Just terrible… seriously. Every college town should have a decent pizza joint, but this is not that.

This place is by no means an «elite establisment» it reminds me of a dirty cafeteria at a Chicaco Public school, very bland. BUT This place hits the spot on those late study nights I always had the GCB and the Mac bites. Take it for what it is. A «Oooo I am hungry and the only thing open in this town at 2 am is Marvin’s» The locals and students will rant and rave about it, but you will see what I mean. Atmosphere? D Food? C Tradition? A Will I return? Of course so many drunken memories.

Best late night food in Greencastle! I got a GCB and it was good. Macbites are must.

Found this place on Unilocal close to home and thought we would give it a try. They didn’t disappoint. I got the ½ pound GCB(garlic cheeseburger) deluxe and the Franks garlic cheese fries. My wife got a ¼ GCB and breaded mushrooms. The burgers were good even tho the they didn’t have any condiments on them. The Franks fries were good too. Pro tip, eat them fast, they will get soggy. The breaded mushrooms were just ok. All in all great new place to eat and for sure added to our rotation. Both burgers, fries, mushrooms, and drinks all for less that $ 20. Can’t beat it. Next visit I will be trying the wet burrito.

Marvins: a cheap food hotspot for the depauw crowd. The atmosphere was original and fun, but the food definitely wasn’t. Our meals were cheap and quick but generic and lacking. Additionally, the restaurant was dirty. I wasn’t expecting much, and Marvin’s wasn’t a whole lot.

«Give me GCB’s or give me good breath.» Isn’t that how the saying goes? People have been telling me about Marvin’s GCB’s(garlic cheeseburgers) for years so I finally stopped in to try one. Be careful. When you order a garlic cheeseburger, they actually give you two garlic cheeseburgers — a great deal at $ 7.00! I also ordered Frank’s fries(cheese fries with garlic — $ 2.25). The GCB’s were great! They weren’t quite worth the hype, but they were still really good. The GCB’s are a big enough portion that you don’t need a side item. I don’t recommend Frank’s fries. The fries alone would have been good, but the cheese sauce was low quality and kind of gross. Garlic makes everything taste better, doesn’t it? Side note: During the week, Marvin’s is closed from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Great college fare to say the least. On the campus of DePauw in Greencastle INThe best garlic cheeseburger in the Midwest.

I really was not that impressed with this place. All of my Depauw alum friends had hyped this place so much and perhaps I went in with too high of expectations. Don’t get me wrong I see the appeal from a college students point of view. It’s a burger joint that is open till 2am in an otherwise conservative small town. I’m sure all that grease tastes amazing after a few adult beverages…

Cheap garlic cheeseburgers and cheese fries. Décor isn’t overly impressive(or impressive at all), but it’s a college hang-out, so the overall environment is perfectly acceptable. Clean? Eh… Nice, large parking lot. Fast service.

Marvin’s serves comfort food for college students. If you are a DePauw alum, you love Marvin’s. If not, you will wonder why anyone eats there. I visited at the suggestion of a DePauw alum who begged me to bring him back a GCB. That’s Garlic Cheeseburger in DePauw lingo. A GCB is two rather bland hamburger patties side by side on a garlic bread hoagie bun, with two slices of Kraft cheese just like Mom uses. And that’s it. It’s unremarkably different. My wife ordered a stromboli that was actually a GCB on a non garlic bun with mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce. The meat was a ground steak patty, not crumbled sausage like every other stromboli on the planet. We ordered onion rings, and they were actually quite good, nice and crunchy. The atmosphere at Marvin’s is a bit dive-y. I’ve been told that it used to be a real dive, then moved into a newer building, but it retains it’s dive-y-ness. The walls are plastered with photos of all the places around the world where they have delivered. I guess they will ship GCBs anywhere. I have to be perfectly honest. I doubt I will ever return here. But to Depauw alums who want to relive drunken late nights at Marvin’s — more power to you. College towns all over the country have some version of Marvin’s. Oh, and they also serve other sandwiches and pizza too.

Growing up in Greencastle, Marvin’s at least twice a month was a must. The GCB and cheese fries are always good whether you order there or have it delivered. The atmosphere is casual and it’s always entertaining looking through the hundreds of photos plastered on the walls. It’s just an all around great place to hang out with friends. Since relocating to the NE side of Indy, I have found myself craving this food more than anything else. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Greencastle doesn’t have much, but it is home to the best GCB I’ve ever had.

