The food is really good here and authentic Mexican. While dining inside, I felt like I was in an establishment within Mexico. They even had cold Mexican coke to add to the experience. The chips and salsa were just alright, but the entrees, I got a giant burrito and my wife got a quesadilla, were delicious. The steak was tasty as was the cheesy sauce they put on top. The downside of this place was the inconsistency if when it is open. We drove all the way to this place and the back door was locked. So we went to the front. There was a sign on the door that said the place would be closing early that day at 8:00. It was before 5:00 so we knew we were fine. As we walked in a lady came from around the corner and hesitated before seating us. She then locked the door behind us. We watched awkwardly as several people tried to get into the place. However, despite the sign saying they would close at 8:00, they chose to close before 5:00. This is frustrating as a patron, because if you are going to have posted hours, you really should adhere to them. We would have been pretty mad had we been turned away, but our empathy for the other customers loses this place a few stars.

This is the REAL deal. It’s authentic and it’s amazing. The new owner has stepped it up even more. It’s great for lunch. The portions are huge. If you like the chain Mexican places this isn’t the place for you. But if you want flavor to die for and the stuff your Hispanic friends tell you they grew up with, and love, get into this place. The staff is so friendly you will feel like you are at a friends house.

Authentic! If you’re into Tex Mex please go elsewhere. The food here is amazing! Family owners and staff are so nice and graceful. This is a simple restaurant with no bells and whistles but the food and friendly staff are incredible!

I was looking for a more authentic Mexican taste and I think I found the right place. This is not another Mexican food chain that use the same menus, ingredients and décor with a slightly different name. They have their own unique sauce flavors and meat seasonings that are just what I was looking for. The food was great and there was plenty of it for the price. The entry and check out area was a bit cramped for the people walking in and out, but the seating offered enough room.

This is the best Mexican we’ve had in town. We call it «going to mom’s» because it’s like home cooking — always so good, and you feel taken care of. Hubs always gets the carne asada, and I’ve explored most of the menu. Their tostadas are awesome, as are the tamales. Every time we go, something seems upgraded, too(new menu designs, new booths, etc). Love it!

I have been here a handful of times and have always enjoyed my meals. The spicy chicken tamales are a particular highlight. I have also enjoyed the quesadillas and burritos. The sauces are fresh and flavorful, they have all the Mexican sodas you would expect a place like this to have now, and the prices are reasonable.

AMAZING! The rice was just how my abuela made it! I had a barbacoa burrito! Delicious! I added the green salsa to it to! My son had a chicken quesadilla! And demolished it! I will go back! I wish they delivered! They were out of the chicken tamales when we tried them. But next time that’s on my list to try!

I after reading the reviews I expected better. New owners for 3 weeks now, maybe it changed. Burrito was cold on the inside, waitress new and had to keep coming back to ask questions about a routine order. Tostada and shrimp quesedilla a bit bland, boring presentation. Would not accept entertainment book coupon issued by previous owner. Much better places in town.

Can’t believe I haven’t a review yet for here, shame on me! Excellent AUTHENTIC Mexican. The chille Rellenos wet burrito is so good you’ll sell your firstborn. It’s heaven wrapped in a tortilla. Seriously, death row last meal good. If I could marry one, I would, but it’s probably illegal. I also LOVE the shrimp Quesadillas, I wish they made it big enough so I could crawl inside lose a sleeping bag, but that would be weird. And besides, they don’t, I’ve asked. The tortas and gorditas are also top notch. Sometimes I eat until I hate myself, cry, break out in cold sweats, poo my pants, pass out, or all of the above simultaneously. Like binge without the purge. This doesn’t happen with La Huasteca, the more I eat, it just brings me to my happy place. La Huasteca is mastication masturbation, an orgasm in your mouth, but the good kind. I’m not usually into that sort of thing, but La Huasteca is an exception. I wish I were a Ruminant Hindu God with 8 arms and 4 stomachs so I could eat everything on the menu all at the same time.

We are moving to Denver and I have just found this place. After 5 years in Michigan. WHY? Why didn’t I come here sooner? First, the sauces. OMG. You hear the blender going of CONSTANTLY, which my husband found mildly annoying, but I literally found myself drooling. For good reason, those sauces tho! I swear they made the ones for our entrees up fresh. They are bright, clean, complex, and utterly cravable. My husband got pork enchiladas with salsa verde. I tried a bite, and it was all I could do not to steal more. My kids loved their quesadillas. We shared the beef taquitos, they have a little more kick than I was expecting, but not too much so. They were great, best I’ve had in the state! We also shared some guacamole, holy cow. Want more! It was amazing! My son got a beef burrito wet, and liked it so much he’s begging to go back before we move(not bloody likely, it’s an 80 mile drive for us, but I’ll admit, I’m tempted to try). I wanted to try a few things, none of which I could finish. I got two tacos, the crazy chorizo, hot dog and something else one, which is just as crazy as it sounds, and just as good as everyone says. But salty as heck. If you have high blood pressure beware. I want another one. Like, now please. And BTW, their chorizo is the best I’ve ever had, and I’m from LA. It’s well seasoned it’s free of any nasty bits, and it’s not super spicy, just enough to tickle your tongue. I was a bit less fond of the carnitas taco, I’m used to being able to head into Cardenas and pick up carnitas and tortillas and salsa, so they aren’t quite the melty, fall apart deliciousness I’m used to. But they were tender, flavorful and porky. I just really miss the carnitas of my home state. The shrimp tostada I ordered kind of tasted strangely of cat food. I tasted the shrimp separately, they were delicious and perfectly cooked. I wonder if it’s the way the beans go with the shrimp? I’m used to shrimp tostadas with no beans, and guacamole. Lots of people love them, and those shrimp were amazing, so try it and see what you think. I also tried a tamale, which I didn’t eat until the next day. I got the spicy pork one, it’s great. Solid. Not super spicy. The only thing I wasn’t so enthused with was the beans. They were a little thin and missing the pork fat of good beans. And I like refried better, a little dryer, and more flavorful. And the rice is good, not great, but I enjoyed it. It’s fresh and well done. But I would be lying if I didn’t say I’d had better. All in all, I’d say this is the best Mexican food in the state. It may be better than some in LA too. It’s certainly better than some of my old standbys back home. I’m really going to miss it. I hope I can fit in one more trip.

