The décor makes this venue quite atmospheric, but the food is pretty average.(lower average) My family shared a big pizza: the dough was quite thick, pizza very moist, which made us digesting it the rest of the day. If we didn’t take a big hike on Monument mountain right after the lunch — Im not sure our stomachs would process it. My husband ordered burger– I tasted the meet — it had no flavor. (I’m usually not tough critic on burgers and pizzas but this were memorably bad) But the place has big piano, a stage, probably live music often, cool hippy dude«bussing» tables… I get it. It’s 100% self– service, including«clean after your self the table«, so I wandered later: where my 20% of tip actually went? Lol(the hippy«gypsy«is only placing your food at the table when it’s ready) Overall I think place is more t. trap-y than cool, but I’m giving it solid 3 stars because it’s pleasantly relaxed, they gave me free refill(again the décor…) and pastries(that I haven’t tasted) looked very good

Oh, Gypsy Joynt… I love you! What a cool little place right in the middle of Great Barrington. After spontaneously deciding to find a cheap hotel and make a weekend out of Great Barrington, dinner time came around and I did what I do best and took to Unilocal for some suggestions. I came across Gypsy Joynt, looked at the menu and decided to give it a try and I am so happy I did! Upon arrival, I was a bit confused on how they operated. It was a Saturday night so it was crowded but I wasn’t greeted by a server so I just waited for a table to open up and took a seat. I soon caught on that you order from the counter, receive a number that you put on your table and runners bring your order out. That cleared things up for me, so I headed on over to the counter. First off, they do service alcohol and actually have a pretty, funky cocktail menu so I was totally excited to try one of them out. I wish I remembered what we ordered, but both drinks were delicious and they came in mason jars which I am a sucker for. So onto the food. They are famous for this crazy burger concoction called the«PMS with a Blue Ball»(NOTE: The«Blue Ball» is a very delicious, chocolatey truffle). This was obviously a necessary thing to order, so my boyfriend went ahead and got that. I on the other hand, went for a healthier, but equally delicious vegetarian dish called«Maggie’s Veggies». It was pretty much a giant plate of seasoned vegetables but I saw sweet potatoes and was sold. Our food came out pretty promptly however the whole reason I got the«Maggie’s Veggies» was because I was in a weird«All I want is sweet potatoes» mood and to my dismay… THEREWERENOSWEETPOTATOES! I ran over to my runner, who was very courteous and she took care of it for me and actually brought me out a pretty good amount, so that was really nice. The«PMS with a Blue Ball» was an insane, delicious mess of mac and cheese and cheeseburger. Definitely, a treat but it was awesome and the«Blue Ball» was a funky, bite of deliciousness. Overall, if I am ever in the area again I will definitely be making a stop to Gypsy Joynt. I recommend it for anyone that visits. One star, off for the confusion but aside from that A+!

Worst meal of my life? I guess I’m exaggerating considering I barely ate there… But I ate the salsa so maybe that counts. I hate to rate places(especially this poorly) on a single bad experience. But in this case I think it’s ok(since I tried to give it a 2nd chance). The staff was friendly enough but it ended up being a subpar food experience. We ordered their«best salsa ever» and I’m not sure if it’s the only salsa they’ve ever had but it was far from the best or even all that good. My husband ordered the pulled pork and liked it. The problem was my order. I ordered one of the pizza’s but I’d asked for no bacon and lo and behold, when it arrived(considerably later than my husband’s dish) it had bacon! We had waited so long for it that by the time it came out I didn’t want another one and preferred to leave. The ambience is weird, not because the interior makes you feel like you’re tripping on acid, but because there’s basically no system for anything! It’s a free for all from ordering, to finding a seat, to paying. I gave it a 2nd chance, and this time didn’t even get to order drinks, let alone sit down. Needless to say, there won’t be a 3rd time.

Fun, artistic, unusual atmosphere for lunch. Great food– we got burgers, shrimp taco, salads. Cookies and cake are also great. My 1 year old loved looking at the mobiles on the ceiling.

