We’ve had breakfast or lunch here quite a few times. We have always had great service and meals. One of our favorites for the area especially for breakfast. It’s a little more pricey than new beginnings or mr burger, but well worth it.

Always enjoy their at home atmosphere Cheeseburger soup is worth a special trip Great place for breakfast. Careful on Sunday as it is popular with the church crowd.

Being a place that offers breakfast in Grand Rapids can be tough– as many do it so well. We went out of our comfort zone to try to Cheshire Grill. Sadly, they didn’t earn my future business. As you can see in the pictures, it has an old time diner feel. The booth we were sat in had a ripped booth, no big deal, just something I noticed. They advertised a buffet special– we walked by the buffet, and it didn’t have a ton of choices for $ 10. Little did we know, until another server explained it to the table behind us, that the first plate is $ 10 and then an additional charge for every plate after that. Not much of a buffet if you have limited options and basically charge per plate. Based on other reviews, it looks like this should be somewhere that you try for lunch or dinner.

I have been coming to the Cheshire Grill since I moved to the neighborhood in January 2014. In the beginning, the food was great. Great portions, great flavor, great service. In the last 6 – 8 months or so, the quality has really been subpar. I’ve that there were quite a few chef changeovers going on, but changing the entire menu every month seems a little ridiculous. Find something good, and stick with it.

Large homemade portions, delicious shakes and good burgers! Mothership had a chicken salad sandwich that looked like it had large fresh chunks of chicken and celery, with a creamy sauce holding it all together. The shakes are hand dipped and real ice cream — which is always a treat!

What a huge disappointment. We hadn’t been there in about 6 months or so, so we were unaware that changes had been made. We asked the waitress and finally she told us that the menu was different because the chef had changed, although owners are still the same. This place has deteriorated significantly and I won’t be back. The menu is about 40%-50% of what it once was. The waitstaff was not nearly as friendly or as knowledgeable, and the food quality is seriously lacking. What was once a great diner with unique and delicious food is now barely worthy of being crummy truck stop food. It was a huge disappointment because the place used to be so good. Gone are the little perks, gone are the unique twists, gone are the expertly prepared and delicious dishes. Way too bad. I won’t be going back, and I’d be surprised if they can survive. Very sad.

We came in for a Sunday breakfast and we were delightfully surprised with a unique buffet spread. From the decadent fritatta to the scrumptious french toast topped off with a sensational fiesta hash. Great atmosphere great experience.

Fresh ingredients, friendly service and amazing foods. They also have a killer burger menu with a dozen options — and build your own if you don’t find one that appeals. Hint: Try the cheeseburger soup. You’re welcome. Save room for a handmade shake to go, as well!

The food here was pretty good, old fashion dinner food, but the service we got was terrible. Our waitress rang our bill up incorrectly. Usually something like that wouldn’t bother me much, but she refused to correct it. When I asked again, she responded with«fine, but I am busy and if you want it fixed you are going to have to wait until everyone else is taken care of.» It was only five dollars, but her rude response and refusal to try and make it right left a bad taste in my mouth; not sure if we will bother to give it another try.

No Cheshire grin here. After waiting for over an hour for our food with no checkin by management or even a server we left. Will not return.

Went here for the first time today. We had high hopes since everyone raved about this place. The service was mediocre, we seemed to have 3 different waitresses as if everyone pools tips. Makes for an awkward experience. The staff talked very loudly right next to us, about cut times and when the work next. Very unprofessional. We waited 20 minutes for food, not very busy at the time. Only a handful of tables toward the end of the rush. I ordered the a veggie breakfast dish with potatoes, onion and peppers. It was basically all onions and peppers with a dash of potatoes. Very bland taste, nothing special. At least not worth the wait. My wife had the monte cristo, she says it had no flavor and no raspberry dipping sauce was provided. Coffee was very good though. Not sure how this place was awarded best breakfast in Grand Rapids. Perhaps the other dishes are better, but first impressions are everything to me.

