Visited this restaurant for the first time and must say the food and staff was amazing. The margaritas are cold and strong. I’ll definitely be back for the food as well as the eye candy staff!

I have been eating here for couple of years with pleasant result. The food is reliable and margaritas are imminently drinkable. At times the place is lively with youngsters as it sits in the middle of upper-middle-class suburbia and kids are part of the package. Dinner hours are busy and energetic so its not a great pace for a romantic interlude. It is a good place to take your Gramdma or parents, providing they can climb the stairs or walk from the curb a few doors down. Prices are great and lunch specials are truly that. Carnitas is a weakness of mine and one of their best executions. Most every Mexican standard you expect will be found on the menu and they’ll be served hot fresh and promptly. Service staff runs like a 68 Chevy.

We picked Monterey tonight for the quick service, the good food and decent margaritas. Our food was out just minutes after we put the order in. The chicken and shrimp plate was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The steak soft tacos were simplistic, but delicious. Nothing extraordinary about the margaritas, but they were very good and the special of the night was a great deal. All in all, Monterey’s is a great choice if you’re looking for quick, inexpensive Mexican food that is consistently dependable. I’ve yet to have a bad experience and the service is usually fairly good. Definitely a ‘go to’ for when you need that Mexican fix.

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Monterrey! It was a close drive over from the Greensboro Science Museum. The food is delicious and authentic. The staff are genuinely glad that you have joined them. Wish we were not an hour away! Hope to return!

Wow. We love Mexican food and were visiting family here in Greensboro for the first time. We started craving some good Mexican food, looked up some reviews on the internet and decided to try Monterey. We’re so happy we did! We were a little nervous about taking a one-year old and his four-year old brother but we had a wonderful experience. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted by several friendly employees who showed us to a comfortable, large booth immediately. They brought a booster seat for the baby which worked perfectly for him. So far, so good. Then they brought their thin crispy tortilla chips and some very flavorful salsa. The four-year old LOVED them and tried to eat the entire basket! We ordered a variety of things(some beef, some chicken) and everything was excellent. Both the boys loved the food, too, and ate ALOT.(Last time I share a meal with the one-year old, next time he orders his own meal). The staff was very friendly and helpful. One of them, and he wasn’t even our waiter, came up to our four-year old grandson and gave him a toy lizard. So all in all, we were very impressed with the food and the friendliness and the great service. We are definitely going to be going back soon.

Okay I found my favorite mexican spot in Greensboro! I’ve ordered take out from here a couple of times and finally decided to dine in. Long day at work so it was dinner and drinks with my girl! The food was amazing! I had the fajita quesadilla with rice and beans! Man… PERFECTION! The chips and salsa are to die for(don’t eat too many or you won’t be able to finish your meal)! And the margaritas are strong but not too sweet! We had both the top shelf and the regular… you can’t go wrong with either one. The waiters are nice, friendly, and good looking(that helps). They even let me practice my Spanish with them! Such a good time! We’ll be back!

Food is fine. Your usual Americanized Mexican fare. Priced appropriately. Service is atrocious. First time we went we had a waiter who would not speak to us. I always make sure to thank them for refilling drinks, bringing food, etc. Every time I said thank you it was blatantly ignored and he seemed generally pissed at the world and was all around rude. Whatever, still tipped well because the food was fine and the hostess was sweet. Came back for the second time tonight. The waiter was much more talkative but not anything spectacular. I waited forever for another drink. He didn’t bring it until we were completely done eating. Mind you this was a soda so I paid for it and would like to get my refills. Then he came back without our ticket even though we had asked for it and just picked up our card and started to walk away. My husband asked for the ticket first and he looked super pissed and slammed the card back down and walked off. When he came back with the ticket he said«I don’t overcharge people» and my husband said«I didn’t say you did but you don’t know our situation maybe we are seeing if we have enough cash or which card to use!» Then he had an attitude for the rest of the transaction. Will not waste our time or money here again as service is obviously a very low priority for them.

Can’t say much about this place that hasn’t already been said. Been coming here for about 5 years now. It’s busy every time. It’s easy to be a Mexican restaurant. It’s hard to stand out as a better Mexican restaurant. They do it with seemingly no effort.

Food is excellent but extremely inconvenient. They need to deliver or get with Grub Hub or Takeout Triad.

Stopped in for lunch again today and of course ordered the carnitas. They were better than last time, if that’s even possible. I am seriously ADDICTED to their carnitas. Service is fast and friendly.

This is my favorite Mexican place in all of Greensboro. We recently moved away and I’m going to miss it. We used to go a couple times a month at least. They have extremely good service which is something that has always stood out to me. You never have to wait for your drink to be refilled and everything is quick even when there are tons of people there. The food is awesome. My favorites are the enchiladas verdes and pollo fiesta but I’ve had just about everything on the menu and nothing disappointed. Their mole sauce on enchiladas is really delicious too. The prices are affordable. Honestly you can’t beat this place.

Stopped by Monterrey for a quick lunch. I’m more inclined to search for authentic Mexican food in small, off the beaten path taquerias with menus in Spanish that fly under the radar. But while Monterrey aims a bit for more Americanized tastes, I still found the flavors very good and the prices fantastic considering the healthy portions. The restaurant is large and nicely decorated, we were seated promptly, and received attention from the abundant wait staff throughout the meal. The hot chips and salsa were outstanding, and a good bit better than I’d expect to get at most Mexican restaurants. I had the pork and chicken enchiladas with beans($ 4.75) and my guest had the chicken burrito with beans and rice($ 5.25) We both found the housemade tortillas very flavorful(a must for authentic Mexican), and the fillings moist and flavorful, with the pork nicely seasoned. My guest ordered coffee, and raved that it was excellent. Monterrey’s seems to aim squarely at the expectations most Americans have for Mexican food, and succeeds well in that regard. I was very satisfied with my meal, and that’s not often the case at most standard Mexican restaurants around the country. My scores on the Mexican restaurant scale: Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Food: 4 Value: 5

One of our favorite place to get authentic Mexican food. I always get the chicken chimichanga and lately I have been getting the lunch portion because I feel the dinner one is just too much food but I’m sure if I was hungry enough I can finish it. The horchata is also delicious and not too sweet. Lastly we also like their salsa and the service here is just fantastic. You definitely can’t go wrong here it is cheap and delicious.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Greensboro. It’s in a less than desirable strip mall, so it doesn’t look like much from the outside. Inside, there’s a friendly staff and amazing food. The chips and salsa are great and usually make it to the table before you can blink. The queso is amazing and the chorizo and queso dip is even better. Our family favorites are the Quesadilla Grande with shrimp and the enchiladas with mole’ sauce. They are happy to bring a side of avocado for the toddler. I’ve been here dozens of times and never had bad food and never had a drink go unfilled. You will never go home disappointed.

This location is a bit of a drive for me from downtown Greensboro, but the salsa and margaritas are worth the trip. It’s located in a weird spot in strip shopping center, and the restaurant itself is rather long and narrow without a lot of natural light, but it does a decent job in terms of fast service, inexpensive meals, and lots of cheese. None of the food here is creative or unexpected, but it tastes good, and the portions are large.