Cool restaurant /music place with an awesome selection of gourmet pizzas and a wide menu. Service was slow, hence only 4 stars. Glad we hit this on the way to jiminy peak.

Delicious and fun! Great place for kids and adults alike. Laid back enough with the order at the bar and bus your own table style of dining. Not the place to go if you want to sit and relax after dinner – other diners hover and pressure you to leave. Had the burger with a bull ball that was out of this world. The Mac and Cheese was delicious and my family raved about the pizza. Cinnamon buns«the size of yo head!» while big and delicious, were a little bland on the non-icing covered parts. Drinks were delicious and local-can’t wait to goback!

This is a cool little place in a great city. The drinks are always great, the Bloody Mary is wonderful with pieces of bacon, pickles, olives, and celery. Sandwich and pizza selection is also top notch. It is self service, and get there off peak to ensure you get a seat. I’ve never been for the live music but they seem to have a full schedule on the weekends. Also… Try the cinnamon bun, it’s huge. Enough for a family to share!

Interesting place on Main street with eclectic ambience. We got veggie chili, which should have been called«carrot no-bean» chili. The banana bread with fruit was tasty. Baked goods were great. Chai latte with almond milk was horrible. Really, one of the most fun parts of the meal was trying to figure out the relationship between all the owners and the several kids who were running around. We gave in and looked on the internet … it’s run by 5 siblings from NC.

I know it’s a local favorite — and I’ll respect that being new to the area. It’s unique. And they are committed to not falling into any preconceived notion or stereotype. But it’s not for me. I’ll leave it at that. Three stars for Wednesday being open mic night(good talent) and for very friendly service.

This place is so over rated. I just don’t get it. Sure the pizzas and baked goods are pretty nice but, the other food is pretty bad, the service is rude and nonexistent. If you go get the pizza and stay away from the dried out sandwiches and under cooked hash dishes of soggy sweet potato. Everything is really greasy and gross overall, tastes of unwashed produce sauteed in a tub of margarine. They charge you top dollar and roll there eyes at you if you ask for a beer at the bar. If you like over paying for mediocre food and enjoy busing your own table when you spend about $ 60 bucks for two people then this dive is for you. note — have to agree with previous reviewers about the coffee being disgusting.

I love the hippy artsy ambience of this place. Perfect for someone who is ADD and gets bored easily with the Tibetan flags hanging from the ceiling, photos on the walls, decorative lights and wall hangings everywhere. The pizza is fantastic, probably some of the best I’ve had, however I decided to switch it up this time and try the ramen. It was ok. I have been spoiled from foodie type places in NY, LA and DC, so I wasn’t too impressed here. We tried two different ramen bowls, the shrimp and pork belly and the second one on the list which was some veggie type. The broth was the same in both and is very light and mildly flavored. I had to use some extra salt and seasoning to beef it up a little since I’m used to the rich and robust broths. I would come back for pizza any day which is why I’m giving the review 4 stars, but probably not for the ramen.

I’d really like to give this place a much higher rating but it seems that the food and the service are not that great. Perhaps if you sit at the bar you have a better chance of getting some service. We have been here several times on Wednesday night they have an open mic and some pretty interesting characters getting up singing and it’s quite interesting. They have a lot beers and ciders on tap and a fairly large selection of alcohol. As for the food they have a large menu but a lot of it comes out burnt undercooked overly salty or doesn’t come out at all because they forgot your order and that’s where the problems are at the Gypsy joint. We were there last night we ordered chicken wings which were burnt jalapeño poppers which are also burnt and overly salted however we had a gluten-free pizza that was excellent if we would’ve stop there we would’ve been quite happy. Last time we ordered the taco pie and it was very salty and not edible. I guess next time I’ll stick with a wrap or a sandwich. The place is unique so if you don’t go to eat you will love it there it’s a very hipster type of place — and a unique experience when in great Barrington.

