This place used to be decent, but lately the service is horrible. Unsanitary is only the beginning. A few days ago I ordered Sashimi and two rolls of sushi. The spicy tuna in the rolls looked like rotten meat, and the sashimi wreaked of bad fish. When I arrived to pick up my order, an older Asian lady handed me a take home tray with warm sushi and sashimi. She had the order sitting at the door for over 30 minutes, and it was about 95 degrees out that day. I ate a piece of sashimi that looked pretty decent because I didn’t want to make a scene and three days later, I’m sicker than I have ever been. Watery stools, I use the restroom about every 5 minutes and that’s not an exaggeration. Avoid this place at all costs.

I love Sushi 101. My husband and I eat here every time we’re in Goose Creek and we’ve never had a bad experience. They are always so prompt and continue to ensure our cups are always full. I ordered their chicken Katsu and was a little surprised that it was a little light(small piece of chicken) and a scoop of rice. My husband ordered the ramen and liked it. He also ordered the steak(mind you, he’s really picky about his meat) and he LOVED it. They cooked it to a medium as he wanted. Our waitress was polite and engaged in friendly conversation with us as our food was being prepared. If you want some Asian sensation or simply a roll of sushi, stop by Sushi 101 and grab a bite to eat.

Great sushi for decent prices! Great deals at lunch and amazing hibachi at dinner. The waiters are very nice and have suggestions for eating if you aren’t sure what you want to eat.

So, I am torn. I am a Locals die-hard fan and I will never look at another roll of sushi the way I look at one from Locals. Sushi 101 has a lot to offer on their menu — their onion soup and the chicken hibachi are yummy. I had the beef tataki appetizer(which I love at most other places) and it just wasn’t for me. The meat pieces were pretty thick and it made it hard to enjoy since my mouth was full. The flavors in the sushi(charleston roll and crunch roll) were good but sort of blended together — nothing really stuck out. Part of this could be that they are sort of plain rolls, but even a plain roll should burst with flavor! I also started with the wontons and while I appreciate that they were huge and stuffed full, the very insides were still cold(I suspect that they didn’t want to burn the shells). I would have rather had less filling that was all deliciously piping hot. Our waiter seriously was amazing. He was super attentive but not in that annoying way. He made sure our drinks were topped off for the entire meal and gave us little updates on when to expect food. I would definitely come back for the service, chicken hibachi, and onion soup but I’m just not sure about the actual sushi here.

So, I always track down sushi everywhere I go. I am not from here, but I can tell you that I will put this place on my «must eat at» list anytime I am here. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Priced right and our server was awesome. My daughter said, «she(our waitress) is the sweetest thing ever!» Yes we have a new place to love.

Really great chicken teriyaki and steak hibachi combo. Very good price and I love the veg and salad here ginger dressing very good. California roll was really fresh delicious and tempura shrimp roll. I am not a raw fish person so I can not speak to its taste but it was beautiful others seemed to enjoy. The prices are reasonable. Go try it ! Take out is great too !

Fantastic sushi. Great service. Can get busy even on week nights but worth the wait for fresh sushi in Goose Creek.

Love the food here. Especially the steak. I’m very picky about my meat and despise any kind of fat on my meat. I’ve never had any kind of fat on my meat at this place. Sushi is good as well.