1st time visiting this place, have passed it many ties under different names but I have never stopped. I had the triple decker grilled cheese with beer battered fries. Overall it was pretty good. I would totally eat it again. The others with me got a club, pancakes & an omelette. The sandwiches were big & the breakfast dishes were pretty large portions as well. Everyone seemed pleased with their choices. The owner was quite chatty — probably spent about 75% of our meal sitting next to us talking to us about just about everything. Dogs, Unilocal,Groupons, popcorn, his kids, etc. They were closed & cleaning up the place & he kept chatting! He told us they had pretty good burgers so I may have to go back to try one!

Just ok. Service was polite and prompt, and the menu came across as just a step above basic… everything seemed to have one ‘surprise and delight’ element. However, food was about a 2. We both had sandwiches that came out kinda soggy and less flavorful than how the descriptions and ingredients on the menu put our expectations. Also, I would say everything on the menu is about a $ 1 more than it should be in terms of «value». Con: They charge ~$ 1 for a tablespoon-sized side of sriracha mayo for fries. Yikes! Pros: The fries were really good, and they have brewed iced tea. Yum! Service landed at just under 4 stars, so I’m giving 3 stars overall… but, that might be a little generous.

One word comes to mind when you eat at Cheshire Grill, STUPID! Try the big stupid burger and you’ll be convinced that Cheshire is a definite place to stop when in Grand Rapids. Great customer service. Everything we ordered was made to perfection, from the biscuits and gravy to the Ruben sandwich. The food is all homemade & very tasty!

Worst salad ever. No croutons or vegetables. When I called them they just said sorry and offered no compensation. Do not give this terrible restaurant your business as they do not care about their customers.

I have been here a couple times for both breakfast and lunch and each time I haven’t been disappointed. Even had my brother who is a cook and his fiancé who is going to school for food science compliment this place.

If you love bergers, this is a great place to try… A little spendy, 9 bucks, but that being said… The quality of the food, and the great friendly srrvice makes it worth it. Plus the cool old timey décor, and ice cream too.

I enjoy the breakfasts here. Good ingredients make it much better than most other breakfast diners. I have always had good service, which I know some people have complained about being lacking. How can you not like a place that has good breakfasts, good burgers and ice cream creations like malts, shakes and sundaes? Yum!

Love the family friendly atmosphere, big portions, and tasty, home-cooking but patience is required as service tends to be slow. On my most recent trip, we got a table around 9:40am on a Sunday morning and didn’t get our food till around 10:30. Yes, I know Sunday breakfast is a popular time, and no, I didn’t have anywhere else to go, but dang it, I was hungry! And watching everyone around me get their delicious looking food didn’t help! But I’m telling you what– once your food comes out, it’s all worth it! No one at the table will be talking as everyone will be eating!

Wow, really good! My husband and I came here after seeing near-weekly check-ins by a friend of ours here. We arrived an hour or so before close(they close a bit early), but we were still cheerfully greeted and seated immediately. This place is a quaint little place that will remind you of a 50’s diner. They have an ice cream parlor on one side! The menu is pretty weighted towards breakfast, sandwiches and burgers. But, being a professional breakfast connessuer, I was happy. I ordered the Cheshire Skillet; red potatoes, onions, peppers, cheese, covered in sausage gravy(homemade!) and topped with eggs. DELICIOUS! My eggs were a little over-cooked, and the gravy was a smidge too high in salt, but it was still good enough for me to want to eat my weight in it. And the toast, which is usually a throw away item for me was amazing. Amazing toast?! It was homemade bread, I swear. My husband ordered a spicy burger and it looked really delicious. It was actually cooked how he ordered(90% of places can’t accomplish this), the burger was a good thickness, and it was delicious. The fries that came with were also delicious. Besides the few little ticks with my food, I was very happy. The waitress was a little brisque, but still very friendly and prompt. I wish I could give it a 4.5, since I need almost perfection for a ‘5’ rating(I have crazy high standards…). But I’ll be waiting with anticipation till I can go again.
