Desserts By Design & Consider it Done

The cupcakes are Wonderful… And great customer service… I would definitely recommend this place… I’m looking forward to the chef making my 50^th birthday a grand affair and Ellen has great ideas and superior customer service…

I really can’t say enough good things about Consider It Done and Desserts by Design!
After meeting with many caterers in Grand Haven for my wedding in 2010, I finally came here and was so happy to work with someone who was helpful, wasn’t pressuring me to up the budget, and was just a general pleasure to work with.
The food at the wedding was delicious, and my wedding cake was absolutely gorgeous and tasted amazing. I also had a groom’s cake made with the Cubs symbol that was perfect and also delicious!
I’ve also tried some of the other cupcakes in the shop and they have all been delicious!

There is a homemade goodness that can certainly be appreciated about this place. The interior reminds me of an old school candy shop with cupcakes on pedestals with glasse coverings over them and glass cookie jars. It was very beautifully displayed. There is a back room where a small party could be held and displays of a variety of showcase cakes. We came in to try out some goodies before we decided on a large birthday cake for my mom. I had a lemon cupcake that I did feel was much too rich to finish, but the blueberry and white chocolate cookie was delicious. We did get to sample the cake again before it was made for my mom’s party, and I would say it was just sweeter than I like my desserts to be. It was a coconut cake with pineapple filling, and almond frosting. It was a pretty fan shape, but I thought it would have some Chinese writing on it and got the Happy birthday message in a writing that looked more kiddish than professional. I have to say I was underwhelmed. The owner, Ellen is super nice and easy to work with, but I think she might have been taking too much on with having to fit our order in.

Had lunch here today and was very impressed. The lunch menu is small but everything on it was great — we tried just about all of it — mushroom wild rice soup was light and very flavorful (I liked it and I don’t even like mushrooms), spinach and chicken crêpe, veggie crêpe (asparagus, summer squash, red peppers, spinach), both salads, and blueberry lemon curd crêpe for dessert. All delicious. The portions are smallish but the prices match — pretty affordable little lunch — except the soup, for $ 3 you get a pretty big bowl! They also do catering and full bakery fare (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc.) From the looks of things I think they might even do wedding cakes. My husband ordered a cake for my birthday tonight so we will see how that is later on! There is also some sort of an event planner who works here, so it seems like one-​stop shopping for a party. Really cute shop in an older house that’s been all renovated with a few tables for eating in.
