We were in search of a quick, tasty, and fun Saturday brunch; Bar Frites did not disappoint. The bar tender was very knowledgable and entertaining, the food and drinks were on point, and the crowd was great too. Will definitely be returning… Highly recommend the short rib hash and a Bloody Mary!

First time at this place. Was seated at a table that could bare hold two bread plates. Noisy kids ran amok with their mothers ignoring them. Nothing was done to make them quiet down. A bad start. The bread was stale(a french staple), the salad was good but for $ 15 I would have expected double the portion. The fried calamari was excellent. For the main course the whole crispy bass was great but my wife’s scallops were served in a tasteless vinegar sauce. The mac and cheese side($ 15) had absolutely no taste. I could have done better at home. Service disappeared for a half an hour after dinner then was offered a desert menu which had to be declined due to time restraints.

Loud and crowded atmosphere. I could barley hear what my friend was saying across the table. And they tables are literally on top of each other. Way too close for comfort. The amount of times someone bumped into my chair walking by was annoying a lot! Luckly the Appetizers and desserts were so good! So good it’s enough to go back. For apps We got the grilled calamari and fish tacos! So fresh and tasty. And dessert was the crème brûlée and the strawberry Napoleone. I wish I had a picture it was pretty too!

No complaints here. Good food. Came for brunch. The sliders are good size. They are to like bite sizes. Liquor is legitimately strong. Had a Bloody Mary. Also fish tacos were on the spot.

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. It’s continuously packed here but I’m guessing it’s the only game in town. Food is decent but not great. Appetizers are good but pricey for what you get. My son ordered the French Dip sandwich and he wasn’t able to eat it because the meat was ice cold in the middle. I told the waiter this and his comment was«We strive for medium rare for the French Dip».(See the pictures). I showed him the extremely cold meat and he just showed us a blank stare like we had no class or understanding of what French Dip is supposed to look like. I have been to Bar Frite multiple times and ordered the French Dip and it was never like this. This was by far the worst experience. Would not recommend this restaurant.

If you’re looking for a cougar or sugar daddy then you’ve found your spot. If you’re looking for good French food keep driving. I ordered the Long Island duck, which is as close to a sure thing as you can get in my book, and was pretty underwhelmed. I don’t know if it was the lack of spice or if it was cooked to long(I’m no chef) but it just wasn’t that great. Ditto for my wife’s fish and the dessert. Classic French café décor — crowded and loud. I’ll keep searching for a French spot

Today is my birthday. My coworkers and I went to bar frites to originally celebrate for lunch. Everyone ordered and I ordered a cheeseburger well done. The food came out and my burger was still bloody inside. The waiter came over and told me it was well done regardless that I showed him the center was a bloody. He seemed to get very agitated and then a manager came over and asked me why I was unhappy with my burger. I am ordering the food and eating the food. If I want my meat cooked well done then I want it well done. I could not believe that I sat there for another 20 mins while everyone finished their food and by the time I came I hardly even ate at that point because I was so turned off to the service. We had every intention on ordering dessert and after this I just wanted to leave. Thank goodness a birthday dinner at another restaurant tonight because Bar Frites ruined my birthday lunch. We work in the area and next time I will think twice about returning.

Truffle pizza was excellent and so was the other food we got. I’m giving it 4 stars because the service wasn’t amazing. Had to wait awhile every time I needed water.

Very nice looking interior, friendly servers, and fair pricing for amount of food you receive. Had a business lunch with a client, sat in a quiet section of the restaurant and was able to conduct business. The steak sandwich was one of the best… Steak so tender and delicious mushroom and onions in the sandwich, making a great combination. A large order of frites come with the entrée, very tasty and crisp. Client had a chicken club that he stated was delicious. All artisan bread is used, making the contribution to these sandwiches so much better. Menu is varied and would be looking to come back for dinner. Just a note, also a very nice bar to sit at, where you can enjoy a drink and also enjoy your meal if you wish.

