Homemade ice cream in a wide variety of flavors. Unfortunately the homemade cone was soft around top. The restaurant is in a converted house shared with another business; we almost missed it. The gal who served us was friendly and helpful.

Never heard of this place. Found it on Unilocal while driving through Simsbury and in need of an ice cream fix. The ice cream was rich and creamy. Excellent stuff. I was a bit disappointed with my selection, but I chalk it up to the flavor I chose. I ordered a flavor I thought would be vanilla ice cream with pieces of Mounds in it(can’t recall J Foster’s name for it). The ice cream was quite good, but the coconut /chocolate candy tasted sub par … not like a real Mounds. Disappointing. The second flavor in my cone was cherry vanilla and that was quite good. They also had gelato, but I didn’t get to sample it. My wife had chocolate gelato and says it was delicious. Maybe the fact that I didn’t get to sample it, tells you something about how good it may have been.

Best ice cream in the Farmington Valley. Though pricey, you get what you pay for — consistently rich, creamy and delicious ice cream. My go to place for ice cream and ice cream cakes. Outstanding.

Just as the three star rating says, it was really just a-ok. Maybe I’m spoiled by Massachusetts cows and the deliciousness which is Gran-Val Scoop in Southwick, because I’m not the biggest fan of J Foster. I ordered a scoop of Moose Tracks(mini peanut butter cups, and what looked like crushed Oreos) and a scoop of peppermint stick. Right off the bat, the peppermint stick was overly milky in flavor and not very minty. Yes, I know ice cream is made from milk, but I’m that girl who hates the taste of milk, but loves ice cream and cheese. It was pretty off putting but I licked my way down to the moose tracks, which wasn’t half bad. The homemade waffle cone left a bit of a greasy film in my mouth, but otherwise ok in taste. I never go to j fosters, but was lacking the time it takes to get the good stuff in Massachusetts. They’re a bit on the pricy side at J Fosters for what you get, but I chalk that up to being a convenience factor. I think next time I’ll skip this place and drive on down the road.

This place has a slightly different appeal than the other one on Route 44. I like the train tracks and train suspended from their ceiling. Right outside they had a bike rack, which I believe anyone can use(it’s like Give-A-Bike, Take-A-Bike). I love the Graham Central Station. Interesting to know that Firebox in Hartford puts a scoop of this on their Deconstructed S’More dish.

This shop and the one in Avon are probably our go– to ice cream spots. It’s a basic ice cream parlor that does ice cream the right way. At other places I’ve had ice cream that is too«chewy», but J Foster’s seems creamy and very fresh, like they go through it quickly enough that it never gets old. Service is generally very quick and efficient and portions are generous(i’m an adult male weighing in at 300 lb’s currently and generally get a kids size). As mentioned by another poster the Graham Central is a go-to(Wife’s favorite), additionally they often have gelato’s or sorbet’s that are very good and rotate through those offerings often. Very enjoyable to sit out back and just relax under the tree and watch the going’s on down on Iron Horse.

I was amazed to find out this place actually makes their own ice cream in their Avon location! The pumpkin pie ice cream is out of this world — not overwhemlingly sweet and tastes exactly like a colder version of the Thanksgiving Day treat. My personal favorite however is the cookie monster… chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with blue food coloring… too cute!

Mmmm J Foster ice cream. Yummy. So, while all of their ice cream is pretty incredible, you have got to go straight for the graham central station — it really is my favorite flavor now. I have dabbled with other flavors, they are all very creamy and fulfilling, but I do love me some graham central station! Prices are good, services is always friendly, the area is kept clean, and they offer indoor and outdoor seating. They even have a couple of benches overlooking a nice field that tends to add to the entire experience. Somehow their 2-scoop size, lands you with more than two scoops, so you won’t leave feeling gypped in any way at all. The waffle cones are always fresh, which is really nice. All too often you order a waffle cone and they are stale — just ruins the experience. Not at J Foster as they are always fresh and tasty. Their peanut butter sauce is pretty near perfection! I have tasted an array of «peanut butter flavored» sauces over time as I am a huge PB fan — most prove to be undesirable, bu not here. Just perfect! Well done, J Foster, well done. They do need to repaint their parking spot lines as it isn’t clear how you should properly park, but something you overcome very quickly once you catch site of a lingering line. There is always enough parking so no matter how you park, it all works in the end.

Heavenly. Stopped by to grab dessert. Love that this place is open relatively late! I got a scoop of the Graham Central Station and a scoop of the Oreo – both were nice and creamy and the oreo was chock full of pieces. Service was friendly and willing to let you taste before committing. Will definitely stop back!

I’d driven by here more times than I can count and always wondered how the ice cream was here… now I know. It is high-five-a-stranger delicious. Flip-flopped teenagers in front of and behind the counter set the stage. The barren environment inside defies description, it’s so plain. It looks like the ice cream shop is squatting in an abandoned(but clean) house. There are two bays of ice cream flavors, one on each side of the register making it hard to decide in a linear fashion, but it doesn’t matter… it’s all inordinately delicious. As other’s stated, the Graham Central Station was amazing! If you’re torn on what to order, this is the one I would try. A pet peeve of mine is stale waffle coneage. I hate paying for a frozen confection and then sitting down only to realize it’s stale and chewy. The cones, even the chocolate covered ones, were nice. Prices aren’t bad; four of us had waffle cones for around $ 20. You can buy cartons of ice cream to take home if you want, too.

Swung by today to celebrate the glorious weather with a cone. We enjoyed a Coconut Mounds and an Oreo Gelato on a sugar cone, sat by one of the many outdoor tables and chairs, watched the parade of parents and their kids going in for a taste, saw two kites soaring in the beautiful blue sky against the backdrop of the Talcott Mountains. Wow, what a nice time.

A little on the expensive side but good quality ice cream and toppings. Store made waffle cones and super fresh whipped cream. Nice outdoor eating area around the back.

I attended a birthday party that had a birthday cake from here. It was AMAZING! I don’t know of another ice cream cake that could begin to compare. It was 3 layers of various ice creams, not to soft not too hard, separated by a layer of cookie crunch and a layer of chocolate and covered in whipped cream with extra cookies and sprinkles. Yummy!

Expensive, but fantastic. A lot of unique flavors, and great service. The ice cream is smooth, creamy, and a step above traditional chain ice cream places. I’ve had their Maple Bacon and Caramel Cashew so far, and look forward to trying the bevy of other awesome flavors.

Second best ice cream around(Mt Tom still the king). Great variety of flavors make picking just one very time consuming. Mounds ice cream super with gobs of coconut. Graham Central Station includes choc covered graham crackers. Fantastic flavor. Fantastic! Very pleasant service. Oh, and you can get free samples should you wonder what Cookie Monster taste like. Prices are comparable to other ‘gourmet’ ice cream shops.

J. Foster’s is tasty! They have a nice selection of flavors(all the usuals, some kid oriented ones like cookie monster etc., and some adult only ones that have a touch of booze!). Their rasberry chip frozen yogurt is my favorite esp since it doesn’t taste one bit like frozen yogurt– very creamy.
