I like this Chinese restaurant, they are always quick and serve Americanized Chinese favorites. I usually order the lunch special, and stick to orange chicken and other staples like mongolian beef or eggplant in spicy garlic sauce. they are quick to turn tables, so as soon as you order they bring your water out food is probably on the table in about 5 minutes. this has concerned me in the past thinking it’s not enough time to cook the chicken through, but the food is always hot and usually tasty. I would give a higher rating, but they sometimes make the food a bit bland, needing a little soy sauce. this last visit the food was actually very good, we ordered pork potstickers and I have the orange chicken the food was great and I hope to come back and hopefully upgrade the rating.

Worst«Chinese» food I’ve ever had. Sesame Chicken with no sesame seeds and chicken was pink/undercooked. Broccoli old, yellowed and undercooked. The only thing that was ok was the rice. By the way, I barely use Unilocal, when I have it’s always been for positive reviews.

Food was tasteless. Beef didn’t like look or taste like beef at all. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

This is some of the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in my life! I am a very good cook and enjoy eating out. I’m surprised we didn’t get sick after eating ¼ of it and tossing the rest. We ordered 4 different dishes. All of the vegetables in the various dishes were identical, boiled in water or steamed and added to the dish at the very end. The chicken was pressed, pounded and swollen, also cooked and added at the end. Very little seasoning, lots of cornstarch and water to make a pasty sauce. The chow mein was plain swollen noodles with some soy sauce tossed in; horrible. The fried rice was left over white rice with a FEW frozen peas and corn tossed in, zero flavor. There were very little of any seasonings used. They are rushed, rude and pushy and must exist on their overprice $ 6.00 lunch specials. Save your money and go to DJ’s in Larkspur. It’s 100% better and they care about the quality of their food and repeat customers.

A terrific local joint. Best for takeout since the sit down experience is basic chair/table. If you want a dining experience, go to PF Changs megaplex and pay $$$.

This is one of my main«go-to» places for quick take out. The food is good, the prices are entirely reasonable(esp at lunch) and the folks there are friendly.

I usually always order to go and the food is pretty good. I’ve noticed the last couple times I go there is no soy sauce in the bag. So this last time I went when the lady(whom I beieve is the owner) brought me the bag I said is soy sauce in the bag and she said yes. I said I needed 3 packets of soy sauce(my food was for 3 people) she said it’s .50 cents more. For three packets I said she said no for one packet 50 cents each. NO bleeping way those packets are pennies come on. I gave her a dollar and she handed me three packets because why. There was no soy sauce in my bag like she said in the beginning. And I won’t even mention the potsticker sauce, gotta pay extra for that too. I’m extremely disappointed that this place has no integrity and is greedy. 50CENTSFOR A PACKETOFSOYSAUCE. I didn’t make a fuss and I felt stupid for paying it but I know one thing for sure. Hunan First will be the last choice from now on.

We have eaten here numerous times. The food is decent, best part is it’s convenient. There are two waitstaff, one older woman and a Middle aged woman. The Older woman is always pushy and impatient. We joke around about her demeanor as its been part the compromise to eat so close to home. The middle aged woman had always been nice and we are glad to see it’s her when we arrive. Until today… We ordered deep fried Prawns($ 7) as an app. What came to the table were 6 shrimp(no where even close to a prawn) and the batter was soft, not crisp. Worse yet they had no flavor other than that of seafood that’s gone bad. As well the shrimps end trails hadn’t been cleaned out… It was bad. We only tasted one and decided to send them back. Anyhow, we told the server and she asked what was wrong and we had to explain in detail the problem(shouldn’t require in-depth discussion). She was clearly irritated, picked up the plate and walked away. When the bill came she had left the«prawns» on the bill. When asked about it she was repeatedly argumentative AND rude. Said she can’t take it off the bill. We refused to pay for it and asked that the bill be adjusted. She went into the kitchen and after some time(yelling in the kitchen) returned w it corrected. Quite the ordeal. Needless to say we won’t be coming back. There have been other odd encounters that have been negative but I’m keeping this brief. No wonder it’s never ever busy in there. They know NOTHING at all about customer service.

The orange chicken was underwhelming but very affordable, the wonton soup was not savory at all it had 2 ½ small wontons and the bowl tasted like it still had cleaning solution in it I had to return it

The food was worth it’s price, but not the water. I personally judge a restaurant by their water and mine came with no ice at a lukewarm temperature. Not that it was disgusting, it just didn’t complement the good at all. What really made me decide to rate low at this restaurant was the staff’s lack of mannerism and customer service. There was more commanding than asking as I was just trying to figure out what to order, it being my first time there. She asked me 4 times in 5 minutes what I wanted to order and each time I asked if I could have some time to think. Just made me feel rushed and there were only 3 others in the restaurant. 2 stars to me seems like a critical rating, being that their food was good for it’s price, but I’d rather spend the money elsewhere.

