Ask for the authentic Chinese menu. They have a Midwestern American friendly menu they hand out to anyone. They also have a truly impressive secret menu — this is the best Chinese food I’ve had in the Michiana region.

We enjoyed many good meals but not recently! The quality and the service has become below average. The meals are served cold when they should be hot! Service is poor and slow even when the restaurant is empty. The owner needs to refocus on the business. Quality needs to return or they will become history as the competition for food revenue is tough.

This is a reasonably attractive and spacious strip mall Chinese restaurant that offers much better than average food. We had Crispy Beef which actually was crisp on the outside but still tender and Orange Chicken which was moist and tender. Both dishes had just a hint of «hot» which was as promised. Service was pleasant and prompt; I’m not sure where the complaints about slow service came from. And the price was typical for most Chinese restaurants in suburbia these days.

Husband and I got takeout from BHG last night, agree with some of the others… very bland food. Definitely not worth what is charged and will stick to OG’s for our Chinese food. Did get two smoothies with tapioca, only good part of the meal that was worth the money.

Sad to place such a low review but another couple along with my wife and I all had a terrible experience and tried to call and talk with the manager and never got a return phone call. We called in two separate orders for carry out. ETA was 20 minutes, we showed up after 30 and waited for an additional 35 minutes. One of our ordered was ready when we got there but they had the wrong name on it and they were confused, so it was cold since we waited so long for the other order. No offer for discount, no apology. While ordering we asked if the black pepper chicken was breaded and we were told that it was. Another order, we asked for Kung Pao chicken no veggies. When we got the food, the Black pepper wasnt breaded, looked like chicken and broccoli that they just put pepper on top of and the Kung Pao had extra veggies along with veggies that normally aren’t in it in the first place. I ordered a Mango smoothie with boba and my wife ordered a avocado Smoothie. Neither were ready when we got there which is probably why we had to wait another 35 minutes. The Boba was frozen, the drinks were only ¾ full and the avocado was a peach avocado. I explained i ordered avocado and the hostess argued that«we dont have that», we pointed at the menu and she just stared at us. At no point did we get and apology, no willingness to remake the drink even after I asked and after we got the food home and realized more was wrong we called and asked for the manager who was there five minutes prior, we were told she wasn’t in. Never received a call back.

Just ordered food for delivery. They charged 5 dollars for delivery plus gave 5 dollars for tip. They forgot an item and when I called and asked if they could bring the item I paid for they said«I don’t have time for that.»

We were only in town for the day for a business meeting and asked for a recommendation for great food. A local said that they have the best Chinese so we are so thankful he told us about BHG because the food was amazing. We were the only 3 people in the place at 1:30 on a Friday and the service was great. We were out of there in less than 45 minutes, which could’ve been less but we couldn’t stop stuffing our faces. Pad thai was great, crab rangoons were super stuffed, yummy shrimp chop suey and hubby loved the hot @ spicy fish chips(I can’t eat spicy). Egg drop soup and hot & sour soups were among the best we have ever had. Lots of vegetarian options and I’m sure they could offer vegan no problem because of all the veggies. Thanks for a delicious meal!

The food is excellent and the restaurant is very nice and clean. I don’t know why we always get the worst service when we dine in though. We went back today for lunch with friends and the server Hollie was extremely slow and a bit rude. There was only one other table besides us, but it took Hollie 17 minutes to bring drinks. Hollie also gave my husband and our friend the wrong soups of which they ate anyways because they didn’t want to wait half an hour for the right soup. I would have given BHG5 stars, but two were deducted for continuous lousy service every single time we dine in. I want to note that we tipped the server, but had our friends not been with us she would have received zilch!

My partner have tried BHG twice when our favorite Granger Chinese place was closed. Unfortunately, it is on my list of «never go back to» places. We didn’t have anything bad happen to us, we just didn’t have anything good either(except the crab ragoon which was some of the best I have EVER had, hence the two stars) and I hate spending money to have someone cook me so-so food. The food was pretty tasteless and did not fulfill that Chinese food craving. Honestly, I rather wait an extra day to eat at my favorite Chinese place than settle for BHG.

Foods here are authentic Sichuan style from China. It makes me think of my home town. The service is good as well! Like it!

