Terrible food, terrible service! The man(manager/owner?) was so rude to my seven year old granddaughter because she accidentally knocked over his daily special sign. She told him she was sorry but he continued to yell at her until she cried. I wish I would have walked out. Take my advice, RUN!

The food here is always good I’ve never had trouble with it. However today the lady who helped me was very nice but the gentleman who rang me up had quite an attitude and I didn’t appreciate it I may not be coming back

Absolutely disgusting! The meat is dry and looks like it has sat there for a few days. The«guacamole» tastes packaged and chemical like. The place is dirty and if you ask any questions the owner gets mad. NEVER going back. Blech!

This is a sorry excuse for a taqueria that I made the mistake of trying once. The foods are mostly pre-prepared and then assembled when you order. I didn’t see any grill, nor frying surface in use when I was there at all. The chicken burrito I ordered was virtually flavorless, and the salsa provided was unimpressive. There are definitely better options available in GV and NC for quick and delicious Mexican food. Don’t waste your time here.

At one point this was a decent restaurant with decent food, now it isn’t. The food is okay they make an okay wrap but it is not a burrito by any means. Their chips used to be good and again even those are lacking now. The big kicker though is the owner who on every occasion that I’ve been in has been a total jerk. He is rude and always in a bad mood and at this point I’ve had enough and will no longer eat there. All the other staff are okay but he brings the whole place down. Uptown burrito we are done.

You know, I usually write reviews when I’m not happy with a place. Coming from the bay area, I’ve had my share of Mexican food — so it’s not like I don’t know what’s good or what’s bad. I have to say, for a small little hole in the wall, their burritos are quite decent. I like that you can chose your tortilla, the chicken was tasty and the spanish rice I chose with the black beans was good. They give you a healthy portion. I will gladly pay 7.99 for this burrito. I think the complainers just don’t like the price or they don’t know what a decent burrito is.

It’s just okay. I have eaten here quite a bit and it’s just never that great, though it has also never been terrible. The owner seems like a nice guy who is always in a bad mood for some reason. The flavor combinations are mostly bizarre, like teriyaki sauce and salsa? I do like the Hawaiian wrap the best. Oh, and let’s be clear, this ISNOT Mexican food. The Burritos are wraps.

Let me start this review off by saying that I am a rad bit biased, being the fiancé of an amazing chef specializing in Mexican-American fusion cuisine. With that being said, my fiancé and I came here today for lunch– I had never been here in all the years I’ve lived in Grass Valley, this was a joint I had never tried, but my fiancé had and swore up and down that it was great. The atmosphere here was a little odd. It was very quiet, only two people working who didn’t seem very happy to be there, and didn’t seem to care about being personable and inviting towards their customers. At one point a couple came in and both employees were in the back and didn’t come out despite hearing the chime on the door for a couple minutes as the couple awkwardly stood at the food bar, waiting for someone to come help them. The food was alright. Not the best quality and not the most flavorful for sure. Their salsas for their wet burritos seemed really watered down compared to what I’m used to seeing and most of the ingredients in their selection were very run of the mill. They did however have a chicken tikka masala burrito which is what I got, but the only thing really satisfying about it was the tikka masala sauce, the chicken was a weird texture and the rest of the ingredients were what you could just as easily get from Taco Bell for a fraction of the price. I think if you’re going to have an item on your menu that is a fusion item like that, the flavors would pack a punch and be something you’d really remember. If you’re going to stray from your typical menu items, at least try to make it interesting and execute them well. I also found it strange that their burritos come with chips but they don’t have any sort of salsa bar… I mean who wants to eat dry chips with their burrito? Maybe if the chips had some salt on them it MIGHT be okay, but they didn’t. I tried to put some of their hot sauce that they have sitting on all the tables on my chips like a salsa and that was even worse than eating the dry chips. I’m convinced this«hot sauce» is 10 parts vinegar to 1 part chilis. No bueno. All in all, what you get for your money here really isn’t all that great. I could have made a more appealing burrito at home that actually had some kick to it for a lot less. Even Jimboy’s has more flavor than Uptown and they can certainly wrap a burrito better. Hell, even Briar Patch is a thousand times better and they aren’t very cheap! I felt bad because my fiancé was even disappointed and left saying«Honey, I’m sorry. When I was a kid it was so much different. I don’t know what happened.» Needless to say, I doubt either of us will return here in the future which really sucks because I was hoping this would be the place for some good Mexican food in Grass Valley. I better keep looking.

