The horchata was pleasantly surprising in how fresh and soothing it was on the palate. The tacos were authentic to how I expect Mexican tacos to be. The woman behind the counter was willing to make a vegetarian burrito for my wife who doesn’t eat meat even though it wasn’t on the menu. It took a little longer to get our food than I was expecting but that’s because it was all made fresh to order which I thought made the wait worthwhile. I speak Spanish fluently so ordering wasn’t an issue but I can see how language barrier might become frustrating to someone who doesn’t speak or read Spanish when trying to order here. Overall a nice stop for someone traveling on 101 with a craving for tacos.

A little meh… My friend and I stopped here on the way to LA I saw the 5 star rating here on Unilocal.I am fairly new to Unilocal over the last year so I made a rookie mistake and didn’t notice only TWO reviews here. We pull up and got that uneasy feeling. The building looks a little run down and was quiet. We walked inside through the little store entrance to the bakery. We hadnt realized we passed the restaurant entrance but we were directed through the kitchen and around by the clerk at the bakery counter. We saw about 6 small tables in a cozy little space. .steady customers were flowing in and out while we were there. I asked if they serve quesadillas because they weren’t in the menu and they said yes so I ordered a al pastor quesadilla. My friend ordered the chicharonnes plate. When our food came it looked decent. .I failed to snap pictures :-(. my quesadilla by all appearances looked appealing. I cut a section off and took a bite. well…I didn’t hate it but I can say there was way… too much cheese! It was overpowering! To the point where I only ate one section and decided I wasn’t that hungry after all. My girlfriend mentioned that her chicharonnes were flavorless, although the beans were very good. We noticed everyone around us either had tortas or menudo. Think maybe we shoulda went with the locals they seemed to enjoy their food! Oh well lesson learned and I at least experienced a new place on my food adventures! Cheers!

if u want a comfortable, at home experience then Martinez’s is the place to be! they got it all… carnitas, chicharron, home made tortillas, chorizo, grilled jalapenos and so much more. we were well taken care of and the owners did an excellent job at making us feel at home. **bonus** they got sweet bread!!!
