There are tons of flavors for homemade soda for grabs and hot fudge sundaes are good(and big), The food is typical 50’s/diner fare so for what you’re getting it’s good. The prices when I was there back in 2009 were VERY reasonable. You’ve got your jukebox music playing and a nice little atmosphere. For what you are getting, it’s definitely 4 stars.

On a scorching hot August afternoon the staff of three was having trouble keeping up with the orders. I think that’s a good sign. The ice cream was good! In front of the cardboard Elvis cutout by the side door were two dogs lounging on the concrete floor as their owners enjoyed ice cream and a few families gathered for some food. Seeking cool refreshments at Cranky J’s we took a seat at the counter and ordered up some shakes. Service was not cranky and the staff was friendly though the order process and payment was somewhat disorganized. Also, there were no napkins, but maybe they ran out? As I walked away I wondered if the guy behind the counter with the tattooed forearms was Cranky J himself? Three stars for now till I give them another try.
