Best apple pie going. Very busy so be prepared to wait a bit. Heard they moved to a bigger place

No breakfast. Which is extremely disappointing considering we drove quite a way to get here for breakfast. They serve pie and coffee in the morning, but not breakfast. I feel that the Unilocal listing should be updated to reflect this change. The food was okay and the pie was good. The service was just okay. Not warm and friendly but not rude. If I lived very near I would come here again but I wouldn’t drive more than 5 miles for the experience.

I’ve been to this restaurant twice, the first time was great, sat down, ordered, got my food in a timely manner, the food was pretty good. So I went back under the impression my next visit would be similar, waited in this establishment for 10 minutes, there was no one else eating, waited 10 more minutes to order a grilled cheese and then waited 15 more minutes for a cold grilled cheese that appeared to be sitting there much longer than 15 minutes, still tried to eat it but wasn’t able to. I would love it if I could make this my weekly lunch location as it is on my way out of town and it’s very cute but at this time I’m giving you guys a 3 star rating as my first experience was so good. I will be giving this place another try in the future and will update my rating accordingly.

I was a regular patron of this establishment until a change of ownership, hoping to continue frequenting this establishment I found the food to be disappointing and a lot of excuses why it was sub par. I won’t be returning.

Apple Alley is a restaurant that has two faces. The bright sunny breakfast/lunch side and the 60’s dark dinner restaurant. I’ve eaten at both. The dinner side provides a pleasant visit back to the 60’s. I think it’s unintentional which is really too bad because they could do a lot to attract customers who like the Bing Crosby/Rat Pack vibe. The food is okay but there are better restaurants for dinner in the area. The breakfast/lunch side is a bit more contemporary(flat screen tv’s) with a country feel. The food is consistently plentiful and good. If you have plenty of time, I recommend the breakfast burrito. Beware however! Every time I’ve ordered it, I wait at least a half hour for the burrito even though here’s NOONE in the restaurant. The other issue that many have mentioned is this place is pricey. Clearly two to three dollars more per person than other breakfast restaurants. I must be missing the busy times because by 9am, there are few customers. Contrary to what someone wrote earlier, they DON’T have public wifi. There is no 4G available out there so bring some reading material if you’re that kind of customer. Frankly, I think they’re missing the boat by not providing public wifi. They must not be worried about filling their booths. With a little«tweaking» this could be a popular place.

This place is great! We went last night with another couple and were very pleased with both the food and the service. My butternut squash tortellacci was outstanding, and my friends were similarly pleased with their spaghetti and meatballs, salmon, and pork chops. They have a very extensive menu, so we’ll be back soon to try some of their other offerings.

Ok for breakfast and lunch but why do they even bother with dinner? Poor service and food and they only stay open till 8 and make it pretty clear they want you OUT by then!

I have been there twice with my family and each time someone got a couple of really long hairs in their meals. I noticed the owners both have long hair. it was disgusting. I will never go there again. YUK

We live near this restaurant and it is not a top choice. The breakfasts are expensive for just average grocery store ingredients. For the same price you can drive a couple more miles and get gourmet food. One time we ordered a bacon omelette and the bacon was raw. They had to recook it so I was eating it when everyone else was done. The interior design would have been tacky in the 80’s. I don’t even know what it is now. The last time I was lazy and didn’t want to drive into town I ordered. Breakfast burrito and coffee. It cost me $ 15.00 and was less than worthy. Just eh. South Pine Café is the best breakfast in town. Same prices but MUCH better quality.

My Wife took me here for breakfast… It was my birthday. Heard about this place from friends. This is where the locals go. Breakfast was great. Had a Denver Scramble and it had great flavor! My wife had strawberry pancakes and the strawberries were baked in plus on the top. Very good. What we found really nice was the music… Old Bing Crosby music. We’re not old folks, but we found this quaint and added to the breakfast. It is a little pricey. My scramble was large(4 eggs) and was $ 12.50. 2 large pancakes were $ 7.99. Waitress was great. We will be back!

They now have pizza. Kinda pricy but it is really good. Try the all meat. Sauce has a sweet kick to it. The crust is awesome. Haven’t tried it cold or reheated yet. It never last that long.

Omlettes are killer. Bacon is properly done, which is huge for me. Owners are very hospitable, and their pizza menu looks very appealing. I can’t wait to get that there. It’s only 5 minutes from town, too. I’m a fan for sure.

Sad to report terrible food, how is it possible to have a soggy baked potato and rice pilaf with the consistency of over cooked oatmeal? The place had the ambiance of a dining hall in a Minnesota retirement home. I asked the waitress whether the salmon was fresh and if it was recommended. She said it was one of the best dishes on the menu. It was terrible, overcooked, bland, and had that«been frozen for a little too long» texture. Add to that their«live» music was a guitar player playing with a karaōke type machine with elevator/Lawrence Welk style music. I felt like I was in a senior center. So very disappointing. The staff were very nice which is why they merit one star. All of that for a bill in excess of $ 50. We will not go back. I recommend you don’t try.

We went for dinner, both meals ordered were good. Service was excellent. Want to go back and try some other dinner dishes. I had a ravioli special and my friend had the coconut shrimp. Our waitress was really sweet and the keyboard player was fun. Breakfast gets 5 stars as it’s the best we’ve found in Nevada County.

Not a big fan. Apple Alley used to be a family favorite, but the arrogance and prima Donna attitude coming from the owner turns me off. A family member(that used to count this a childhood favorite) had the worst experience! When the chef makes a mistake, ruins a dish or whatever, better to admit the mess up and move on. When there is no responsibility taken, not good for business in a small town!!! I won’t go back, nor recommend Apple Alley to my friends.

This is one of the best places for home made pies fresh from Nevada County. They have some of the freshest food in the area and a real country atmosphere. Mostly older people frequent here along with some bikers on their way through to Colfax. If you’ve never been it’s definitely worth the trip.

You can not go wrong trying Apple Alley Rest. for the first time or going on a regular basis. Menu is very diverse & satisfies all tastes. Owners, Terri & Doug, and the staff are excellent people. The food preparation is very good. We have had breakfast, lunch, and great dinners. The new evening dining room open Friday & Saturday evening is known for Prime Rib and many pasta & fish dishes. The new dining room is beautiful; really first class ****+l. You’ll be very impressed. We live in Nevada City and will drive to Apple Alley Rest. because we are never disappointed. Enjoy. Apple Annie’s is the place to be if you are a single 70 – 90 year old bachelor or bachelorette. If you have a love of trains, wear a diaper, and walk with a cane this is the place to be! It is a breeding ground of retired, handsome gentleman discussing war stories while sipping their cherry phosphates and nibbling their Metamucil. Just walking into this place puts you at risk of a quarter being pulled out from behind your ear. In all actuality, the place is really sweet. The pie is great. And hey, if you are single retiree or need a sugar granddaddy it’s the place to go hunting. Just be sure to get there early. Handicap parking is very competitive. Plus, the name Annie is very seductive ;)
