I’ve wanted to come to this restaurant for years. Now, I don’t see what the big deal is. The food was average at best. The rare tuna had to be sent back, as it was brown all the way through. The corvina selection was presented on tasteless squash purée with a few Brussel sprout leaves on each side. Not what i I expect for a $ 100 dinner. I can check it off my list. I won’t go back.

Food was perhaps a 4/5, but the service was a 1.5 or a 2⁄5. Our waitress did not seem overly familiar with the menu, nor was she very attentive. I sat with an empty drink for 20 minutes while waiting for food to arrive. Service was also quite slow, which would be ok with better service, but instead just ended up feeling like waiting a long time between courses/drinks. Also disappointing was the charcuterie plate, which was almost entirely cheese, but came with nothing to spread the cheeses on, so we ended up just eating cheese with forks, even the soft cheeses. We could not get the waitresses attention to get extra bread. All in all, the food was good but the service made our dinner disappointing. I expect a higher level of service from a restaurant at these prices.

Overpriced, underwhelming. This place has the audacity to charge 30-something dollars for lackluster entrees that are served missing components described on the menu. Ordered an old fashioned that was so sweet I thought my teeth were going to rot and fall out. Butter lettuce salad was served with multiple incorrect items. It was as though the person making the salad decided to haphazardly add whatever they wanted. I had the pleasure of watching my hanger steak and mussels entrée sit at the pass for 10 minutes before it was brought to the table. Mussels were cold, tough, and had the consistency of rubber. The menu described the entrée as coming with corn, but instead it was served with black beans and carrots that were raw. Clearly, there is no quality control in this kitchen. What a joke. Spoke with manager, who gave a gift certificate for a future visit. Experience was so poor I’m not sure if I would return to use it.

We’ve been coming to table 16 since 2008. Every time we’ve gone, we’ve done the dinner tasting menu. Our first few visits were exceptional: professional, trained staff, expertly crafted, unique dishes, and a knowledgable and efficient bar tender. It was our go-to luxury dinner spot. In fact, we celebrated several special occasions here. We took some time away, and then about 2 years ago we returned. We once again did the tasting menu. While edible, the dishes seemed to lack vibrancy and originality that we had grown accustomed to. And perhaps most disappointing was the service. We must have gone through at least 3 servers during our visit. This was certainly unusual and out of character. We walked away somewhat disappointed with our experience and felt that something had changed with the overall management of the restaurant. Well, tonight we returned nearly another 2 years later. We once again did the tasting menu. There were problems with the bar service which ended up taking 30 min to make 2 cocktails. They were fine but took entirely too long. Our server was young, seemingly inexperienced, but attentive to our table. The following dishes were good but not great. There was little from the tasting that was memorable, outside the lobster-corn bisque and the fresh oysters. There were other minor inconsistencies with the presentation of the dishes. While such griping would be superfluous and perhaps even obnoxious at most establishments, i think it entirely warranted for Table 16. Historically, they’ve earned a reputation as being one of the most innovative and exciting restaurants in the triad. But lately, this caliber of excellence has slipped. I simply don’t see the attentiveness to customers that was once common place, or the show-stopping composition and execution of cuisine. Something has definitely changed here. Table 16 is still a good place, but it doesn’t appear to be great anymore. I’m not sure we’ll be back.

Enjoyed a romantic night here with my wife. It is nice to linger at the table with a nice glass of wine while eating the charcuterie(meat and cheese) tray and then deciding on your entrée. Service was nice and the atmosphere was lovely. Ask the server for recommendations on what the best dish of the night is.

Visiting Greensboro for a week on business from San Francisco, this restaurant was such a highlight! It’s downtown location and intimate feel provide perspective into local life more so than the mainstream hotel restaurant experience. Our group did the four course tasting menu with every course being a delicious surprise. Great wine selection too! A restaurant not to miss when visiting the area.

This is by far probably the best resturant Greensboro has. The place is very cozy and the service was excellent. Our food came out in a timely manner and it was beyond amazing. My new favorite place to dine and I will be visiting here more often.