This is a small business that I think is family run, and the complaints about service should be taken with a grain of salt. If you’re looking for someone to hold your hand and ask about your day, this is the wrong place. Some of the older ladies are abrupt to the point of rudeness, but they’re not trying to be mean. They’re trying to get your order and fast, and I appreciate that. I don’t have time to sit around waiting and I get my food in five minutes, so I am happy that the special snowflakes stop coming here. They are strict about the hours of the lunch special, but this is a business, not a charity. The rules don’t change because *your* lunch happens to be outside of their lunch hours. Gimme a break. The food is solid, except the fried rice — not great. None of it is gourmet, but it’s a hole in the wall Chinese food joint. You’re getting dinner in Marin for $ 7-$ 15. 3 stars for the food, an additional star for being fast and efficient and always getting my vegetarian order right! I’d add a half star for putting up with princesses if I could!

Loved this place! We were visiting San Francisco and as we drove through we got a craving for Chinese food. So glad we stopped here. Definitely just a regular Chinese take out, but it was delicious! I got sweet and sour chicken and my boyfriend got Hunan chicken. Food was hot and yummy. We also got the potstickers which were pretty good. It’s also in a very nice shopping center that you can walk around.

This place is not a bad a people make it out to be. The service is okay but if you are expecting a 5 star service, this is not the place but it’s a small restaurant for mainly to go orders so that’s no surprise. I came for a to go order and the food came out pretty fast! I had the lemon chicken, sweet and sour chicken and the chef’s special fried rice. All of the food was good and pretty much what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant in Marin.

I showed up around 6 pm and no one was in the restaurant. I ordered two items for take-out and sat on a chair. Then I told the waitress lady«could you please put those in separate bags?» Suddenly she sounded all mad. She kept saying I only bought two items. I thought she didn’t want to give me two paper bags. After an argument, I said«fine». Again, she said I only bought two items. I was thinking she is unhappy because I bought only two? What? Why? I told her that she is ruining the business with that kind of attitude. I asked her why are you angry at me. She insisted that she is not angry — whatever. Then she somehow figured out that I wanted two items in separate bags, not divide each item into two — total four. Is the problem English OR attitude? I concluded both.

Service is fast and the woman taking orders is very friendly — no complaints there. She even brought us glasses of water when we were waiting for our takeout, which I thought was nice. The lunch menu is inexpensive(around $ 7) for large portions. The food, though, leaves a bit to be desired. The broccoli with garlic sauce was good, but the beef chow fun was overly oily and didn’t have a lot of flavor or spice(and I didn’t like the beef itself). The rice was not bad. While I would get takeout again, I’d probably stick to the vegetarian options.

We had lunch here today. I had the shredded pork with zuchinni and my wife had the spicy bean curd with brown rice. Both dishes were very tasty, not greasy with a clean feel. The zuchinni was cooked perfectly and the sauce on the pork was very good. I had chow mein instead of rice and mixed everything together which made a very special chow mein. I have been here twice before and never had a bad meal.

Bad food — oily, lacking any real taste, and aggressive waitresses who were adament for a top. I wish I could have read the other reviews earlier and had better food after a touristy day in SFO.

This Chinese restaurant, if it wasn’t in Marin, would definitely receive just 1-star. The restaurant’s food is nothing special, if anything it’s overly oily and poorly made. The quality of the food is nothing special. I wonder if it’s because they’re in Marin where the population is predominantly white, but they don’t serve much in terms of authentic Chinese food. Most of what they offer is Americanized, and it tastes Americanized too. Still, if you’re craving Chinese food and want a place to sit down and eat, Hunan First is located conveniently within the Bön Air plaza and has plenty of parking and sufficient seating. Don’t expect to get good service from this place. The workers are often rude, impatient, and somewhat disparaging. They sometimes act as if they’re doing you a favor for having you come eat at the restaurant, and it can be a bit bothersome. If they improved their service, at least, they’d probably be more popular. I personally tip, but I have heard from a few friends in the past that they left no tip, only to find out that they were later charged tip by the restaurant(meaning the restaurant added in tip for them). As such, it may be safer to pay in cash to avoid this issue.

This place is «ok»…I actually was reluctant to go in here because of all the bad reviews but I decided to give it a shot. The service is great and I got my food faster than I thought I would considering it was lunch time. I put my own order together(eggplant and shrimp) and they were pretty accommodating except that I actually wanted to order tofu and she goes«its going to be verrrrrrrry expensive»…she literally exaggerated on the VERY. But seriously for tofu? You can buy that for $ 1 hahaha. My total including a diet coke was about $ 9…eh, you can’t really get any cheap things in or around this area. So the food… very flavorful but had A LOT of sauce. It was so saucy that I threw out the remaining eggplant. I’d probably come back here but may not regularly but it’ll do for some fast food chinese take out. Would I recommend it? Mehhhhh, maybe not.

I have to agree with Antony B. The people that gave this place bad reviews must not know chinese food. I thought this place was one of the best in the surrounding Sausalito area. I had apple chicken and schezuan shrimp. Both had a really good flavor and they came with plenty of sauce and veggies. Everything tasted fresh, even the mushrooms. Normally I get soggy veggies with chinese food. The fried rice was delicious. It wasnt over salted and was light and not over oily. YUMMERS!