I really only put one star since I have to give one, but our experience was awful. We went in on 5÷2÷15. From start to finish this was a bad experience. The waitresses fingernails were filthy was the first problem. I had her send the water back twice because there were things floating in the water! The appetizers came out and were poorly fried and greasy but were okay. Then came the main courses which were definitely worthy of gagging. I mean the calamari was just awful it smelled like it was cooked in sweat. Sweat from a very dirty person. My wife ordered a vegetable dish which i’m not sure about and it was super greasy as well. The plating was awfully done and the smoothies we ordered had cardboard in them. Just a total lack of attention to detail. When I informed the waitress that I wasn’t interested in paying she huffed and walked away. Then for about ten minutes we didn’t see her and I had to ask her again from across the room if we were okay to leave. So they had the nerve after serving terrible food and filthy plating to give my wife and I attitude. DONOTGOHERE. After reading some of the other reviews it is so weird because my experience is so unlike their’s. My experience was horrible enough that I won’t even try to go there again. Good luck.

Not bad. Not good. I review primarily on food, and this place gets a three. If you throw in décor and service, it’s still probably a three, but simply a less than relaxing experience. It’s just not the warmth you need from a restaurant when you want to enjoy an evening. Onto the food. You will get two menus. One is their standard menu. The second is their«authentic» menu. Yes the dishes listed are quite famous Chinese dishes. We ordered from that list. The food was marginal. The Beef chow fun was meh. The dish should be, in my opinion, dry. This had a lamentable cornstarch gravy/sauce mixed in. The flavor was good. It was not too salty as is sometimes the case. But it didn’t have the flavor of being cooked over high heat just short of being charred. I think the noodles, while not dried first, were a bit short of fresh. We also got a seafood medley. It was also very sauced. Why why why?! If you have good ingredients, you don’t need salty sauces. The seafood quality was fine. Nothing to write home about. Everything was just fine. The potstickers were pretty good though and the dipping sauce made good use of ginger. They also do not give free tea. In general, love of the customer is lacking. I don’t know what Patrick(another Unilocaler who reviewed) s talking about. JW Chen’s blows this place out of the water. Hers is the real deal in every sense of the word. Taiwan weeps with pride when she cooks. BHG is much closer to me, but I won’t be going back. Not when 10 miles puts me in the arena of culinary perfection(most of the time). One caveat. I believe I read that their chef studied in Sichuan. We did not get any Sichuan food. A further addendum is that JW Chen’s gets really good when you are ordering off the menu, which requires a personal relationship to a degree. It is possible that the right connections at BHG yield a similar result. You be the judge.

The food is good, authentic IF you eat there or pick it up yourself! Don’t order delivery! Takes way longer than quoted but if you’re paying by credit card you have to pay when you order so they’ve got your money! Called to find out why our food was a half hour later than quoted and got a snappy reply that«they’re on their way». No they really weren’t. Still took a long time to get our food. Next time we’ll not pay the delivery charge and tip and just pick it up ourselves.

I am a Notre Dame student from China, so my opinion about Chinese food should be the most impartial. It’s simply the BEST Chinese restaurant near South Bend. The food is very authentic and tasty, the size is very big, and the service is great. I have also been to Chicago’s Chinatown many times, and I would say BHG is better than most of Chinese restaurants there. And most importantly, the price is very fair. So I never went to JW Chen(the Chinese restaurant closest to ND) anymore after we got a car. How I wish they could move to Notre Dame!

I’ve been to BHG3 times now, and have had a great visit each time. They have two menus, one is the American menu(with standard American Chinese fare) and the other is the Chinese menu, which contains traditional dishes and is written in both Chinese and English. I highly recommend asking for the Chinese menu. I first heard about it from the Chinese students at Notre Dame, and they all frequent the place.(Always a good sign!) I really like spicy, Sichuan-style food, and there are many such items on the menu. And they don’t automatically assume you can’t handle the spice.(So if you can’t, be sure to ask them to make it mild.) So far I’ve had the salt and pepper calamari, the judgment chicken, the dan dan noodles, the poached fish, the Chongching fish with soft tofu, the garlic scallops, and the appetizer sampler.(When you go in a group, it is best to order a bunch of dishes and share, which is how I’ve tried so much.) I loved everything apart from the dan dan noodles, and the only reason I’m not as fond of them is that they are much different to the way they were prepared at my favorite restaurant in Indy. When you order tea, they bring you a nice china pot, and you have your choice of 5 types of tea. They also serve beer and wine, though I haven’t had those. I’ve had only great servers on my visits. I’ve read the other reviews, and I think they must have replaced the staff who were providing the bad service. I’ve never had to wait long for a drink refill, or remind them of my order. They’ve been quite friendly and accommodating. I highly encourage you to give it a try. If you like authentic food, I know you’ll love it. And though I haven’t tried the dishes on the American menu, I’m guessing from the quality of my own orders that they will be just as good. The restaurant is stylish, well lit, and very clean. Enjoy!
