Great place! Huge beef that truly is the best in Lake County. They also have great hotdogs and cannoli’s hidden in the drink fridge! If you’re ever near by, give it a try!

Decided to stop in for a quick lunch — just a dog & fries but both were good(especially liked the home-cut fries), place was clean, food served hot & fast plus reasonably priced. Sal, the owner was very friendly and didn’t scowl when I asked for dog with just ketchup. It’s a relatively new business and it seems he’s ready & willing to do whatever he needs to make the business succeed. I’ll definitely be back. Support local small business!

Good stuff here. Another small business kicking ass with good food. Simple Chicago style fare. Keep up the good work!

I needed a quick fix for my immediate hunger and always drove by this place meaning to stop in. Well, I came at lunch and there was a scarce crowd inside but the place seemed clean and the service was friendly. Ended up ordering a few Chicago hot dogs dragged through the garden and I probably waited for 2 – 3 minutes before my food was hot and ready. I’ve seen a few negative reviews and I honestly had a good experience with some great food. I will definitely be back to try a few more of the items that I’ve heard about — like the Italian beef.

They have a sign out front that say«best beef in lake county»… I can only assume someone highly intoxicated wrote that sign? NOWAY. Dry, cold, tasteless just to name a few. Not only that. The owner is EXTREMELY ignorant!!! Never going back.

Was not thrilled with the Italian beef the first time but thought I would give it another try because they are so close and convenient. I was disappointed again. The beef was not as thin and tender as Italian beef should be and it had fat on it. Yuk. They now have a homemade sign out front(very poorly written and unattractive) that says they are #1 Italian beef in Lake County. I don’t think they are even close to being the best in Grayslake. I did not give only one star because to be fair I did not try anything else on their menu. So happy Portillo’s has come to Gurnee.

Trying to support a local business, three visits each one getting progressively worse. I’m done. As its already been stated in other reviews the service is lacking all around. Especially when dealing with the owner. Every time I’ve gone in there he seams very overwhelmed. Trying to use a local paper coupon(bad move) he didn’t even read it and«forgot» to subtract it from the total. I had to explain what it was for 2 beefs, fries, drink save$ 3 Ended up spending $ 32 at this place so $ 3 helps Should of checked the bags before I got in the car, had to go back in for au jus and peppers. Didn’t see fries but some times beef places roll them up with the beefs. Gave the guy the benefit of the doubt. Got home found no fries, besides whatever I ordered it was in the coupon. Not the type of person to call a business but bad is bad. The Convention was short he told me «I don’t even read those things» ‚ «I’ll just give you fries next time you come in» ” I run into you guys once in a while” I had a Cubs jacket on maybe he ment that? And click! So… For the food, it’s just as lacking as the rest of the place. The beefs have gotten more and more bland, the cheese is half melted and you always loose most of it on wrapping. When you do get fries there soggy. And the prices don’t justify what you get on the Majority of the menu. We got some chili on this trip but never dove in kinda wary. Self proclaimed«best beef» where ever, usually doesn’t hold a lot of weight so maybe pumping the breaks is a good idea. We live way to close to good beef places to claim that. I’ll always support local business just not bad ones.

Came in and got a beef with cheese and fries for lunch. Was surprised by how quickly the food was ready. The beef was quite good. However, the shredded cheese barely melted on my sandwich by the time I got it home. If the meat isn’t warm enough to melt the cheese, then they really need to be tossing it under a broiler. Small seating area in restaurant, more seating outside. Definitely more of a cash and carry kind of place. Cost for only beef w/cheese and fries was over $ 10. Think it was a bit too expensive. The beef was solid, the fries were only so-so(hand cut, kind of soggy).

I really hate to leave bad reviews for a place that has had some great ones in the last few months. I walked in to order the Name Sake Beef with just mozzarella and it was severely lacking the cheese and it was fine shredded which you would think should melt better but no melt at all. The sandwich was cold when we got home which is all of 5 min from one side of Grayslake to the other it was disappointing. Ok so now onto my Sausage sandwich, asked for lite peppers and the same cheese of top so it seals everything in. Get home and it too is cold and zero melt and a ton of peppers. Sorry but this has been one big disappointment.

They boast the best beef in Lake County. That’s a bold statement for a newly opened establishment. I ordered pretty much everything on the menu which wasn’t difficult being as they only have about 10 menu items to choose from. Which is already a bad start. I like some variety. The beef wasn’t bad but far from the best in the county. Italian Ovens is better. The au jus they offered me was AMAZING. I could ingest that intravenously it was that good. The wings were??? Well they were cooked properly but the buffalo sauce had a different kind of spice that really didn’t belong. Clove? Cinnamon? Couldn’t quite put my finger on it. The highlight was the Tony Soprano Italian Sub. Surprisingly good. But it’s not Ba Da Bing Italian Subs Company. It’s Ba Da Bing Beef Company. So if your gonna title your business after the sandwich you claim is the best in the area, you’d better deliver the goods. I probably would have given this place 3 stars cuz the food wasn’t that bad… But the cheese I ordered on my beef sandwiches was not there. In addition, I’m sure I was overcharged in the area of about $ 5 not including the cheese I’m quite sure they charged me for. I’m always leery of a kid adding up my bill on a calculator. Anyway, the only thing worse than bad service is being overcharged. Hence the 2 star rating and the reason I probably won’t be returning.

The Food was AMAZING!!! My kids had the Italian beef, and Cheese dogs, my husband had the Italian sausage with red sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese, I had the Chicago Style Hot dog with extra hot peppers and Fries. The Fries are Amazing! Get a side of cheese! We will definitely be back

Awesome Italian beef. Great owner, a good old Italian Chicago boy. $ 17 for two of us. I know a ton of places that would have let us buy 2 orders of fries just for the money but he told us one would be enough for both of us it was great service. One bite of my Italian beef and I was fully focused on my food it was that great.

The food is pretty dang great. The Chicago-style hot dog is so good! The fries are fresh cut, which I’m not a huge fan of but they’re good. The prices are pretty good, about $ 15-$ 20 for two people. I’d definitely recommend it. My only gripe is that they don’t have a website or a menu listed online. They have some circulars inside the place, but the descriptions are pretty sparse and there are no pictures so you don’t know what you’re getting.

I was in town for my daughters gymnastics competition at the college there and we stopped there to order beef sandwiches to go and they were delicious! I don’t get up that way too often but it’s a must stop for a sandwich if in the grays lake area!

The beef is better than what you would get at a normal burger place, but when this is what you specialize in it should be better. The beef could have been more tender with more flavor. Offer options on how much juice you want on the beef. They go through asking if you want hot or mild peppers. Might as well lay out options for dipping or dry. The fries were decent. Steak fries come to mind, but really crispy on the outside. The absence of any online presence is confusing to me in this day and age. I had such high hopes for this place. I’m hoping they can make some adjustments as Portillos is going to open in Gurnee sometime later this year.

I really wanted to like this place. I sincerely hope its get better. Prices are high, food is below average. $ 8.25 for a combo and an additional $ 1.25 for fries? If it was good, I would gladly pay this or more. The beef was rubbery and tough with not much flavor. The sausage while delicious was also tough. Fries were OK, and the Hot Dog was good but did not have that Vienna Beef«snap». Fresh tomatoes on the Hot Dog and good bread on the beef were the only things positive about this experience. I’ll check back in a couple months and update my review. I hope it gets better.
