First time here and was disappointed since I’ve heard great things. First, the tiny shop was PACKED. Lone out the door. The flavors are also a little bit too unique and the kind my husband and I both wanted they were out of on this night. :(We nibbled on the flavor we settled on and then tossed them and went to the ice cream place up the street. What a shame. :/

Every review you read is spot on for Grass Roots Ice Cream. The best ever! Many, many varieties to choose from. Immaculate, darling little shop(there will be expansion). Friendly, caring service. And now, on our town green sits a new gazebo, where you can enjoy the outdoors while licking! This is a MUST for any and everyone this summer.

Was not that great, I had the Key Lime Cheese Cake, my wife the Toasted Almond. Mine wasn’t even green it was like vanilla with lime flavoring. The Toasted almond had none and none of that toasty stuff again vanilla with flavoring. Will not return.

Super friendly service. I usually order the one and one half scoop serving: one scoop of the best vanilla ice cream ever!!! topped with one half scoop of a rich dark chocolate.(So many other choices(sweet and savory) to try going forward). But, some days I am all for one and one half scoops of a black and white milkshake ice cream flavor. Brilliant!

This friendly establishment is highly recommended. The pleasant staff is always eagerly waiting to greet you. They have a system that allows their line to run as efficiently as possible. Grass Roots always has a wide variety of delicious flavors available. Want to try something new… just ask and they will give you a sample. Some of our favorites are the salted caramel, double oreo, molasses oatmeal cookie and one of the newest coconut caramel brownie. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.

Hallelujah! A new addition to the CT ice cream scene with the quality of Collins Creamery and the creative touch of nouveau flavors to delight the taste buds. Their salted caramel may just be the best I’ve had. And where else will you find butter sunflower seed ice cream? This is creamy, high quality stuff at a better price than places like Tulmeadow and the like. And fear not, those of you who are nonadventurous — they have the classics available for the likes of you as well. This place just added 20 worthwhile minutes to our weekly ice cream commute.

New to the area and a fan of homemade ice cream, I was scouting out my new place. Definitely found it! Every flavor has been delicious, and there is always something new. I love the variety of sweet, savory, traditional, unexpected. There is something for everyone! Must check it out.

Employees move you through the line at a quicker pace than Disney. Great selections and a good place to end a long day.

Soo many different flavors! Both traditional and more creative types. Nice, clean, minimalistic shop. The young girls behind the counter were pleasant and didn’t mind giving me what seemed like a million samples to try before I made my choice.

I was so impressed with the amount of flavor selection and such awesome quality ice cream. I’m a fan of dense ice cream and this one hit the spot.

Wicked good home made ice cream! We love the chocolate brownie and coffee toffee. The sorbets are awesome, too.

Love the interesting flavors. My daughter’s favorite is Honey Lavender. In the summer, we go at least once a week. The service is great and the staff are very nice. It is very convenient, we live close by. There are at least 4 different ice cream places we can go to within a 5 minute drive from our house, but we go here. Be sure to check out their Winter Ice Cream Share — you get 2 quarts(half share) or 4 quarts(whole share) of ice cream during the winter months. It’s a great place overall, you should definitely try it!!!

This place is fantastic! I’d read the reviews but you never truly know until you try it yourself. It was an unseasonably warm day in CT and my wife saw that they were going to open for 1 day only. We decided to drive over with out daughter and check it out. It is hands down the best ice cream I’ve ever had in CT and maybe even beyond. It’s fantastic and absolutely worth seeking out! It’s a small shop inside and the line was a little long, but it moved quickly. There were some interesting choices, but we stuck to old favorites for this trip. We’ll definitely be back in the summer!

Omg! The absolute best ice cream in the state! We are a family of ice cream lovers and have tried out every ice cream place in a 15 mile radius of Simsbury and found this place to be the best by a long shot! Too bad they close on Sunday’s and the winter– enjoy while they’re open.

