Worst place ever!!! I have never seen such a disorganized way to handle business. Waited over 1 hour watched people who got there after us get a lane. Customer service is horrible one of girls had attitude rolled her eyes when simply ask how long will it be. I’m from out of town this worst experience especially being a visitor in this city. Someone needs to check the management there and do some re hire for employee to laugh at your frustration because he got your name wrong and made you wait longer than the time he said. I would not recommend anyone to go here!

I’ve been here several times with many different groups. Overall the atmosphere is what you’d expect. The games in the arcade steal your money and the staff doesn’t care, or even bother to put a sign up. For this reason, I say don’t take kids here. The staff is very rude, especially the older lady who I believe is the manager. She would not put bumpers up for an 8 year old in my group. She said that the kid was just too tall. The weekends here are a huge mess, as expected. I would come back under the right circumstances. i. e without kids and on a weekday. I really wish someone would put up a nice bowling alley.

I hate this place. I would not recommend having a bithday party here. The employees were rude and rushed us and when we needed something they were nowhere to be found. Also very expensive for the party. I would not recommend it.

Lanes are always oiled. Customer service is great. Full bar is available with drink specials. Ladies night is Tuesday with half price wings. Great place to bowl in Charleston

I bowled here regularly. Most of the staff is wonderful but the owner is very disrespectful. When he took over a few years ago he did put a lot of money into the bowling alley to make improvements but those improvements mean nothing when you can not bowl there comfortably because it was extremely hot. When I asked if he could adjust the temperature I was told I was the only one that was hot. People brought their own fans in with them to try to stay cool. I left dripping sweat every sunday. He was disrespectful to me on more than one occasion over the same thing. I was told the air was on 72 and he wasn’t adjusting it. I now bowl at Sandpiper on Sunday nights and can’t be happier. ALSO, in order to use your debit card you have to spend at least 10 dollars. Is that a way to try to be more profitable? It’s 2015… just saying. I know it cost more money to run a card but I am sure he is saving that money on his electric bill.

Would have given a five but they make you spend $ 10 before you can use a debit card. This is 2014 right? Do like I do and put the swipe fee into the overall cost of each item; otherwise you will lose money because people will just not buy anything like I did not.

I’ve been going to Royal Z lanes for many, many years… I know we went in high school… so 26+ years. There has been a welcome cosmetic redo of the place — new carpeting and rebuild of the arcade and the pro shop. Many new balls, although finding ones with large finger holes can be difficult unless you get a really heavy ball.(Can’t help having fat fingers.) :( Royal Z is the only lanes in Charleston that participates in Kids Bowl Free, the summer program where kids under 15 can bowl two games for free a day. I used to take my kids there all the time before they aged out. Hint: buy your kids a pair of bowling shoes @ $ 35 from a local sporting goods store instead of renting at $ 3.50 a pop… if they bowl ten times their shoes are paid for. You can also trade with other moms as kids’ feet grow. I usually get a bite to eat when we go – word of advice: place your food order as soon as you get there, before you go to your lane or put your shoes on. The service is very very verrrrry slow. If I order a pizza, four of us can play a complete game before they call our name to pick it up. The pizza is pretty good, hot, cheesy, and the crust is moderately thick. Almost every time I go I get a basket of fries because they are that good! You get a large basket of crinkle cuts, hot and crispy and just a little salty. Super tasty. There are sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos, etc. If you want drinks for the kiddos your best bet is to buy a pitcher of soda instead of individual ones. A full bar is on-site, too. The place can get VERY busy on weekends. especially if there is a birthday party. Weekday mornings are full of league bowlers, but there are usually a couple available for open bowling.

Clean, have improved on ball selection since last time I went several years ago… Easy to set up games, players… lanes r well-maintained…they had 99cent games until 1 pm on Sunday if you have patience for families with small children who might be surrounding you… dropping balls, stepping into ur lane, lol. Not too bad though… seems they have come out with a new gadget for children to place their balls on and the ball quietly rolls downward to the lane and down the lane… Overall good family entertainment and decent food/drink bar.