I was so very excited to try this place for the first time yesterday… I ordered online while I was at work around 9pm… set the pick up time for 10:30 and anxiously waited to get off work to pick up my sushi… Oh forgot to mention I spent $ 49 and some change on all of the sushi. So me and my bf pick it up, get home, get ready to relax and eat and by now it is well after 11… upon trying the sushi I discovered an almost rancid flavor in what should have been the California rolls. I say what should have been due to the fact that instead of including cream cheese… all but 6 of my California rolls actually included cream cheese, the rest had extra avocado which I’m assuming was rancid due to the fact that I was very hurriedly spitting out most of the rolls that included avocado. Their salad rolls… or at least I’m assuming it was the salad rolls since nothing actually seemed to fit the online descriptions of what I had ordered, was an inedible mush surrounded by cucumber. Having decided that the food was inedible in general and not wanting to suffer another bite that would no doubt cause uncontrollable fits of gagging, I bagged the food, receipt and all and decided that I was going to return the food and request my money back. Around 5pm I got to the store and proceeded to explain to the nice lady at the door why I had come. Apologetically, she took the food and headed to speak to the manager on duty. After a moment of polite conversation with a male waiter she returned and asked if I wanted them to re fix the food… I was at first shocked and stressed that I was no longer interested in their food and simply wanted my money back. She seemed a bit confused and went back once more to talk to the manager. I then waited even longer for the manager to come out and asked me to re explain the situation, which I did with no hesitation. I had never been more enraged and disgusted with the treatment I then recieved. I was flat out told that my money would not be refunded because it has been 24hours. Appalled I explained that it was not 24 hours even since I placed the order so that excuse was beyond belligerent. He continued to argue and laugh at me, physically laughed in my face and continued to say they could not refund my money. He said that I should have called last night when the store was closed and argued over and over that it was my fault that I would not be getting a refund. My boyfriend and I were enraged and continued to ask what was so funny about us receiving rancid sushi. We demanded the store owner and were immediately told no and that the owner was out of town. We then demanded that he call the owner because I was still being told that I will not get refunded. After we gained the attention of everyone around us the manager told me that he would call the owner and have the money refunded by monday. Now I’m waiting to see if I need to take further action if my money is not refunded since they took the food and did not give it back before we left. I am not discouraging the overall food of this store, all I ever had was the sushi I ordered, but the treatment I recieved will make it so that I never try that restaurant again.

I’ve eaten here twice. Both times I was pleasantly surprised after initially reading other reviewers. I ordered the Hibachi Shrimp(fried rice) and house salad with Honey mustard dressing. Waitress was friendly and prompt. Salad arrived promptly. * 1st time I did see brown and whittled lettuce. A no-no for me.* However, this time, the salad was fine. The Hibachi Shrimp bowl was full. Enough for lunch and dinner. My other guests had Hibachi Chicken + Miso soup and Hibachi Steak + Onion soup. Both finished their bowls and only comment was the Miso soup was bland. I’m not sure but it looked like new staff were in place or maybe a different lunch crew from the last time I was in Sushi 101. I will eat there again. I actually considered eating there today for lunch but didn’t want the leftovers as I had other plans for dinner! Big bowls.

Wife got the steak and chicken and i got the hibachi steak and it dissapointed us. Chicken over cooked and steak quality is poor… asked if they have better filet but all they have is one type… shoulder meat. Spider roll ok nothing special. Food quality have dropped probably due to high food cost and high rent but come on… can’t cut corners like that! Used to be my local favorite now I have to look else where!

Sushi 101 looks like it’s going to be one of those places that might be super sketchy and might give you food poisoning and people who know about Sushi 101 want you to believe that… but it’s amazing. The prices are great and service is good, even though food delivery can sometimes be slow. Lunch specials are delicious. Favorite rolls are the Black Dragon, The Duffy, and The Nemo

I don’t know what’s going on with this place. My boyfriend used to rave about it when he worked nearby and When e took me(over a year ago), I liked it. My mom wanted to go here for her birthday because she of all she heard about it from him. We would have gone to o-ku but they are hella expensive and you have to see it to believe it when I tell you how much sushi the women in my family can consume. With high expectations and little hesitation, my mom, cousin, and I ordered away. We all did a lunch special, special roll and salad, plus 3 extra rolls that came out as an appetizer. I don’t remember all of them. They were just mehhh. It was the same satisfaction I get from eating grocery store sushi. Now I know lots of people love grocery store sushi, but for me personally, it’s always been a mildly regrettable decision. The tuna rolls were a little bit fishy. My mom told us to just pile on extra wasabi and ginger. Nothing masks fishy like the burn of horseradish. The specialty roll i ordered was the«half baked» described as «spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber wrapped in baked salmon sashimi wrap». I like, thought it would be sushi… Wrapped in cooked fish, right? I don’t know who had a bigger dumb blonde moment with this roll, me interpreting the description in my head and thinking it sounded good, the chef who invented this, or the writer of the menu who’s job it was to describe it and chose to put sashimi and baked in the same sentence. Like, one: sashimi means raw sliced fish sooo when you bake it, it’s no longer sashimi. Realizing this paradox could have saved me from ordering the most disgusting plate of my life. I’m sorry to be so dramatic, but ugh! The spicy tuna bits were also baked. The whole thing was baked! Baked avocado and cucumber? Shoot me. I knew it right away, half baked looked like the inside of a can of cat food. My cousin and mom encouraged me to try it, and it was exactly the taste and texture I ever imagined cat food would be! I ate one piece and wanted to exchange it, but it took 20 minutes for the waitress to come over. I didn’t replace the roll with anything else, after trying my mom’s and cousin’s rolls that were not very good to me, I felt too hopeless to get a replacement by the time the waitress came over, and my mom told me not to complain to the waitress.(I was kind of wanting to be like«send this plate of crap back to the kitchen and take it off the menu!!!») I took it home to my dog and even she poo-pooed it! I found out the next day that both my mom and cousin got sick and they asked if I got sick too. Thank goodness no. Why didn’t I? Maybe because I refused to mask the fishy sushi with extra ginger and wasabi?! I only tried one piece of each roll and I was fine, but those two ate their weight of sushi.

