I went there today with a friend and inquired about the veggies in the fajita mix since that was all I was interested in. When the very nice waiter came out with the dish, it was just onions and a small portion of very overcooked chicken. I asked where the peppers were since he had said that they were in the dish. On his return from the kitchen, he said that they only had a few and had to save them for the other customers. Even though the ambiance is OK, parking is easy, and the waiter was prompt and courteous(and we tipped accordingly), I don’t think I will be going back.

Waited over 30 minutes for my food, they were out of salsa on a Sunday evening, and the food was not worth the wait or the money for that matter

It’s hard to find great Mexican food in Nevada county. This place is a total gem! The cooks come out and talk to people, which I think is great in building relationships with customers who keep returning. The carne asada is a MUST-it may seem pricey for Nevada county prices but it is worth every penny. The enchilada sauce is always delicious. So happy we found this place!

Updated 10-23-2015 Don’t forget to ask for the habanero salsa for your chips, it’s not on the menu, along with their usual salsa and bean dip you get. I ordered the macho combo #1, I ordered 2 tacos and an enchilada. The usual beans and rice we delicious tonight. The waitress came several times to check on us, so the service was great. We got there at 4:30 and were seated immediately, but when we left at 6:00 there was a crowd at the door and there was a line starting outside, so get there early! They take Debit and credit cards and do take reservations, I asked. We did ask for the secret habanero salsa, and it was delicious. We ordered guacamole for our chips, it’s not on the menu, it was ok, but we had to ask for it twice before we got it. We ordered off the one page menu that was slipped into one of our menus, and ordered the Macho combo with a taco and 2 enchiladas. They were wonderful. Came with great beans and some dry-ish rice. We walked into the dining room and sat down at an empty table. There were only 6 tables in the room, but it appeared to have another dining area that appeared to be closed off. By the time we left, there was a line out the door. We got there at 5:00 and left by 6:30. The servers seemed overwhelmed when the tables were full and everybody was trying to get their attention.

This review is negative but meant to help improve the business and will be written respectfully. Our server was polite. Our total wait time from begening to the end of our meal was 1 hour and 22 minutes. We oreded 2 kids quesadillas, chicken mole and a vegetarian tostada, dinner salad and drinks. My root beer was never delivered and neither was our dinner salad. The veggie tostada had whole pinto beans, very dry rice and lettuce. It was very dry and unpleasant and had almost no flavor. The chicken mole was very dry as well and served with store bought mission style tortillas. We saw our server only when she took our order and dropped off our drinks. Our food was delivered by another person. No one ever asked if we needed anything or how our meal was. We waited 15 minutes after finishing our meal and had to search the restaurant to pay our bill. Dinner was 45 dollars plus tip.

Starving after a visit to nearby Empire Mine(amazing place!). The chips were crispy and fresh. Yeah! Salsa was good, although a bit on the mild side. «Bean dip» tasted like heated refried beans, but the kids liked it, so props and thanks! Yeah for kids meal items under $ 5. I have a problem w/restaurants over charging for kids meals. Really?! $ 4.95 here for a choice of a taco, burrito or quesadilla w/a side of rice and beans. Ample and filling. Gracias! Hubs ordered the verde enchiladas. I thought the sauce was lacking, but since it was 3 pm, and we were eating a late lunch, no one complained. I ordered the molejeta– a soup like combo w/chicken and beef. Chicken was moist, but the beef was dry and tasted like skirt steak. Sauce was decent w/fresh onions and peppers, and a side of rice/beans/tortillas. Price for 4 of us was $ 41(1 soda, and the rest of us drank water). Not bad. Food came decently fast, despite a few tables arriving at the same time we did. «A-OK» for a 3 star solid rating. Nothing spectacular, but nothing blatantly discrediting. Conveniently located off the freeway and a few minutes away from Empire Mine(a must see!).

I had high hopes for this place since the reviews were pretty good. We just moved to the area and looking for a new spot like we had in the Bay Area. It was just ok, no biggie, nothing bad or great. Service wasn’t all that good, the waitress didn’t give us more chips, didn’t fill our water, so… not worth going back. Plus, they don’t have Horchata, and to me, every true Mexican restaurant should have Horchata.

The food is amazing the service is terrible. Service at a restaurant is huge. The last time I was here the customer waiting to be seated next to me was saying the same. Service in Nevada county is generally pretty bad. This place is by far the worst as service goes. If you don’t mind waiting a long time and watching you wait staff ignore you stop by

I’m from the Bay Area and this place is comparable to some of the best there. Beer and wine is a little pricey. Chips are great, Carne Asada is fantastic. Tortilla soup to die for. Plenty of parking and it’s actually larger inside than it appears. Service was fantastic. They absolutely do take credit cards as that’s how I paid last night.

The food here is the best mexican in Grass Valley. The restaurant is small, but cozy. Service is pretty good. I luv how they serve refried beans with their chips and salsa. If they served margaritas it would be heaven

Great food, definitely my favorite Mexican food joint in the NC/GV area. They do take credit/debit NOW. Service can be slow at peak hours, so allow time drink a beer or do take out if you are in a rush.

Everyone keeps saying that they do not take credit cards, but both times I have been there(yesterday and two weeks previous) I paid with a credit card. They never said anything about it. Maybe it is certain types they don’t take? I have a visa. I have lived in Grass Valley for 15 years, and I have no clue how long this place has been here but I am soooo glad I found it! It is the best Mexican food I have had since going to Mexico. I love it! They pack a lot of people into a small place and are slim on wait staff, but it is worth every minute of wait. The prices are great, and having less employees probably helps them be able to stay low on price because the quality of the food is still excellent. You get more than what you pay for, in my opinion. Get your check right when your food is delivered and then it helps cut down on some time.

Plaza Jalisco has some of the best Mexican food in Grass Valley, but it comes at a price. They are a cash only establishment, the wait is generally more than 15 minutes, and if you’re lucky enough to get a certain server you’ll have a decent experience. If you get any of the other servers, you will find yourself constantly asking for refills on your beverage and salsa. Overall, it’s a decent place if you have cash, some spare time and don’t mind being a bit assertive with your server. Also if we stick to the combo menu, the wife and I can share, eat our fill and get out of there for just under $ 10… Not bad at all.

The food is usually good though take out has proven to be inconsistant. The service is always consistently terrible. You always have to wait for a bill and wait longer to cash out. Nice enough people just no clue how to wait on tables. 2 irritations cash only… i understand it but annoying. Secondly they use paper plates wrapped in tin foil for their to go boxes… This is messy and inefficient. If I have to tolerate the terrible service and plan ahead to make sure we have cash they can at least provide a legitimate take out container. The cost difference is negligable. Seems to me there is no concern for the customers convenience.

Habanero salsa… Secret… You have to ask for it! Grass Valley? What happens there? Well, Plaza Jalisco happens there! Pros: Seated quickly, chips and salsa are AMAZING! Quaint little area. Cons: They only accept cash. Wasn’t prepared for that.