Bar Frites was one of those places where I just really wanted to love it and didn’t. This is one of the hot spots in Roslyn and I had been dying to try it. I finally had the chance to visit Bar Frites and I just really wasn’t blown away. I first ordered a cocktail that had Stoli Blueberry in it. I remember the drink being AWFUL. I should’ve sent it back, but I didn’t. If you know me, you know that Stoli Blueberry is my go to choice for vodka. Not sure what went wrong in this cocktail, but I wouldn’t recommend. For my meal I ordered the steak sandwich. I did happen to like the steak. I ended up ripping apart the sandwich and just eating the steak. It was cooked perfectly and i could tell it was great quality. I also happened to like the fries that my meal came with as well. Overall it was an OK experience, but I don’t think i’ll be running back here anytime soon. A bunch of the other Roslyn hot spots are more appealing to me. Although, I have heard they have decent brunch. Maybe that’s something I’d come back to try.

I have so much to say about Bar Frites I don’t even know where to start. I have been coming here since they first opened and try to come as often as I can. My favorite season to come here is obviously during the warm months because who doesn’t love to sit outside. That being said I absolutely love sitting inside to. The décor is perfect, if you call yourself a French bistro you have to look the part and they do! It is always packed no matter what day of the week or what time. The servers know how to handle the crowds too I have never felt rushed or forgotten about. Now to the food, the best part! The onion soup: AMAZING let me just say I have lived in Paris, and this French onion soups tastes like you are right in the heart of Paris. It is defiantly filling and heavy but all the best French onion soups are. The fish tacos: so so good one of my personal favorites they are so fresh and the spicy top is the perfect little kick. I have had so many of there salads it is hard to pick a favorite, you really won’t be disappointed with any. The Chinese chicken salad is enough for two! Their pizzas: their truffle one is to die for. Amazing, but all of them are really good. I’ve had a lot of their entrees as well so I won’t go into detail but if you like fish try the Halibut. It is so tender and delicious I promise you will love it!

Loud but dependable local spot to see and be seen. Both the wedge and frisée salads come with huge chunks of thick cut bacon. If you like bacon and someone else at the table gets one these salads you will be jealous. Both are highly recommended. Have had the sliders many times on the past; also a good bet, whether the burger, ribs or salmon. The fries(frites) are true to the name sake, you will have to eat them if they are on the table; especially the crispy ones. Finally the pizza, meatloaf and fried chicken can also be counted on. Will not knock your sock off, but always good… and did I mention loud!

I visited bar frites after my cousins boyfriend performed at CW Post. Atmosphere looked great. Service not so great. Let me start on a good note. Food was reasonable. I had the local duck that was cooked perfect to a medium. Tasty and variety of dark and light meat. I was happy with the quality. But how we get a 3 star review. With bad service. The service was awful. Young waiter could care less about us. Asked three of the eight of us if we needed a drink. Forgot about the rest of us and came back 10 minutes later to take our dinner order. Just awful service.

Group brunchin’ on a weekend here. The highlight? Bloody Mary! I actually enjoyed it and even had two. The tomato taste wasn’t overwhelming and had a great spicy kick. The downside was I caught a slight headache a few hours later. Most likely from the bottom shelf vodka they used. I ordered a ham and cheese crêpe while the boss got the pan roast organic chicken. The table also shared two orders of escargot. No complains about the food, it was as expected. The space is quite big and there’s seating outdoors. Kid friendly. Not a bad option for a non-cooking night if around the area.

Came here on a Sunday for lunch. Their food was pretty good but their service was soooooo s… l…o…w… It wasn’t overly crowded so they should have been more attentive. We asked a few people including our own waiter for cheese for pasta and it took 10 minutes after our food came!

I wish I could give this place an even more poor of a review. Manager was very rude to me and my party. Food was mediocre and our server was excellent. I wish I had a time machine so I can go back and not go here.