Their oven baked burgers are huge and delicious with the siracha-homemade grape sauce. Comes with sides. I chose their kale salad. They make delicious peach strudels. It’s pretty much self serve but good food. Live entertainment at a certain time. Cinnamon buns could serve 6! Big eaters serves 4 or 2. Diet conscious? The cinnamon bun could serve 8. Made with brioche dough. Friendly staff!

If you’re a unique, fun-loving soul and in the Great Barrington area then jot the address down — commit it to memory — or tattoo it to your hand … this place is incredible. The décor is supah funky groovy, man: much like what I imagine the inside of a Woodstock-going brain to be, colorful fabrics, jewels, bells, birds, feathers, lights, etc hanging from the ceiling. Holy sandwiches, Batman… Some of these combinations will make your head spin. Of course I’m a strong believer that everyone needs a little bit of Chaos in their lives. By that I mean this incredible chibatta sandwich: zucchini, asparagus, mushroom, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, gruyère, mixed greens, tomato and teriyaki yogurt(9 $). This was fabulous and I wish that I could eat five back to back(but my flavometer was perfectly satisfied by the one). When I asked Jason to recall his order he said«Oh, you mean the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten, in my entire life?»(not a statement to be taken lightly). The masterpiece was concocted of pulled pork + watermelon + sprouts + veg… watching him eat it was a treat(at one point I thought his face might explode from over-excitement). The meal was so superb, we nearly forgot that we were on our way to Tanglewood! Vowing to return at the prospect of cinnamon buns the size of your face, we exited looking back over our shoulders and wondering why on EARTH there isn’t a sister location in North Attleboro. Highly recommended for young-spirited foodie flavor adventurers. Their drink list is nearly as exciting(best $ 5 heavy-hand beverage I’ve had the pleasure of being refreshed by).

I cannot speak for anything besides the atmosphere, coffee, and cinnamon roll. Atmosphere: very cool and«trendy» is the best way I can describe it. It was fun to be in there with so many things to look at. It’s hard to know what you’re supposed to do as soon as you walk in. Luckily, I checked this place out on Unilocal and saw people say that you bus your own table. Which is different but not necessarily in a bad way. They just don’t make it very clear. It also appeared that the young lady at the counter was not having a good day. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt(although she had a snooty attitude for reasons I don’t know). Coffee: it was my style. Not burnt-tasting which is always a plus. And I really love how they offer all natural no-calorie sweetener(truvia). I’ve never seen that in a restaurant before and have always been disappointed and I’m glad I have finally witnessed truvia in a public place(yes, very life changing). CINNAMONROLL: YES. Okay seriously this should be illegal to be this good. I give the cinnamon roll 5 stars. It was so moist and every bite was a different texture. And it was absolutely enormous. Seriously. I tried to have ¼ of it and couldn’t finish half of that. This is no exaggeration: it will last days when split between 2. I mean, I can’t complain about a dessert that can be had more than once. Although your waist will be scolding you, your belly will be happy and smiling and your head will buzz with sugar. So, if you’re on a diet, just don’t look at the cinnamon rolls out front. I did notice the menu has plenty of healthy salads and sandwiches but how does that compare with a cinnamon roll as big as your head??? Just go try for yourself.

It’s different here. You order at the cash register. You bus your own table. You get your own water out of a big cooler. The music playing in the background is vinyl — yes, vinyl. But, it ALL works. The food is delicious. We ordered macaroni & cheese, a chicken and cheese quesadilla and a pizza. It was all DELICIOUS. It really was. The folks running the place are polite and friendly. Top notch.

What a cool spot. Three of us shared a pizza(pictured) a Reuben sandwich, a quesadilla and some stuffed jalapeños. Food was delicious and flavorful. We had a few drinks which were excellent and potent. This place has some amazing character and a great live music line up, definitely a great place for some night time drinks and entertainment. It’s fun, causal, friendly and delicious. What more could you want?
