldn’t be bad if it wasn’t an extension of the bar. Nothing like people hover over you while you try to eat. Asses touching the table, almost lost a beverage with people passing. I don’t understand why they would allow that environment. In terms of food it was average. Had a trial burger, pulled pork Sammie and the chicken wings. Nothing special about their beer selection either. Standard stuff on tap I can get anywhere in America with the exception of Colorado native. Not impressed, will not be back.

So so. Slow service and $ 5.00 piece of pecan pie could have come from grocery store freezer.

I don’t like onions and I ate their onion rings. I know that’s not saying a lot but their onion rings were pretty good. Their portions are huge and the service was good as well. We came here after a tour of the Coors Factory and the place was really busy but we were able to grab seats anyways. Everyone seems to hate this restaurant based on the reviews but it seemed to be just your average american restaurant. Nothing to be super upset about. People are right about the service, which is why they received a four. It was hard trying to get our server but again, it was pretty busy.

Went for late lunch on Sat and were underwhelmed. We asked for kid sized root beers for our boys and got 2 full bottles, no cups. We had to remind the waitress they will need a cup, not a deal breaker just something that seemed obvious. The hot dog on the kids menu was huge, my boy had trouble just physically eating it. Server never asked for refills, we had to ask for ketchup, etc. Poor service and menu is overpriced for ordinary bar fried food. I would advise to skip this place.

I have to give it to these guys. It was the day after Christmas, one of three restaurants open, and PACKED with people with only two servers(one being the bartender). Yeah the food took a while, but they busted their tails to take care of everyone the fastest they could. The food was decent and the beer was cold. I think a 3.5 star rating isn’t fair because it almost made us choose somewhere else and I’m glad we didn’t. Hats off to you Capitol crew!

Came by after The Coors Brewery Tour… Happy hour everyday. Yes please! It was nice to read about the history of the busing and surrounding location. Staff was nice but definitely keeps their distance. You will see them when you are seated, once for drink and food and then your food and check are delivered. It really allowed us to people watch. Food was edible nothing spectacular but affordable.

Even Robert Irvine with Restaurant Impossible might not be able to help this place! It is definitely a tourist trap. Great location on the main street of the beautiful town of Golden, Colorado. And the location is probably the only thing that keeps this place in business. The food is terrible — tasteless, under seasoned — gravy and chili that both tasted like they were out of a can, meatloaf with rock hard edges. The staff is untrained and unmonitored. We waited for a long time to order food, then when we did, the waiter got it wrong. We asked for basics like water, and frustratingly never received it. Bartender is completely clueless as to how make or offer up a warm drink. How does a business like this stay in business? That’s right! There is always fresh suckers coming into town. I’d avoid highly and go to some of the other great restaurants right next to this place. If you’re in a group — just say«I’d prefer another place.»

I had a burger and fries here while in town a few weeks ago. The food was good, beer was cold, and the service was good. The bathrooms were clean and everyone who work here are friendly. We sat out on the patio next to the sidewalk and got to see the people walk by. It is a great place to sit and have a beer while watching people. If you are in town then stop by.

Such potential for a great sports bar The set is perfect for this but instead we looked at sports jerseys over the bar where there should be large TVs Mediocre food — but great service by our wait staff. All could be so much better with a little effort. Also felt like a shrine to Coors brewery in there. Make them buy you motor TVs and a better menu We will not be returning

Location is great. Bar is nice. Back dining section feels like someone’s weird old living room. Beer selection is weak. Prices are normal. Food is decent, unmemorable. I think the place thrives off tourists wandering in, as it’s got one of the best pieces of real estate in Golden, in the historical capitol building, with a cool sign. That’s how I first ended up in there at least.

We stopped in Golden to walk around and get some dinner before a concert at Red Rocks. After walking around for a while we decided on the Old Capitol Grill because the menu wasn’t too fancy and there was a bit of a wait so we figured it must be popular. We waited for about 10 minutes or so with several other people just to be acknowledged at the door so we could put our names on the list. The quoted wait was just about right once we were called though. Once seated, the waitress arrived immediately to greet us and get our drink orders. She brought the drinks and said she’d give us another couple of minutes to decide on dinner. About 10 minutes later she was back for our orders. My husband had onion soup and a BLT. I got clam chowder and a Caesar salad. She dropped the soups rather quickly without a word. They were both totally bland. The texas toast was good though. After we finished those we had to wait about 15 minutes for our sandwich and salad. Again, she dropped them without a word and without any eye contact. I was obvious that the kitchen was behind and she was stressed out. The sandwich didn’t have much meat to it and was dry. The salad was also dry and the dressing not very flavorful. The croutons, however, were delicious.(So, if you just want bread and croutons, you’re good.) The nachos did look good so we probably should have had those. This might be a good place for happy hour with nachos. We waited another long time to get our check and barely made it to our concert. Bad experience overall.

I too am a Unilocal elite and I stand by my review of this place. We tried it again just be fair. Sadly, the food is still average and below what other restaurants in Golden serve. It’s a great place to sit outside, grab a Coors and people watch. But eat elsewhere! I added a star for location and ambiance.

