I tried out this new place at the downtown market. They do offer tastes of the soup, which I recommend taking advantage of! Purchased the combo with a cup of soup, beer cheese stout of some sort, which was good. The potatoes I got were the disappointment. I got the option where the potatoes were cut up and probably roasted/fried. From the bowl pictured of the potatoes, there was a creamy white substance on the top that I assumed was sour cream. Well, when I got it it turned out to be a gelatinous, tasteless gross gravy– Yuck– and that was in addition to the vat of sour cream on the side of the potatoes. The sour cream was good and had savory herbs in it. The potatoes were not. They were very chewy(not in a good way) and without flavor. I got the potatoes with cheese and sour cream as the toppings. Additional toppings are something like $ 1.25 each… and only two toppings came with the combo, not a great deal. It seemed to me that the toppings that are inexpensive, such as green onions or tomatoes, should be included and not counted toward your alotted toppings. I will not get the potatoes here again, possibly the soup.

Boy do I LOVE soup! I am not a pushover where it comes to soup, either. If a restaurant serves me a soup out of a can, I can usually tell. This place doesn’t do soup from a can! OHWOW! I went there yesterday afternoon, and was so excited to see that they offer THREE made-from-scratch soups every day! To my amazement and absolute joy they had Roasted Asparagus Soup as one of their Fresh Featured Soup of the day! Was it amazing! I could have eaten a vat of it. There were nice pieces of Asparagus in there, too. It had a very pleasant flavor, appearance and aroma. I was also offered a taste of the Lumberjack Chowder, which was the other Fresh Featured Soup of the Day, as well as the Baked Chili that was the Favorite Daily Choice for Saturday. They were all delicious! Blue Spoon Soup & Spuds also offers Spuds that you can either purchase separately or in a combo with their soup. These are also made on-site from scratch. Now you are probably thinking Baked Potato and you would be so far off from what they actually do. Every day they offer two different types of spuds, for example Saturday’s offerings were BBQ Glazed Potatoes and Baked Sweet Potatoes. Then to your single selection of a potato, you can add between 2 and 7 toppings or more depending on what you want or how crazy you want to go! The sky’s the limit. I saw people getting the BBQ Glazed with Cheese, Chicken and Spinach and Onion. It looked really good, but I only had eyes for my Asparagus Soup. I was also offered a taste of the BBQ Baked Potato and it was awesome! I think their uniqueness adds wonderful dimension to the Downtown Marketplace and I am glad I found them. They have a nice counter where you can eat, a wonderful selection of sandwiches and salads to go along with your soup and/or spud and some delightful beverages to go seamlessly along with your selected items. It was really worth the trip and I will be making it again often as I see Monday is Broccoli & Cauliflower Soup and Wednesday is Roasted Tomato Bisque! Who needs anything else when you have soup & spuds…