Returned to Table 16 for the craft beer dinner with Mother Earth — so excited that one of my favorite local restaurants was working together with a great NC brewery in a five course tasting. As usual for Table 16, the food and service were outstanding. The courses were sized just right and everything was prepared exceedingly well. The fried chicken liver worked nicely with the aromatic hops in the IPA, the hanger steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious with the dunkel. Everything related to the food and beer was perfect, as expected. However, for some reason, two photographers from Our State magazine were shooting the dinner. The same dinner we paid $ 50/person for. Set flashes were going off constantly, with the set right next to our table. The photographers would yell across our table, where we were trying to have a conversation and enjoy our dinner. Instead, they disrupted our conversation frequently and most of us left with headaches from all the flashing. Such a wonderful night was essentially ruined by this lack of consideration. If anybody from Table 16 reads this, please do not ever do that again, or my next visit will be my last.

Great burgers and Reuben sandwich! The drink special that night was the hot pants very refreshing for a summer night. Great side dish too, the fries, Brussels sprouts and soba noodle salad.

Quaint, sophisticated vibe. My friend and I had the«Dinner for Two» special which included a bottle of wine(red or white), small salad, entrée(beef, seafood or chicken) and petite dessert. It was fabulous! The seafood was scallops with black ramen noodles and the wagyu beef was prepared with a smoky taste on quinoa. I will be back. Probably tonight!

Possibly the best restaurant in Greensboro. The food is top notch — fresh, deliciously prepared, the food paring is well thought out, and the portions aren’t ginormous(which I appreciate in fine dining). The menu changes quite frequently, which is always a nice surprise. I have never been disappointed. The have great beer and wine tastings, also.

I decided to take my husband out for the pre fixe menu on Thursday nights for our anniversary this year. To start off, we had a miscommunication with our waiter and ended up doing the tasting menu. This was a very big difference in price. The pre fixe is $ 38 a person, where the tasting is by the course. However, our waiter was excellent and very attentive and I honestly think it was miscommunication and nothing more. The manager was quick to apologize for the confusion. He is also very attentive, checking on each of his tables throughout the night. The dinner itself was really good. We did seven courses overall, and by the end of the night I wanted someone to roll me out the door. Here is a breakdown of our dishes: Bread salad with green tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, scallions(?), prosciutto(?). The dressing was light and sweet and the best way I can describe it was a deconstructed club sandwich. It was excellent and a perfect way to start out our meal. Indian chicken wings with a coconut basmati rice– the coconut was just sweet enough. I would have liked some seasoning on the wings but overall the dish was quite yummy. I cleaned up all my sauce with the bread on the table. Scallop in miso with black ramen noodles– the scallop was good. In fact both were. My husband doesn’t like scallops so I ate his. The miso and noodles were good. What they weren’t was good together(the scallop in the miso that is). I had to eat the scallops, then go back and eat everything else. Some pork dish with goat cheese, pearl onion, and tomato gravy– the best dish of the night. I wanted to lick the bowl clean it was that good. My husband doesn’t like goat cheese and he ate every bit of it. I’m not a pork person but it was done beautifully and the crusted ends were so tasty! Mahi with goat cheese, crab, and a Parmesan fritter– good, not great. The mahi was cooked nicely and went well when mixed with the cheese and a bite of the fritter. The fritter was a little on the salty side. I like a little salty but my husband found it overly salty. Ahi tuna with corn relish– surprisingly my his and liked this dish. Surprisingly I hated this dish. The piece of dill on top was so overpowering I moved it to another plate. I then moved it to his plate across the table. I couldn’t stand the smell. Even taking it off the plate, it overpowered the fish and I couldn’t eat any of the meal. We ended up boxing my portion. I tried the corn relish but didn’t care for it either. Chocolate mousse with strawberries, homemade whipping cream and a homemade chocolate truffle. This was probably one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. It was so rich and delectable. I felt like the chubby kid from the movie Matilda at the end of eating the entire chocolate cake. I was so full and yet it was so good I couldn’t stop. I wanted to bathe myself in the chocolate mouse and yet it was so thick I’m pretty sure I would just sit on top of it. Of all recipes, I would love to have this one.