If there was a half star option, I would have awarded Capital Grill that. My friends and I put our name on the list around 1:30 in the afternoon. We had just finished hiking and were starving. There were 7 of us and a dog, so I know we were in for a wait for an outside table. However, for over 50 minutes, we watched the poorly trained hostess break up pairs of tables that could have accommodated us, seating others who put their names in 20 minutes after we arrived. When we finally were seated, our waitress took our drink orders 10 minutes later. We placed our drink and food orders together. Another 10 minutes to get our drinks, and over 30 to get our food. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries, as it’s a pretty safe option. Zoom in closely to my mayo, you can see a hair on top. I discreetly asked the waitress to bring another mayo and she looked at the cup I handed her. No apologies or disgust, she just said ‘okay.’ When another round of drinks came and I reminded her of the mayo, she said ‘oh well I had to ring it into the kitchen.’ Ring it into the kitchen? Go to the cook, tell him there was hair in the food and get another cup of mayo! I guarantee you they were not whipping eggs for fresh mayo, so what was the holdup?! When the next cup of mayo did come out, my burger was gone. Unbelievably, I looked in the cup and there was an indistinguishable mass in it. What is wrong with just mayo?! When it came time to pay(tack on additional increments of 10 minutes), there was an issue running the cards because ‘the manager is just really really busy.’ If we hadn’t heard this excuse used at 2 other tables, I would have believed it. That manager needs to come out of the office and take inventory of this restaurant. As a nice follow up, at least 3 in our party had issues later on. I can only imagine what was growing on our food that made us so sick. We will not be returning next time we are in Denver. Awful service and stomach churning food aren’t worth the wait.

Hates gonna hate? My fiancé and I sat down and ordered before checking this place on Unilocal, and had it not worked out that way we definitely wouldn’t have stopped. Capitol Grill has some awful reviews and in my opinion they are most unwarranted. While I wouldn’t say there was anything that absolutely wow’ed me, I definitely do not understand where all the complaints came from. Old Capitol Grill has some darn decent food and the portions are a-plenty. I had the trail burger which is slathered in BBQ and 1000 island dressing! It was probably only 1000 calories per bite. My fiancé ordered the meatloaf with the au gratin potatoes. The loaf was good… The potatoes not so much, but everything can’t be a winner. We got the half nacho plate for a starter which was a mistake because everything was so large in size I couldn’t finish my burger. But, make no mistake this historic location serves up a good meal. The last two complaints I read were about poor service and a dirty establishment. Again, neither of these issues were a part of our experience. Our waitress Jessica was super amazing and attentive! The restaurant was clean and pleasant. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting historic Golden Colorado. I started with«haters gonna hate» because I can’t for the life of me understand what the lack of love for this establishment is all about. So don’t listen to those people, listen to an Elite 15′… Uh, that would be me.

Meh. I don’t really have much to say. They have cheap coors light. But you’re in golden so I would hope that’s the case. Food is ok, I was just more wondering the cleanliness of where it came from. This isn’t the worst place you can go, but there are plenty of other places in golden to eat that are better!

We stopped in for lunch while visiting Golden. It’s a simple menu but a very cool setting. There is great history here. The beer was fresh! I had a chicken salad sandwich. It was delicious and served with good fries and the smallest Apple I have ever seen. The wait staff was very friendly. This place is worth a try if you are in town!

Ugh — this place was nasty. It seems like it used to be good and then they stopped caring. Everything was dirty. The server didn’t give two sh*ts about our food or if we needed anything. We each ordered two types of tacos. My friend got chicken, which was gross and tasted like soap. My fish tacos came on flour tortillas despite asking for corn. When I asked again for corn, the server rolled her eyes(I sh*it you not) and they sloppily dumped the contents into raw corn tortillas and re-served it. In addition to the corn tortillas being raw and cold, the fish was cold and very dry, the cabbage was soggy and there wasn’t enough sauce to get it down. The best thing on the plate was the inexplicable apple that comes on every plate. The bill for two of us was over $ 40 for a lunch at which there was no alcohol. The whole plate probably cost $ 2 but they charged $ 17 for it. Smart, because for some reason that I can’t figure out, people still eat here. I had been here before and had a similar experience but thought it deserved a second chance. I was wrong. So so so very wrong. There are much better places that are much cheaper in the immediate area. Go there.

At first glance, Old Capitol Grill had promise. The menu was extensive, the décor kind of cool … but, sad to say, my review matches everyone else’s: m-e-d-I-o-c-r-e. I was with a large group of out-of-towners who ordered a variety of lunch items. Nobody raved, nobody complained(except the lady whose meal came 20 minutes after everyone else’s.) I was excited to see onion soup on the menu. I ordered it with a small salad. The soup tasted like my Jewish mother’s rendition: passable, but clearly not French. The salad was little more than iceberg lettuce.(One would think management would look at reviews, and jazz up their greens.) My friend’s pulled pork looked better than it tasted(so she said.) All in all, a forgettable meal. Not awful, but nothing to write home about.