I’ve known of this place for years and years but never tried it until my 25th birthday. Overall, it was exactly how I expected it would be: high-end crowd, good food, but nothing extraordinary. I wanted more of a «scene» rather than«foodie» experience, so I’m glad this was my dinner pick. The appetizers were just okay, nothing great. My family shared the grilled calamari and beef carpaccio. They were rather plain in my opinion. The entrée assortment around the table included the pappardelle bologenese, fish and frites, caramelized sea scallops, and braised short ribs. The fish and frites were good, super hot, and super fried. The pappardelle bolognese pasta was fresh and tasty and the sauce was very meaty which was nice. Scallops were okay, I was more of a fan of the mushrooms that came with it and thought the sauce could be a bit creamier. The weakest entrée was the short rib, which was a little bland in my opinion. For dessert we all shared the gâteau fondant au chocolat(molten chocolate cake) and the strawberry napoleon. The cake was good and of course, who doesn’t love melted chocolate inside chocolate cake?! The strawberry napoleon was sad, but I’m Russian so my napoleon standards were high. It was basically a stack of crackers, strawberries, and whipped cream. MEH. I really don’t like how much I’m bashing Bar Frites in this review, IT’S NOT A BADPLACEAND I WILLGOBACK, but my internal foodie/chef is overly critical at times. However, my ONE pet peeve was that we told the waitress at least four times that it was my birthday, and I didn’t get a single candle. Anywho, I am going to reiterate again as I conclude this review, that I actually did enjoy my birthday dinner experience here.

I still have only good things to say… Outside under the awning — Friday lunch and I feel like I’m at a party. There is a festive atmosphere as I look around the restaurant. The place is packed. There are young families with babies in strollers, older couples, people having business lunches… I order a lunch special. $ 25 gets me a bowl of French onion soup(the best), hanger steak with fries, and dessert. My server is top drawer and everything comes up perfectly. I am very happy. Can you find better value in this area of Long Island — I don’t think so. 5 stars last month and 5 stars again — they do lunch really well.

With the exception of one dish, I had some good food here. Our server was friendly and I like the vibe of the place. Here’s the eats rundown: Apple pear salad($ 13.50, mixed greens, d’anjou pear, granny smith apple, truffle pecorino, walnuts, pear vinaigrette) Beet salad($ 14.50, red and gold beets, asparagus, haricot verts, baby arugula, candied walnuts, avocado, boucheron cheese, cabernet vinaigrette) Vegetable Nouille($ 15.50, tagliatelle, tomatoes, mushroom, asparagus, garlic), Verdict: The salads… were salads. There was nothing wrong with them per se, but nothing that stood out either. The pasta though… yikes. I’ve never tasted anything so bland. It should be renamed, «wet noodles with soft vegetables». Yes, I know the name of this dish is simple(vegetable and noodles), but it should still have some resemblance flavor and the veggies should come off as fresh, not as mush. Other items I tasted that were much better than the above were the frog legs, mac n cheese and mussels in a thai coconut sauce. And UGH, I hate doing this, but the prices stink. Everything is in the same range… $ 13 – 19 for apps, salads, pastas, sandwiches, sliders… $ 11 onion soup? Come on, man. $ 14 Greek salad with no meat. Why is an order of fried calamari the same price as a chicken club with fries?($ 15). $ 5.50 for half of a grapefruit… You get the idea. It’s not like you’re getting anything great for the prices. There’s no view, it’s in a strip mall. It’s lined with subway tile, not fine art. If someone asked what I had for lunch and I told them it was two salads, I think they would be shocked to find out the bill was over $ 30. But, again, if you don’t mind dropping the loot, disregard this whole paragraph. –1 star for the dish that should never be served again and another notch down for the prices. $ 43 for two salads and a simple pasta BEFORE tax, tip, drinks… is crazy. I would come here again with a group and share some apps and a cocktail for sure, but traditional ordering just doesn’t do it for me here.