Overview: Table 16 is a small, high end, American style restaurant on S Elm in Greensboro’s downtown, conveniently located 50 feet from the $ 2 public parking(which is down the one-way W Lewis street.) The Establishment: While Table 16 is not decorated like the typical high-end restaurant, and has mismatched themes(there was a decorative Chinese cup on table, Ball glass jars as cups, and large French-style pastel art on the walls), I found the overall ambiance to be extremely pleasant. The chefs cook in a large aquarium of sorts, separated by their patrons only by a few millimeters of plexiglass. Everything is clean, but not the immaculate clean that you might find a more pretentious restaurant, and provides a good mix of the«at-home» and«at-restaurant» environment that makes you feel at ease. There are probably a little more than a dozen tables total with seating from 2 – 8, and the spacing is very nice. I personally prefer the table closest to the window facing S Elm as I prefer a very bright, non-moody environment, but in general I would say most of the tables are intelligently placed and each have their own perks. The Food: My wife and I ordered the Thursday chef’s sampler($ 38+ tax and tip as of April, 2015) and were more than satisfied. The overall style was lighter and healthier, almost Californian, with less reliance on heavy fats and more emphasis on tangy notes. Even the complimentary bread was very light and airy, nice and warm, and had a wonderful crust. I took a picture of each of the courses below which consisted of 1) a mixed green salad with finely sliced red onions, dried currants, dried cherries, and feta cheese, 2) smoked salmon with apricots, bulb onions, parsley, and bruschetta, 3) slow cooked tender lamb on a floor of butternut squash, and 4) a chocolate pudding with cream and berries. The mixed green salad was oh so flavorful, with a wonderfully balanced sour and sweet composition. It definitely whetted my apatite and was a great 1st course after the wonderful light bread. The smoked salmon was perfect, not overly salted like supermarket smoked salmon, and was perfectly paired with the onions and apricot. It was so wonderfully savory yet did not feel«heavy» or overwhelming in any way even though home-made smoked salmon and onions would be a recipe for salty and biting flavors. This dish is how I imagine a good lox to taste like. The lamb was easily one of the most tender and even cuts of lamb I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I did not see or taste a single globule of fat, suggesting the chefs trimmed it perfectly and generously. It was so evenly cooked that I suspect it had been sitting at 95 °F for a day. The root vegetable hash and butternut squash that it rested on only enhanced its savory flavor. One of the most interesting parts about the lamb was that it did not have the gamey smell or aftertaste that I typically associate with lamb. This may be a downside to some patrons but I was extremely impressed by the smoothness of the smell and flavor. The pudding dessert was extremely sweet and decadent, and would probably be best experienced with a small cup of espresso(which we unfortunately did not order). Nevertheless, it was a great end to a very beautiful four course meal. Expect to spend a minimum of $ 50 a person including tip for the tasting menu. No corking fees on Thursday as well. The Service: You will not be waited on by just one person but rather a small team of people with specific jobs. One to seat you, one to take your order, one to clean your table and to replace silverware, and one to refill your water. It unfortunately imparts the illusion that your waiter is not attentive, but in reality you are being checked on constantly. The complimentary bread is replaced very quickly after your group finishes it and you will always have fresh silverware if you so desire between courses. Conclusion: Table 16 is one of the most refreshing, high-end restaurants in Greensboro, serving elegant American(not«Southern») cuisine in a tastefully decorated environment. I do hope that the restaurant chooses not to increase its prices or change management, lest it wants to suffer the same fate as Fabian’s in Winston-Salem, BUT I do hope that the restaurant slowly shifts to a fixed tasting menu. I noticed that some Unilocal reviewers were unhappy when ordering the tasting menu as it cannot be timed perfectly with others who choose to order standard entrees, and I think the best way to rectify this problem would be to do away with everything BUT the tasting menu.

Have only been here for dinner, but the lunch options(sandwiches) look affordable and will definitely come back. Otherwise it’s well, a «when the parents are in town» kinda joint. I had the salmon and was able to switch out the«plating» with any of the other featured entrees, which was awesome! It was a lot more low key/casual than I thought it was gonna be — I guess I had heard it was so fancy, but it’s really very chill. The service was good, and our server was very knowledgeable. Sort of an indistinct, nothing special décor though, which was a bit disappointing. I guess they’re all about the food over aesthetics.