Ok so the burritos aren’t bad at all. Good flavor and fresh ingredients. However they’re too small and I always have a weird experience in there. Staff is not very friendly!!! Every time I go in I expect that it will be better but it never is. I always seem to have something awkward/unfriendly happen. Unfortunate

Grew up in the Mission District SF. I know how a burrito is supposed to look, taste. This was shit. Chips are santitas under a lamp. burrito is SMALL. rice is «spanish rice» u know that crap u buy at store with red seasoning all over it. not the orange small rice with bouillon. WAYOVERPRICED gringo burrito. More expensive than in the 415!

This place is extremely inconsistent. There are times when I go in there and it is great. Other times it really is not. The only factor is the owner. When the owner is there it is horrible. He is rude and not pleasant at all. He got annoyed that they made the burrito for me instead of asking what I wanted. I also feel that he does not treat his employees well and that is something that I really care about. I feel like they just don’t really care what the customer wants. I know it is not a place I will go to again.

Really folks??? It seems like most reviewers are a little harsh about this place! I eat here several times a month. It’s like a better quality fast food type restaurant. Build your own burrito concept… Only they have better quality ingredients. I’m pretty sure they cook the chicken fresh instead of the pre cooked reheated crap that you get at most Grass Valley restaurants(a pet peeve of mine since I’m a chicken lover) I recently tried their special, chicken tikka masala, and it was delicious! Again– it’s not by any means fine dining but for a quick bite to eat I love it.

My wife and I eat here about twice a month and love it! I usually get a Tai Chicken Bowl with mild salsa. The employees are always very friendly and you can usually get in out pretty quick which fits our busy schedule.

That will be the last time I spend my money in this establishment. The owner was short and rude, in response to a small request and then made my burrito so sloppy it was leaking through the bag in my car. The customer is always right, and this owner is in need of that reminder. The food has gone down hill and prices up. Your better off getting a Raleys burrito.

I like the large portions and you get to customize your own burrito! Overall, it has great food.

Culinary faux pas repeated throughout menu. BBQ sauce in a burrito covered in salsa and sour cream? Taco Bell has more class and comes closer to acceptable Mexican cuisine than Uptown. Jimboys around the corner, and the Briarpatch down the street, and this place is seriously still in business? I haven’t had such poor quality ingredients since lunchables. I created a Unilocal account to critique this place.

I am giving them one star because the cashier was friendly. We were looking for a quick place to grab a bite to eat. Wish we had gone to Panda Express just down the walkway. I actually had a burrito on a plate with no tortilla, chips & guac. My husband got a chicken burrito. First warning should have been the guacamole in a squeeze bottle. It tasted like they thawed frozen avocados & made the guac in a blender. It was pureed. Gross! I live in East Side San Jose, so I am a bit picky about my Mexican food, but not unreasonable. Rice had no flavor, chicken was bland, portions were very small(especially for the price). My husband got a snapple. It wasn’t cold, but the cashier gave him a cup of ice. When we were done eating & went to leave & I was going to get a plastic cup of ice for him to finish his snapple. A different cashier came up to help me & she rudely asked if we had eaten here… I said yes. Then she hesitated, like she was trying to see if I was telling the truth. Then she said that they normally charge 35 cents for cups & if that was a problem for me, then she could just probably give me one. I explained to her that the drink he got was warm & we were leaving & I wanted a cup of ice for him. She finally gave me one.

Giving one star because I have to. Not very good quality of food and very overpriced. Paid almost $ 8.00 for a small to go box consisting of rice, beans, cheese, onions, salsa, and«guac»… And the only ingredient that stood out to me was salt. They have no fajita veggies or anything along those lines for vegetarians besides beans and rice.

Okay, I try to give a place a few chances before posting reviews with less than three stars. Every time I come here, I get the same rude lady and the food is just okay. One thing Uptown has going for them is their consistency. On our most recent visit, my wife’s burrito was dry and bland and mine wasn’t what it used to be. I miss their old recipes and their old employees from years ago. Maybe I’m just stuck on that. A great burrito isn’t easy to find in Grass Valley, unfortunately. It’s definitely not here.

I came in with my wife and we decided to slit a burrito and my wife ordered a soda. The girl asked if we wanted an extra plate and I said sure why not. Anyhow the chicken wrap and small soda came to $ 10.18. When I asked why so much the girl was clueless. I was told the wrap is $ 7.47 with tax and the drink is $ 2.00. So I said, okay that should be about $ 9.50, where did the other 65 cents go? Again she looked at me in bewilderment and said well the cash register rung up as $ 10.18. Thats about the time the manager came over and explained that I was charged an extra .65 cents for having it put on two plates. Now I can understand a sit down place with a wait staff charging for split meal service but even that is pretty rare. Now to have some counter service fast food burrito joint do that was nuts. For that reason and for the fact that the food actually is pretty terrible I won’t ever return there.
