Great food and service! The sauerkraut balls with curried ketchup and soft pretzels were great starters followed by one of the best pork shanks with spätzle and red cabbage that I’ve had in a long time. Awesome German draft beers and an atmosphere that we enjoyed from the the German top 40 music to the staff that dealt with my 2 year old nephew.

German style restaurant with beer garden outside of Greenville SC. Menu is leaning more towards Bavarian kitchen with Spätzle and Blaukraut. Food is ok and authentic. Service is friendly and quick. A true German spot in the middle of South Carolina.

We have a delightful time every time we go here. The building has a rich heritage that generates a very unique ambiance. It’s great that the owners were able to save and restore it so nicely. I almost feel like I’m sitting at a biergarten in Bavaria! The food is also fabulous with a number of dishes you rarely find stateside. Prices are reasonable. My only wish is tat they had more draft beer options, but they have a lot of bottled options, so it’s no big deal. Bottom line: you won’t regret going here!

A nice and inviting restaurant, with a inviting staff the atmosphere was Bavarian in American way with know original message. The beer was good with a hint of I want to be original but know one cares. The appetizer was very good, and over shadowed our meal but it was appealing. Eating at other German eateries it’s average, but the best in Greenville, for some original Bavarian food try Helen Ga. You will have your pick of outstanding and satisfying dishs.

Stopped here on a Saturday night around 9:30pm, me and wife decided to sit on the patio. we allready knew what we wanted since we been here four other times. well we sat there for ten to fifteen minutes no waitress ever even seemed interested in getting us a drink or food so we decided to move on the other side of the patio in hopes to score some service. Nope waited another five waitresses kept ignoring us. wow…so I finally went to the bar inside and got our drinks. Shoulda just stayed home. sorry won’t be back or recommend it.

Very good! Visiting the area from Charlotte, decided to give this place a try. The atmosphere is very nice, staff was very attentive and prompt. Food came out very fast. Our food was great and everything was delicious. Very pleased.

I’ve never had German food before so I can’t comment on the authenticity, but the food was OK. My potatoes were burnt but other than that not bad. I don’t think the price is good for how little food they give you. The parking was terrible, the lot is very cramped and there’s almost no room to maneuver when backing out or even when driving around looking for a spot. The service was terrible. We were seated at a dirty table and then someone came out with a rag and wiped crumbs all over us. The waitress took our drink orders and took forever to get our drinks to us, then took our order and I didn’t see her again for the rest of the time I was there. Someone else dropped off our food and didn’t leave any silverware. I had to ask two different people and wait about 10 minutes for silverware. No one ever refilled our drinks and I had to ask a random passing waitress for our bill. I definitely wouldn’t come here again just based on the awful service.

I was a bit apprehensive about our visit here based on the somewhat negative reviews. Both my parents are German and I lived there for 3 years so I’m familiar with authentic German cuisine. I was not disappointed with Hans and Franz. You must keep in mind this is a German Biergarten — a casual place to gather with friends to relax and enjoy hearty food with cold beer. We stopped in with a group of about 15 for a business function. I will say that getting into the parking lot was a bit confusing as you must pass the restaurant and the parking lot exit to get to the entrance. The area is not well lighted so spotting the entrance is tough if it’s dark and you are not familiar with the area. Judging by the number of cars entering the lot through the exit, I will say I was not the only one confused. We entered the restaurant through a lovely covered patio. This would be a great place to celebrate an Oktoberfest or just enjoy a meal and a beer on a warm night or afternoon. The restaurant itself reminded me of the German gasthauses I frequented when I lived there. Traditional German decorations, brick walls, and lots of closely spaced wooden tables promoting gumutlichkeit amongst the guests. Very comfortable atmosphere. Nicely decorated for Christmas as well. We started with the pretzels — soft, salty, hot, buttery pretzels served with German mustard. They tasted great, especially paired with my Belgian beer. For an entrée, I chose the pork shank, which our server explained was one of their specialties. For sides, I chose bratkartoffeln and cucumber salad. The pork shank was huge — delicious, tender, moist pork served on the bone with a hearty gravy. The bratkartoffeln were crispy and well seasoned and the cucumber salad tasted just like mom’s. I was very pleased with my meal and others in our party were equally pleased. Sauerbraten was another big hit that night. The beer list, while not huge, had a nice selection of international offerings. All in all, I enjoyed my visit here very much. I would stop in again and I just may have the chance since my business seems to send me to Greenville fairly frequently.

So, very small place. take extra high blood pressure pills because the sodium content in all the food is ridiculous, However they do have a good choice of German beer if that’s what your looking for a bar to hang out in then this is the place to be if you’re looking for a good dinner forget it. Also very high price for what you get very small portions. There were four of us and we ordered an appetizer of sauerkraut balls which sounded delicious but it came with only three pieces you would’ve thought may be the waiter would’ve said something but he did not. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Love this place! We’ve been here a few times– their outdoor seating is the perfect setting for a cold German beer! Not to mention their food is pretty good

I love German food and seek out authentic German restaurants so please don’t lecture me about being a pretentious American with American tastes that don’t understand ethnic German cuisine. This is a great place to hang out with friends but if you want quality authentic German food you need to look elsewhere. The beer is served chilled but not cold, warmer than American style but colder than expected for ‘authentic’ German beer, it is in the middle as far as temperature goes and should be one or the other. Service was slow and that is being gracious, the male bartender has a great warm welcome which was followed by the cold shoulder and ignoring us. My suggestion… ok for a beer if you are willing to wait and put up with a bartender with attitude. good for watching soccer but if you want German food go elsewhere.

Parking –1 Service –1 Food — Meh Beer — Not bad All in all this place seems like a cool spot to come and hang out with your friends and grab a beer. Cool atmosphere and you can get a drink quickly by going to the bar. Once the server started waiting on us things were OK but that took nearly 20 min. A little bummed because I had high hopes for this place!

Really disgusted, sent chicken back and chef comes out and yells at our table. Very unprofessional, water was leaking from ceiling on my head Chef told us we will not get our money back, he even are some off our plates and said there is nothing wrong with it. Omg really

This is a European Beer Garden. This is a GREAT place to go and relax and enjoy conversation and beer. If you are a pretentious type go somewhere else. The recipes are authentic and well made but they ARENOTAMERICAN food so expect the flavor profiles to be different but good. It will be crowed so expect service issues like anywhere else. I really like this place for a great change of pace.

They have the«German» look down but the food isn’t anything to write home about. Beer list is nice but that’s it.

As a huge fan of Addy’s, I expected to also become a quick fan of Hans and Franz. But to my surprise, that didn’t happen. I love the atmosphere… brick walls, low lights, a bit of kitsch… as well as a lovely patio area. Unfortunately, that was balanced by oddly small portions of food, some of which were ok tasting, others less so. Nothing was great(and the Jaeger Schnitzel, although supposedly the same as Addy’s, was not nearly as good). And our waitress was so grumpy and unenthusiastic that she actually made us feel uncomfortable asking her for anything. If you live or work near here, Hans and Franz is a comfortable and unique place for an after work beer(or weekend game-day, as they have sports on large screen tv’s). As a restaurant, it’s not worth the trip.