La Hausteca is consistently my brother’s favorite Mexican restaurant in town(he goes there so often that they gave him a free t-shirt last time he went), and I also really enjoy the food there, but I’m not exactly in head over heels with this restaurant, as he is. I’m a pretty good at making Mexican food myself, but when I eat out at a Mexican restaurant, what really does it for me are the different homemade salsas, which La Hausteca could definitely improve upon. They usually just give you pretty standard roja and verde sauces and that’s it. My brother(who is not a vegetarian) swears up and down that they do barbacoa, chirizo, and all of their meats better than any other place around. I personally love the nopalitos and guacamole here. I just wish their sauce game was more interesting. Authentic Mexican food at very reasonable prices with a fair selection of vegetarian dishes/easily-adjustable dishes.

Fantastic food! I travel to Mexico in the winter and the food here is right on par with ever stop I’ve made down south. I had the tamales and a taco. The tamales were so moist and wonderfully seasoned. Not dry and bland like at some other places around town. The spicy pork taco was just that, spicy and delicious. Not too much spice as to make you uncomfortable but for me just the right amount to leave a slight tingle on the tongue. Not only was the food amazing but the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for some fantastic, authentic Mexican food! I will be making this spot a regular stop in my weekly routine.

I was craving some authentic Mexican and we journeyed over to try out La Huasteca. For 7pm on a holiday weekend they were slammed busy which is a good sign in my book. I had come craving tacos and ordered a carne asada, a barbaccoa and a spicy pork. I ordered them«Mexican style» which is cliantro & onion but requested very, very light onion as they really don’t agree with me. My husband ordered the flauta dinner. Our food came out quickly and my tacos were literally swimming in onions, I don’t know if they confused«light» with lots but it was clear that the message was lost. Fortunately they were right on top and easy to swipe off but unfortunately it took most of the cilantro with it. The corn tortillas had been dipped in hot oil but not really allowed proper drain time so they were greasy, like 20 paper napkins later you still are slippery greasy. Don’t get me wrong I love me some fried tortillas but it affected the flavor of the meat. The homemade hot sauces were very good and made fresh daily. My husband inhaled his flautas but left most of his beans and rice, he added a lot of verde sauce to the rice and it made it better but overall he felt they were meh. To drink we had both ordered horchata. It was the sweetest I have ever had. So cloyingly sweet, with a butterscotch aftertaste. You could tell it was from a powered mix because it was allover the bottom of the glass. I love horchata but this was way too sweet. Our service was good, its not a huge place so it doesn’t take very long to get your order. I think we would try it again and just modify what we order.

Excellent vegetarian options. I love the cactus as an option. Delicious. The guacamole is fresh and homemade. We wanted flan, but they ran out :( We will be back to eat here again.

La Huasteca is a small hole in the wall kind of place with surprisingly good authentic Mexican. When you arrive, it’s easiest to park in the back(there’s a side road that leads back to a good sized parking area). Go through the door that says«La Huasteca»(it’s just a windowless door with a knob). You’ll have to walk up a flight of stairs past their cleaning supplies area and into the main restaurant. Whatever thoughts you might be having at this point, don’t worry. The food’s worth it. Service is helpful and friendly. Pots steamed away on the tarnished stove top behind the register as I ordered and Spanish programming from a small TV over their fridge set the mood. I ordered the barbacoa(beef cheek), adobada(spicy pork) and chorizo tacos, each of which came with cilantro and onions(radish slices and lime on the side). They were all very good! Reach for a bottle of their house made sauce and liberally apply it to everything, trust me. You will not be disappointed. The best Mexican food I’ve found on the north side of town.

What a gem! We came across La Huasteca by chance and decided to check it out– so glad we did! Prompt, courteous service during our dine-in experience. We ordered a little bit of everything: delicious tamales, sopes, tacos, burritos, & quesadilla. Amazing fresh house-made sauces accompanied our food. Hands-down best horchata I have ever had! This is the real deal! We will be back!

I’ve been going here since they opened and while they’ve always been great, I really think they’re getting more and more spot on with their seasonings and food handling in general. I’ve had the steak, chicken, regular pork and barbacoa tacos and the torta, sopes, asada, flautas and dry burrito. The meals can easily be split in half. Everything I’ve had has been really good, though keep in mind that if you’re ordering delivery the flautas can get that cold, greasy taste. I bet they’re amazing freshly made. The flautas are made with shredded chicken or pork and fried in a corn tortilla – like a taquito. The sopes are like a little dough pocket filed with whatever protein you want. The alambre is really good as well. I’ve never had this dish before but it seems very much like fajitas to me, with spicy pork, chicken and steak served with peppers and onions and tortillas. The dinners come with rice and beans, tortillas and some extras that seem to change constantly. I’ve gotten jalapenos, lime, avocado, little pearl onions and radishes. The food can be heavy and greasy but if you would like something less so I would recommend the torta. They’re sooooo good and filling for around five bucks. The chips and salsa aren’t free but are pretty worth the two bucks imo.