Came with high expectations and it was good, but not great Red pepper lemongrass soup is a home run!!! Sweet potato gnocchi is not worth the try. Gnocchi is hard as a rock and overdone, vs light and fluffy. Really not good. Skirt steak is nice and the grits are nice. Trigger fish is a nice dish, but a classic case of throwing just way too many flavors and ingredients at a fish. Could have been wonderful and in the end was only good. Really nice staff Cozy ambiance Nice cocktails and not your usual suspect wine list REALLY fair wine prices Thursday’s no corkage fee which is nice Very nice spot and I’d say give it a try but moderate your expectations as it isn’t 4.5 stars.

My party of four had dinner here for the first time this past Friday after work, and we were all very pleased with the restaurant and the food. This is a rather small, intimate space with a bar and a few tables on the main entry level, and then the actual dining area located on the lower level accessible by a short flight of stairs. My husband is a disabled vet, and he found the remote location of the parking and then the stairs leading down to the dining area a bit difficult to deal with, but once we were seated, he seemed happy enough with the rest of the experience. I was intrigued by the chef’s choice tasting menu, but the rest of my party was ordering off the menu, and I was informed my dishes would not arrive in synch with their orders, so I decided against the tasting menu… I might try this in the future. Our friends beat us to the restaurant and to our table, so when we arrived they had already ordered the«Spreads & Breads» appetizer, and this was a nice sampler of sausage, cheese, pickled vegetables, and breads. The overall presentation was quite pretty as well. One of the specials this night was a raw oyster sampler, and I cannot resist oysters, so I indulged in a half-order. I found the over-abundant, scattered toppings(which completely covered the oysters) to be distracting and unnecessary, but the oysters themselves we tasty and of a good size. I had the Lamb Loin(with pancetta ravioli, braised pea shoots, goat’s cheese & cherry bordelaise), my husband had the Berkshire Pork Loin(molasses laquer, sweet potato gnocchi, stewed prunes & a plum jus), and our two friends both had the Beef Tenderloin(parmesan tater tots, white asparagus & rosemary bordelaise). All the dishes were excellent, properly prepared, and beautifully presented. My husband’s dish was served on a flat piece of tile, which was okay, but it didn’t have a rim or a lip and he was a little worried the sauce was going to seep over the edge onto the table or his lap. We all shared the Apricot-White Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert. Yum! I will return to this restaurant. We had a lovely, relaxing dinner, in beautiful surroundings. It was a pleasant discovery. Thank you Unilocal

Definitely a must visit in Greensboro. The beef tenderloin with pancetta ravioli, broccoli I, and plum bordelaise is fantastic. Made my mouth water just reading the description. The manager, chaosbreaker I believe his name was, is fantastic. Go there and try all the food. You won’t regret it. It’s very well worth the money spent. Oh, and did I mention how adorable it is inside? Perfect for a date.

Ask for table 16 if you want the only table where you and your date can hold hands across the table(cue collective awwww). Came here on a food tour and absolutely loved the chocolate mousse dessert. Would love to come back for a full meal sometime. Loved the intimate setting and artwork, as well as the fact that all menu items are locally sourced.

If you have not gone to the four course $ 35 tasting that they have on Thursday nights you are doing yourself a disservice. Now only do you get amazing food for $ 35 you can bring your own bottle of wine and there is no corkage fee! How awesome is that? They have quite a few weekday specials and I think it is great that they are making the place more accessible to people who dropping a hundred dollars or two there on the weekends isn’t exactly in the budget. Our tasting consisted of a scallop with a vegetable rice thing(sorry I don’t know a better way to describe it), prosciutto wrapped halibut with their goat cheese creamed corn and a slice of heirloom tomato, mahi mahi with beans, nectarine, and avocado, and finally their ice box pie with fresh fruit. We added in an additional dish of steak with hollaindiase and sauteed spinach. It turned out to be more expensive than our server initially said it would be, but that thing is just so good. My favorite was the prosciutto wrapped halibut with the corn. It was one of the top five things I have ever eaten and well we all know I go out to eat a lot. The scallop and mahi mahi were cooked perfectly neither was dried out. The dessert was a perfect ending to the meal. Make a reservation for a Thursday, pack up your bottle of wine, and head on over to Table 16.