What an amazing ice cream place! Homemade, natural ingredients crafted in house with a very unique flavor board, this is easily our new favorite discovery. We tried toasted coconut marshmallow and 3 other flavors and were totally floored. I’m pretty sure the kid serving us behind the counter was brand new since the owner was instructing him not to pack the cup since it ruins the ice cream. When he messed up our order and we tried to tell him not to worry about it, the owner gave us one scoop free of the flavor we should have received – a nice gesture. We’re definitely fans and can’t wait to come back!

Friendly excellent service. We liked this ice cream better than J. Fosters and the farm one on Cottage Grove Rd. We tried double Oreo, Mexican hot chocolate, toasted almond cookie crumble, and banana walnut chip. Best in order: — double Oreo — toasted almond — Mexican hot chocolate(spicy) — banana

I had been dying to go to Grass Roots Ice Cream, based mainly on the Unilocal reviews. We also got to try a couple of flavors at the Savor gala… I was lucky enough to have the Biscoff ice cream that night, which was amazing! It’s a little far for us, but this weekend the stars aligned. I saw on their Facebook page that they had Biscoff ice cream, and we had a free day. So we visited a few vineyards, had some pizza and then finished the day off here. I got a scoop of Biscoff and one of blueberry pie. My husband ordered the lemongrass coconut and the cardamom cashew date. They were all really good, but my favorite was definitely the biscoff! The only thing I think they could improve would be to open on Sundays, at least in the summer!

Amazing as always, and definitely worth the 25 minute drive. What other ice cream place can I say that about? Last weekend, my best friend was visiting so I brought her out to East Granby to enjoy some ice cream on a gorgeous summery night. I opted for the peppermint oreo and she got a scoop of both honey lavender and the caramelized pear — all incredible! I’m also a huge fan of the blood orange chocolate chip and anything/everything they make with banana. The store gets pretty busy but the line moves fast. And it SHOULD be busy — this is probably the best ice cream in the state.

You haven’t been to Grass Roots Creamery? Then you haven’t had real, creamy, flavorful, just perfect ice cream and milkshakes. The ice cream here at Grass Roots is seriously some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. I can’t get enough. The flavors aren’t your typical ice cream flavors; they’re unique but have basic tastiness that satisfy your taste buds. There is a wide range of flavors available daily, so everyone will be able to find at least one flavor to enjoy.(Except me – I found about five I love, and I’m definitely going to keep trying more!!) Only happy taste buds and bellies will result after enjoying this ice cream. A light, good and content-full feeling are the results of the ice cream churned here, and no aftertaste, which I can attest to after trying a number of flavors. I sampled the Honey Lavender, Lemon-Ginger, Mexican Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and Chai Tea Latte. I really enjoyed each, all living up to their names and descriptions. The best of these(and these are the best of the best ice cream) are Honey Lavender, Salted Caramel, and Chai. Each flavor was simply perfect in sweetness and texture. I had to get a Chai milkshake, while my friend got a great sized Salted Caramel cone. My friend said it was the best Salted Caramel she’s ever had, and gave me a taste, and I have to agree that it’s hands-down the best Salted Caramel! And, yes, a Chai milkshake. Our server made an outstanding milkshake, with the perfect balance of milk and ice cream. The chai spice flavor was not lost in this tasty concoction. I can’t get enough of the Chai ice cream from Grass Roots. I had to get a hand-packed pint for home so I can keep enjoying this deliciousness! One of the owners came out while the server was making my milkshake, and I told him the Chai was just a spectacular flavor, tasting just like the chai spice without being too overwhelming. He said it was an experimental flavor, and I emphasized [strongly] it should be a regular flavor because it is just perfect in every way.(Hopefully they decide to keep it as a regular flavor!!) If this is an experiment here, and it’s THAT good, can you imagine how the regular flavors are? Yum! The staff at Grass Roots is simply spectacular like the ice cream it scoops. Our server, Laura, was so kind and really hard-working. She was running the shop by herself when my friend and I went, and she was so efficient in scooping treats and giving samples to everyone who eagerly stepped through the door. And she gave me tips after scooping my Chai into a pint on how to keep my ice cream fresh. She was wonderful! I’ve been wanting to try Grass Roots for quite some time, and now that I have, I’m so glad I did! I really can’t wait to go back, both because of the fresh, tasty ice cream and the fantastic service. Who’s in?!
