The folks at Howling Dog are awesome! We rented cross country skis and they helped us at every turn, whether it was tracking down skis for one of us with exceptionally huge feet or opening early so we could get our skis and hit the trail. Awesome service.

Best bike shop ever. Full disclosure: I’m a local and good friends with the owners, but that doesn’t do much to discredit my review as virtually everyone who walks into the store ends up being friends with Phil and Kim. These guys have absolutely everything you’ll need to get out there and enjoy the wilderness, but the real value of Howling Dogs is that they serve as the unofficial concierge to the Plumas County backcountry, and indeed everything Plumas County. If you visit the area, your trip will be a lot better if you stop in and visit these guys early on.

So much more than a great bike shop– it’s THE stop if you’re visiting the area and want to get information about great places to bike and hike(or even eat). These are super sweet, generous folks who are passionate about helping people fully enjoy being active in the outdoors, and being good stewards to the area. Was super impressed by how friendly they were, and they were super generous with their time.

Nice small town bike shop. Plenty of merchandise and looked to be a good place for repairs also. We stopped in looking for maps and info on area rides and the staff was very helpful.

Stopped here because it was the meet up spot before our hike. Finds out the owner Kimberly K. was going to be our hiking guide. She was friendly and very knowledgeable with the area. My lips were drying up and had to get chapstick and was able to purchase one inside the shop. The place is small, but cute. Met her husband inside. Everyone here is very nice and friendly.

I want to say thank you to Kimberly for her time, patience and taking our group to a gorgeous hiking up there by bear lake, silver lake and long lake. It was an awesome experience and maybe next time, we will rent out a bike from her store to go out there on the pristine areas /parks nearby graeagle.

Great bike shop in Graeagle. Stop in and check it out, there are shopping opportunities beyond bike stuff. I picked up some natural skin care products and also bought a Lakes Basin map. When in Graeagle, check it out!

Greatest little bike shop ever! I came up to graeagle over a holiday weekend, looking forward to a few days of beautiful climbs, only to realize I left my shoes at home… 300 miles away. My wife took a long shot and called howling dog, asking if they rented spd compatible cleats. They said they didn’t, but Phil from the shop had a pair of spds that fit that I could borrow as long as I needed. When I offered the shop to pay something, they said don’t worry about it, but welcomed me to look around the shop to see if there was anything I needed. I picked up a pair of wiretap gloves– because I needed new lightweight full-fingers, not because I need to text while climbing, and a howling dog t-shirt, which I will proudly wear as this lbs’s newest fan.

Great new bike shop in Graeagle. Staff are very knowledgeable about the area and willing to give their time. I didn’t have my bike serviced, so I can’t review maintenance service. I finally found the perfect pair of gloves after years of searching. The shop also offers ski lessons and ski and snowshoe rentals. The staff are actively involved with local trail stewardship if you’re interested in contributing to trail maintenance and building. Maps of MTB trails are available for sale.