Excellent sushi! Just in case anyone has ever eaten Sushi anywhere else around Charleston, I’ll let you all in on a secret. Sushi 101 is owned by the same person as Tsunami.(For those of you that don’t know what this is, it is another Sushi/Hibachi resturant.) Guess what… it’s the EXACT same menu too. The place is a small resturant that looks like they tried to renovate it. Since it is Tsunami, the food is fantastic, if you want the same great food at a better atmosphere head to Tsunami, but if you don’t really care for atmosphere and just want great Sushi, eat here.

Nice sushi place with great choices. Love the Bento Box at Lunch(served until 3:30!!) and the Firecracker roll. I do not recommend the hibachi here, too much of some sort of flavoring that makes it all taste the same(IMHO). Good service, fast and efficient.

When Colleen and I originally ate here shortly after they opened, we weren’t too impressed. Fast forward probably a year+ later and I find mysel on that side of town for work, it’s lunch time, and the folks I’m working with suggest Sushi 101 as where we should go. Apparently they go there all the time and really like it… I’m still skeptical but agree to roll with. Well, let me tell you, Sushi 101 has definitely worked out all the kinks and they are DOINGIT now! Lunch was delicious, well priced, and well-portioned. I got the sushi lunch which let me pick three from a selection of rolls for about 10 – 12 $ Great price, because they included tuna and salmon instead of just the California rolls you might get at a more skimpy place. I was there with a party of about 10 that day, the service was excellent, and everyone left happy and full. Great success.

I lived in Japan for about two years, so any time I walk into a «Japanese» restaurant in the USA, I walk in with very low expectations. Last night I walked into Sushi 101 already prepared to hate it. This is Goose Creek, SC; it is not a town well-known for its sparkling array of excellent restaurants. We were greeted prompty, upon walking in, by a very friendly hostess and seated near the sushi bar towards the rear of the dining room. We ordered a pair of Kirin Ichibahns and looked over the menu. They had a very large selection of sushi and sashimi, a respectable starter menu and small section of «habachi» foods for those who don’t care for sushi. We ordered some edamame, a California roll, a cucumber roll, a rainbow roll, a dragon roll, a Charleston roll, and tuna tataki. The sushi was nice, but the rice could have used some seasoning. «SUSHI» in Japanese means«VINEGAREDRICE».Thus the rice itself is supposed to be seasoned wih salt, sugar, and a little vinegar. What we got seemed to be just plain steamed rice. So I have to take star away for that. On the whole though it was very good. The fish was fresh, and the rolls were tightly wrapped. The tuna tataki was the star of the show. There were 7 very generously large slices of tuna laid over a bed of cucumber and wakame seaweed salad. I was a little sad that they put shichimi powder on the tuna, as it was so fresh and lovely that the extra spice just detracted from its beauty. This, however, is a great failing of most Japanese places on the east coast. Less is definately more when dealing with beautiful fish. But now I know for next time to simply ask them to leave the shicimi off. Sushi 101 will definately be seeing my family and I again, and often.