This was my first time at Marvin’s. I’m writing this review as a person who had never heard if a GCB. This has to be one of the worst hamburgers that I have had. All this GCB is a frozen hamburger patty with cheese on a garlic bun, no lettuce no pickle no onion nothing but a flavorless burger on a garlic bun. They say people have these GCB’s shipped all over the country, I find that hard to believe. Then there was the«famous» cheese fries, they were good but nothing special. I honestly would not walk across the street to eat here again.

It’s a cheap college dive that is popular because it is close to Depauw University. The food isn’t necessarily bad but you’ve had better. Good for the late night munchies.

I pride myself on giving completely unbiased reviews. This isn’t going to be one of them. I went to school at DePauw and therefore signed a contract that I’d always love Marvin’s in exchange for a tuition discount. Just kidding, there are no tuition discounts. Some people like the wet burrito, some rave about the pizza, but most just go for the GCB. For the uninitiated, that’s a Garlic Cheeseburger, and it’s amazing. My suggestion would be to pair your GCB with an order of Cheese Fries(ask for cheese on the side to maintain fry crunchiness), and a very cheap light beer. You shouldn’t come for the décor, although the«Marvin’s Delivers to…» pictures are awesome, definitely don’t come for the service, and if you’re a Wally, do everyone a favor and don’t come at all.

A Greencastle/Depauw institution. Garlic Cheeseburger(aka GCB). ‘Nuff said. It’s total greasy-spoon fare, but it’s become something magical here. Take 2 hamburger patties, fry them with cheese on top, and lay them side-by-side on a hoagie roll. Then cover it in garlic salt. Heaven. And it’s cheap. The décor isn’t anything to write home about, but be sure to walk around and check out all the pictures of students/ex-students from around the world with their«Marvin’s Delivers To(insert location here)» signs.

I’ve frequently written reviews about how nostalgia has failed me. Restaurants I loved as a kid frequently pack the punch they used to. Cereals that were phenomenal when I was 12 taste like absolute ass now. TV shows I couldn’t live without are now embarrassing to even consider. I took a detour to Greencastle, my old college town, in desperate hopes that at least one bit of nostalgia wouldn’t turn out to be unfounded. GCBs were my life when I was at DePauw(which is ironic considering they’ve likely taken at least a year off of the end of said life) but I’m a prepare for the worst, hope for the best kind of guy. I was steeled to find out that they actually sucked after all. Wrong. They were still brilliant. Eight years after my last indulgent bit of a greasy, salted, garlic covered sort of cheeseburger, I was beyond pleased to know they were still as transcendent as they’ve always been. And when I say transcendent I mean, here you have these seemingly low quality ingredients put together into something that tastes a thousand times better than it has any right to. The whole is far more than the sum of its parts. It’s a Gestalt psychologist’s dream. Add in some cheese fries, and yeah, it’s still the highest quality low quality food in the universe. I swore to myself, a long time ago, that I’d never set foot in Greencastle again, but the lure of Marvin’s was just too great. I’m glad it was worth the anguish of briefly reliving my college years. R.I.P. Marvin.

Marvin’s isn’t fancy and their burgers aren’t Kobe beef… but man, I do love the taste of a GCB. My husband and I live 30 min away, but because they are open late at night, we are able to drive over late on the weekends and chow down! If you’re expecting something gourmet, then it’s best for you to go elsewhere. It’s a classic college eatery, complete with photos all over the wall and a somewhat lackluster interior. But they’re open late, and they serve the perfect food for late night eating, especially post drinking. Their prices are reasonable and while their staff isn’t the friendliest bunch, they certainly aren’t rude and they do smile from time to time. ;) I’ve eaten there many many times and I will continue to do so.

Marvin’s famous GCB isn’t really a GCB at all, but a CB on GB. There’s nothing particularly garlicky(or good) about the burger itself, which has the look of plastic, the feel of cardboard, and the taste of sawdust. But the bread is tasty, interesting, and spiced appropriately for the occasion. I do, however, wish that the patty and the cheese had a little bit less of that ‘we-were-fresh-grilled…yesterday’ look and taste to them. Instead, the cheese, which had clearly been melted at one stage in its uninteresting life, was fully re-hardened onto a patty that was plastic, dry, gritty and gray. Look, I’ll be back here again. I just didn’t love it the way I wanted to and thought I would. So far, Marvin’s delivers great and friendly service and a fine place to enjoy the tradition and atmosphere of a distinguished college. But the GCB wasn’t nearly worth the hype. Oh yes, and the beer selection does to beer what Dan Quayle(DePauw ’69) did to spelling.
